We had a fabulous weeks holiday at this small, idyllic beach. I can't call it a resort as Gerakas is really just a beach with a few taverans and a small supermarket but this is the beauty of the place. Ionian Eco Village is a group of villas a few hundred yards from the beach. In a rural location amongst the olive groves and farm land, chickens, goats and donkeys are your neighbours.
However I expected to be in the middle of nowhere but there were three great tavernas within 2 minutes walk and many others about a mile away.
The beach is sandy, totally clean and completely unspoilt.
This resort is a must for families or couples looking for a relaxing time, getting a little closer to nature but with good food and wine at very close hand! The owner of the company is championing the local ecology, and economy, hoping that they can work hand in hand without bowing to the temptations of big business.

dinners. Gina and her 2 boys were wonderful hosts. Our second choice was Castaways a roof top taverna off the main high street Argasi.Opposite the magic mushroom. They do fajitas to die for.
Our favorite beach was Plaka Beach near Vasilikos. We hired a car to get there.Spiros will welcome you.It has a sandy beach The sea has a sand bottom and is very shallow.Sunbeds, taverna, beach bar, clean toilets. Best of all brilliant chillout music.

Hi...
I have wondered for a while whether to write this review or not. Do i really want people finding their way to my paradise?
Ionian Eco villages are a group of propertys set in olive groves on the most southen tip of Zakynthos.
We stayed in the Yannis-Marina studios. They were set completly on there own. THE LAST BUILDING ON THE ISLAND :) There are 3 rooms (walls are a litle thin). Our room was fairly small containing a double bed and a single, a kitchen area, bathroom with shower and a patio area with table and chairs.... but forget all that, its all about location. You can leave your front door and throw a stone at the sea, its that close. dont let me mislead you, its not on the beach... more of a cliff face. But you can make your way down via a fairly hidden path (just walk to the edge and you will see it on the left) to a small cove with a pebbly beach. very nice :)
But if your the kinda person that wants the beach to yourself ask Yannis to give you the location of the secret cove. (I cannot reveal its location on such a public site... i have been sworn to secracy by Yannis) Its AMAZING. Great snorkling. I never got round to it.. too busy relaxing .. but next time i will :) Its great here too if your a little off season, because when the wind gets up on Gerakas beach you can just up and go to the other side of the island..
There's Yannis's bar and resturant (good food good prices) and 2 other tavernas, a small mini market with pretty much everthing you needed from ciggys to cucumbers , sunglasses to sandwichs. And thats it.
If you want a holiday with bars and clubs and banging nightlife.... this is NOT for you ... goto Laganas.. if you want to relax and i mean really relax... then this is the place for you.
You will need to hire a car if you want to go anywhere else .. the roads are lethal btw.. so slow slow slow..
If you wanna eat well .. go find lily's place in Vasilikos. Its called O'Gallos.
Great food cooked by Lily (a french woman)... served with a smile ... and accompanied by a guy playing the lute. singing some greek folk songs .. a great night out!
All in all its the best holiday i have been on EVER. and i go 2-4 times a year.
In fact its the only place i will ever visit again and again... My little paradise :)
Thanks for reading this. It took a while because i managed to delete the first draft i did :) oh well .. enjoy ..

this hotel is full of lanagaus cast off it is full of 18-30. so you constantly woken at 3,4 am with screaming and laughter, there is only one main pub in agosis called the wild roses it is ok if you like karoke but only on tuedsay and saturday there is nothing going on any other days so you have to venture into lanagas even the locals are fed up of the 18-30
There is only bar on the main strip catering for kid it is called the britsih bar you will always find a good and frendly welcome there, the owner as ps and a x box for the kids.and the so called family steet that your rep direct you to is rubbish the only good thing was tramplines and golf which is very expensive. If you are party of six dont let them put you in room a2 there is a pipe running along the top and it leaks pure sewage on to your head has i found out at 7am in the morning oh by the way the repair man only speaks greek, german, spanish not english has he sort of told us on the second time of this pipe leaking and has for the rep she does alot of airport duties so be ready for a long await its was two weeks before i finally got she was at the airport on my way home.
but on the plus side we found a great bar/restraunt it is on the beach it is the second one along and there a little man who will chase up the beach but the food is great.and i would recommed the turtle boat trip and also the trip company just up the road from this hotel are cheap and very good i did four trips with them and very one was good and half the cost of thomas cook.
the water park is not to missed either if you have kids but make sure to take plenty of money it quite expensive once you get in side .

This place was a dream. Went for three weeks and wished it was far longer.
The Bouganvillea was a delightful family run hotel... clean, well appointed and beautifully kept... although we booked accomodation only and had a one bedroomed appartment. It is run by Yannis and his English wife Linda who are truly wonderful hosts. Simply nothing was too much trouble for them and they did everything they could to make our stay as memorable as possible.
It is an ideal hotel for families, with an abundance of other children for their kids to meet and make friends with. Furthermore the hotel is well laid out and safe for the children to play around with a fantastic pool and a small children's play area. And if the children are happy then life is so much easier for the parents too!
If you are not allergic to children then there is no reason for couples to be put off either as the friendly and intimate nature of the Hotel makes it equally relaxing and accomodating. We met many couples who thoroughly enjoyed their time there.
Food at teh Bouganvillea is exceptional and we ate there most evenings by choice. It is reasonably priced and always of the highest quality. It also helps not having to stagger far to get home afterwards!
Zakynthos is small and relatively unspoilt... with the exception of Laganas where all the noisier nighlife is confined. Laganas is worth a visit, good for souvenir/present buying and a great place if you want to party. It is only 20 mins walk along the beach from the Bouganvillea or an 8 euro taxi ride home. Do not visit before 9 in the morning as they may well still be hosing the vomit off of the pavements!
The rest of the island can be seen on a variety of organised trips, or as we did by hiring a car for a few days and trying to follow a map! The car cost 80 euros for three days and was great value. The water park is a great day out for the kids and hiring a motor boat for half a day is fantastic fun.
The beach at Aghios Sostis is only 5 mins walk from the Bouganvillea and is deceptively accomodating. Only one sunbed deep in places it has the cleanest most gently shelving waters I have seen... ideal for even young children and great for snorkelling or games. The resort is quiet and comprises a few hotels, shops and tavernas.
I can not understand some of the negative comments about the Bouganvillea as they do not fit in any way with the experience that my family enjoyed. This was quite simply the best holiday we have had as a family anywhere in the world. I think the sheer number of guests we met who were enjoying second, third and in one case their seventh visit to the Bouganvillea speaks volumes about what a joy this place is.
We have already booked for next Whitsun without a moments hesitation...

We booked our holiday last minute and were a little apprehensive as to where we were going..as it was we were first off the coach at a 20 minute drive.WELL WHERE DO WE START........
To our joy the George and Dawn Hotel was beautiful, a lovely turquoise colour and it was spotlessly clean and new.
We were greeted personally by our hostess Dawn, who is married to George, she was marvelous, we had a choice of rooms we chose an end one with two balconies!!!! spoiled or what? even though we were 3 hours late to arrive, all rooms have mossie nets over the patio doors so you can sleep in the cool in the night without getting bitten.
Bottled water was available to buy at a competitive price from Dawn at reception as were phone cards, fans and safety deposit boxes were extra; but they only have two maids and nothing was touched at all whilst we were there, Sophia one of the maids/cleaners is lovely even though she speaks no English, she was very friendly.
This Hotel is about 10 mins stroll along a flat road to the beach front, but the Hotel serves fantastic food especially Dawn's English Breakfast and was very good value for money, all the food was nice and it was never too much trouble for Dawn to cook you something.
The pool is beautiful also and a lovely shade of blue, and they both George and Dawn keep the place spotless, you can sit by the pool and have breakfast in the morning from 8 am....Dawn will make whatever you fancyto eat all day after that.
The room was excellent it was self catering and had everything we needed including a new fridge, we had a new shower with a cubicle i might add, which is unusual in Greece in the bathroom. All rooms had balconies which all overlook the pool.
The guests were a mixture of Dutch and English but there was never any noise at night and as the Hotel is only two floors high there was a ramp up to the second floor.
The amenities fairly close by are good there is a restaurant next door which if you ask Dawn she will give you a card for a FREE HALF LITRE OF HOUSE WINE!
Just down the road is the sea front and all the taverna's who will welcome you in with open arms even if you go every evening all the taverna's were serving fantastic food...
I would recommend the turtle island trip and Dawn will get you a good deal if you want to hire a car for the day.. watch out for the bread placed on your table at meal times, it is given without request and if you eat it, it's up to you, but it appears on your bill as service charge, however if you dont eat it the service charge it is still on your bill...so you may as well eat it.
The best buy we got was from Laganas which was a huge sea sponge..it was 3 euro's and was giant.
If you go into Zakynthos itself it is a main road full of shops for tourists.. and it is a 20 minute walk along the beach.. even those who cant handle greek food will enjoy it here there is a McDonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut!! walking along the beach brings you to a bridge and a tiny island its a steep walk up but its a sun spot once you get up there lovely for a cool drink in the sun, beware teens go there to hang out so if you are going for a peacful time stay away! Mavos/Mathos Tarverna is the best on the front, after you have finished your meal they give you a free Ouzo, dont refuse it like we did the first night enjoy it , theres no catch, your bill is paid they just want you to sit and enjoy the sea view a little longer as you can sit on the beach side of the road on a patio overlooking the sea! and they can do the boat trips to turtle island as well and you can even go in a motor boat alone! We did it was fantastic!
It was the most relaxing and pleasant surroundings we have encountered on a holiday, the Hotel is not suitable for rowdies, it is more for quiet peaceful sunworshippers to go too, and it is run like clockwork.
All in all we had a wonderful time in this little family run Hotel, and will be going back to this beautiful Hotel...If you go mention Karen and Paul from England to George and Dawn and say a big hi from us...

we had a lovely holiday this year in peaceful aghios sostis at the bougainvillea. Our apartment was fantastic, we had 3 balconys and very spacious living area.
we had a maid every day who changed bins and towels, she was excellent and very friendly although she could speak no english. we were made to feel very welcome and do not understand the comments made by other people. yiannis and lynda certainly worked hard and service was always good and they were very friendly. all the staff were great especially mad athina.
the greek night on tuesday is really good and one of the best we have been to. we have been to zante several times and this was the best place we have stayed. lots of people had returned there again. aghios sostis is lovely and you can dine on the beach with the sea 15 feet away, with a good selection of tavernas to choose from. if you want a bit more night life and souvenir shops then laganas is a 20 mins walk along the beach. car hire is a must to see the northern part of the island and a trip to see the ship wreck should be included, but not on on one of those all day trips, take a shorter one or go to porto vromi and get a small boat from there.
all the taverna prices are excellent and you could not get a meal and wine anywhere descent in england for the prices you can here.
i would recommend anyone to go to agios sostis and the bougainvillea.

Having looked at web site for Zante found Villa Flisvos...
Near Limini Keri
Described as peaceful apt with pool.
On arrival it certainly was that about 30 mins drive from airport 30 euros in fare.
We were greeted by Apt with pool, welcome pack of one bottle of water! ,2 tavernas ( one had shut down) probably due to lack of business!! the other up a hill looked to have 2 tables in someones front parlour..speaking to some Germans it opened on limited hrs...no bars in vicinity just plenty hills which Linford Christie would struggle at..
All was not lost the owner Genni drove us down a 1:3 hill to small resort for provisions..but apt had no kettle or major cooking facilities!! There was no taxis or even phone to call them on.
Although clean apt with lovely view and a/c but no control. If you like peace and quiet this is for you -but if like me you go on holiday to relax in quiet surroundings with restaurants and bars to hand this is not for you..You definately need a car.The beach as pictured at 200m is rocky and dangerous.
So BE WARNED VILLA FLISVOS !Is in the middle of no where.....
