Just came back from a weeks stay at the Alykanas Village (June 2nd-June 9th). I have to say it was a fantastic weeks holiday for my family and I. For families with young children I would recommend this hotel very highly indeed. For kids it has everything they wanted from a holiday, 1 huge pool, 1 smaller pool for the little ones, one where kids/adults can play pool volleyball, and one right next to the beach, which is deeper than the others. There is also a tidy sized kids play area. The reps worked tirlessly to keep them occupied throughout the day (through the 3 kids clubs), and special mention must be given to "Boogie Baz", "Clairy Fairy" and "Amazing Amanda", and of course Thomson the Dog!!!. To me it says a lot that both the kids club reps and the kids were crying when there were the departures yesterday.
The location for the hotel is perfect too, it is right on the beach, with stunning views out to Kefalonia. The beach too is very safe for kids, shelves very gradually over a long distance. There is also a tidy snack bar on site, in my opinion quite reasonably priced, and serves everything to keep the little ones happy.
Rooms were tidied every day, and for the week that we stayed, towels were changed 3 times. In fact the whole holiday complex was kept spotlessly clean.
The complex also has its own mini market, again prices compared quite reasonably with supermarkets in Alykanas.
One thing I will say is that for excursions within Zakynthos, such as the Water Village, Turtle Spotting and the Shipwreck tour etc, is that you can get a better deal with travel operators in the town, they are half the price of the ones provided by Thomson, with no decrease in quality. The one I would recommend, is quite close to the complex (as you come out of the Alykanas Village walk down towards where the horse & carts are, turn right, and they are just by the Hotel Letsos. It is run by 2 British women (they also hire out quads and mopeds). They have just set up their company, and I can honestly say, they really looked after you. They have a web site called www.specialoffer.gr . I can only speak as I find, and they are well worth a try.
My only regret about the holiday was that we did not book 2 weeks.
Alykanas is very much a family orientated resort. Its only 45 mins from the airport, which is quite welcoming after a 3 plus hour plane ride with 2 young children. Did not use the town that much as pretty much everything we wanted was within the Alykanas V...

Just having got back from the Alykanas village for 2 weeks June 2nd - 16th. We took our 5 year old daughter and we all loved it there. Its a fantastic location, just on the beach. Perfect beach really warm and shallow. The 3 swimming pools were great, clean and safe. Accommodation was good for self catering in greece. Apart from the dodgy mastic around the bath. The Thomson reps were really great, they made that hotel amd of course Thomson the dog!!. The staff on reception were not very friendly, the maids were really nice. We hired a car and went to see the blue caves, shipwreck etc. Would definately recomment seeing the shipwreck. Out and about in Alykanas is perfect for familes with young children. Most tavernas and bars have play areas. Which we found that once you found one play area the children automatically want to go back to those tavernas for that reason. Our little girl met lots of friends. We would recommend the Matelena for really great greek food, the cosy corner for english if you fancy a change. Shortie there does great homemade burgers. The best bar by far is the dilemma bar. Sakis and Keith were really welcoming and Sakis kept everyone entertained with music, Nintendo Wii nights and great cocktails!! We went to the famous Lemon Tree by horse and carriage, that part was good. Unfortunately the lemon tree let us down. We never got one smile from the staff, quite rude actually. The food was boring with small portions. The only good thing was the play area and the taxi out of there!! Would highly recommend this holiday to families with small children. There is so much to do to keep them occupied and tire them out. The only downside to the holiday was because you are self catering you have to pay for all your food drinks etc. we found that by eating out 3 times a day, drinks snacks, trips etc what you normally do on holiday was very expensive this year. Mainly down to the euro. But 8.50 euros for 3 calippos at the alykanas village snack bar is nothing short of a rip off!! we never ate there but always noticed the plates were left mostly full and peoples faces were disapointed too. Leaving on a better note, you must got there because Zante is such a beautiful island and I wish i was there right now.
excellent

just got back today 13th june 2 adults and a 2 year old. fantastic place, quite small village, small beaches and great warm shallow coast. rooms are not out of this world but you dont expect them to be on a family holiday and this resort is very much for families. Rooms are comfortable (read a few other reviews from fusy people) you dont go away to stay in your room. Especially when your right on the beach and have a choice of a quite pool or entertainment pools where the reps really do keep the children entertained. If your looking for a quiet, relaxed family holiday where the kids are kept busy and dont get bored then this is a must. they also have a creche (we did not use this facillity) but did here from others that their kids really enjoyed it and the adults enjoyed the break.most restaurants have small play areas for children, (try lemon tree garden) 5 euros on the horse and cart and free taxi back great play area and boucing castle. also dionisis fab special 3 course menu only 9 euros (village chicken is a must)going for 2 weeks next year one small tip do not book your exursions through the reps(very expensive) 30 euros for adult to the water park. Come out the complex and head to the resort (left) about 5 minutes walk you will see a small exursion place next to car rentals only 18 euros and under 4s free. going 4 2 weeks next year
great

this was our first time to greece on our arrival to the Alykanas village the first impressions were very good, yes as people have said yes there are steps but you get them everywhere but this did not cause a problem,7 of us traveled in our party which where 5 adutls and 2 children the reps asked to join in without being too pushie but it whats you want to do it's your holiday, cannot fault the Alykanas village we had problems with the toilet system in our block but was sorted out within 5 mins so you cannot complian at that, they are always some Thomson reps around so if you have a problem its sorted for you.I would like to inform you that the drinks are a lot more in the complex so if you want a lager, pop, crisps, ice cream then go to the shop which is just out side the reception which is about a 2 min walk it is on the left hand side where lager is 1.50 a bottle bud is 1.70 also the pool situation is that you have to be up early get your towels on before some people were down at 6am putting them on but if you want the beech you just go past the pools then down the steps if you go to the left hand side of the hotel you will find sunbeds for 5 euros that 2 plus table and parasal the person from the bar come down and collect your money from you jetski are great to go on 35 euros for 20min but if you ask you might get 30mins,In Alykanas it self there are plently of places to eat everyone comes out to great you and asks you to try people will recommend where to eat if you ask in the hotel if you try the Zeus bar great and the best Cocktails don't be fooled about any other bar offering cocktails for 2.50 this one is the best also another bar to go in is the jam-in bar what a night we all had in there the shots were go down very well along with the beers, malibu, and kids pop this is a great place for an holiday we all enjoyed that much and we are all planning a return next year. Also the last thing you cannot flush toilet roll down the toilet so take nappy bags with you bins are provided
