Alykanas is a relatively small, quiet resort but with plenty of tavernas, a few shops and small supermarkets, plus sme bars. There are 2 ATM's and several car hire firms. It is 18 kms from the airport,taking 25 minutes by taxi for 25 euros. Hiring a car is reasonable and the island is well worth seeing. Limnnionas and Porto Vromi on the West coast are particularly beautiful with crystal clear water to swim in. A boat trip to the Blue Caves and Shipwreck beach is a great excursion, but take a small boat which can take you inside the caves not the large boats which are crowded and take you all round the island. All the tavernas in Alykanas are good, our favouites being Medousa, The Lemon Tree, Neraida, and Papadosiako.A two course meal for two with wine costs about 30 euros or £25. The Lofos Taverna up on the hill in Gerakari,3 or4 miles away has good food and fantastic views. Sunbeds on the beach are 7 euros and there is a small,quiet beach a 30 minute walk past the Lemon Tree and Old Alykanas near Red skins bar and Shoesmiths taverna. The weather was hot but the pool, sea and Mythos beer made it quite bearable.

We found the Tipsy Toad, an English owned bar where the staff; Linda, Terry & Gwen were very friendly and made us very welcome during our stay. Also there was the Millenium pool bar that was open from early morning to late at night. The staff there were excellent and very helpful, even offering to charge my Ipod when it ran out. The Typsy Toad was ran by Terry and his wife, who was in England when we were there. Every second Saturday during the season they do Christmas Eve, what a laugh! Terry and the staff decorate like it is Christmas and even dress themselves up as elves and they have a resident Santa/quiz master. Restaurants and bars were reasonably priced, we found Memories Restaurant that threw in a half litre of house wine, even when only in for a main course. We found the average for a 2 course for 2 with a drink was about 30 Euros. We found this reasonably cheap, even with the low exchange rate we received before going.

Very nice resort although not much to do bar eat or drink. Beach very small but nice and clean
