Apartments were clean and tidy, and well looked after by the owner Peter. Some others complained of the noise from the 'Twentys' block next door, but we never had any problems. Great location, only 150 yards from the beach.
The beach was clean and spacious, with very comfy sunbeds at a very reasonable 2-3 euros each. The 'looky-looky' CD sellers marched the beach all day, but you get used to them.

The main strip was full of great bars and restaurants, plenty of choice for everyone of all ages. Nice cocktails in Club Medousa ( you'll find loads of happy hours everywhere ! ), and for entertaining barmen, you've got to check out Zeros, particularly Georges and Takis, and the nightly Smirnoff Ice Challenge !

Day trip to Kefalonia was excellent, as was the Island Tour by coach. We tried the High Street sellers for the first time ( ignoring the advice of the reps, who obviously want the sales themselves ! ) The trips were exactly the same, and we would recommend the friendly service from Nikos, who runs day trips from an outlet on the main strip near the beach ( opposite La Bambas Bar. )

And the airport check-in was the easiest and most efficient we've experienced in the Greek Isles !
A great holiday, and we hope to return again one day.

This hotel was so bad that we had to move half way through our 2 week stay. We had been woken up every night, several times a night despite using earplugs and had no chance to catch up in the day as the pool and bar area of the 'Twenties' hotel next door was 10 feet from our balcony and played loud music constantly from 10am to midnight every single day. The doors were open at the end of the corridors straight onto the stairs to the street so people could wander in and out and basically sit in the coridoor at 4am cackling like a bunch of old hags with no response to being politely told to keep it down a little. Tiled floors echo.

The shower was mouldy, there was an uncovered hole in the bathroom floor to the drain, the room had obviously been broken into previously as the frame had been botched back together with a few screws and the floor felt constantly gritty and dirty in the room as if it hadn't been cleaned properly.

We took a while to get the majority of our things on the back of a motorbike)to a hotel in Tsilivi which we paid for ourselves at 45Euros per night for both of us BandB (this is the hotel Iathynkos right on the beach and it is fabulous - independantly run by a brother and sister and nothing to do with tour operators at all).

Unfortunately I was so exhausted from lack of sleep by this time that I came down with a disgusting chest infection that ruined the rest of the holiday anyway.

The resort of Laganas was OK but a bit grubby and tatty to be honest. We had been there in 2000 and it was loud then but we had none of the trouble as this time.

I know I sound like I'm whinging on and on but the entire holiday was ruined because of Olympic using this hotel. On our last day we went back so as to be able to catch the flight and saw an older couple (50's-60's) who had just arrived. The old chap was sat out on his balcony watching the lads at the Twenties place fighting and swearing (this was midday). Poor man was just shaking his head and saying ";terrible";.

I was shocked when on driving from the airport to the apartments the COACH actually drove on the BEACH. the beach is used as a road by taxis, coaches, quad bikes and mopeds (what happened to motoring laws).

the beach was actually quite poor i must say and u constantly get hounded by the DVD men and the doughnut guy and u cant walk past a beachside reataurant without someone tryna make you come in (even after u jus finished eating in the restaurant next door to theirs).

the restaurants were ok but watchout when you order your meal, they might bring some bread sticks (which we thought was FREE) which you get ADDED to ur bill at the end. NICE TRICK GUYS.

the nitelife is wicked and WAIKIKI is the place for RnB lovers like myself. BADBOYS club next to it was ok but not as good.

NOW the apartments.

We got there and there was a humid wetty smell in da building. this kinda lasted the whole week we were there. (we HAD to get used to it, and after a few days the awful smell becomes NORMAL)

there were rips in the mosquito net on the balony door which meant the fiendish creatures had a right feast on us.

the bathroom had no window and the air vent/extractor didnt seem to come on so there was always a race between us who showered first.

the manager guy was cool, even tho we were bad and noisy a few nites. he managed to look past it. :)

there was a pool behind the apartments but it was full of older folk( like me nans age 60+), but luckyly the apartment next to ours was an 2wentys apartment so we chilled there mostly.

well the holiday was not the best and dunno if ill be goin back to laganas any time soon. i'll try Malia this time instead

"Death Threats, Ants and Dorm Rooms"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Poor

Open quote

I have never stayed in a hotel where the manager believed it was ok to issue death threats to their guests. I travelled to Zante with 12 friends from University, and although we were all students who do enjoy a drink, the disturbance we caused at the hotel was minimal and the only problems we caused the hotel manager was dirtying a few towels and playing music on a mobile phone whilst sat on the balcony.

We recieved death threats from the manager on numerous occasions for refusing to pay for "dirty" towels that could not be cleaned, when we asked to see the towels, she refused to show them to us and therefore we refused to pay her... this resulted in her threatening to get her husband to kill us or smash in our faces. Aswel as this we were awoken some mornings by her and her husband sneaking into our rooms while we were sleeping to check if we had brought girls back to the hotel and also entering our room to make us get out of bed.

Every different group of guests experienced the same sort of thing with this crazy woman. There was another group of lads (A pool team from Bradford), two girls and a middle-aged couple. All groups recieved the same treatment. Aswel as this, the rooms were filthy and crawling with ants, the towels and bed sheets were changed only once in the whole two weeks we stayed there and the sheets were covered in cigarette holes. The beds were like planks of wood and they wanted us to pay 60 Euros a week for the air-conditioning facilities. The Shower curtain didnt only go around the shower, but was straight accross the bathroom and covered the toilet aswel, resulting in massive puddles of water everytime we showered.

This is without doubt the worst hotel I have EVER stayed in and the rest of my party agree with me on this point, we have contacted the travel agency and are attempting to reclaim some of our money for this appalling experience.

BEWARE THE PSYCHO HOTEL MANAGER!!!! - stay at this hotel at your peril.

The studios were basic but clean and well maintained by Irene and her husband. They are ideally situated, only two minutes from the beach, and five minutes from the main strip. You may experience some noise from nearby Twentys and Dados hotels, with young people going out about midnight and staggering home about 6a.m. but this didn't bother us too much. Linen changed three times in a fortnight, which is typical Greece ! Good budget accommodation, but wouldn't recommend for families or older couples.

"Don't stay there!!"

This hotel was filthy, damp and dirty. The bathroom was thick with mould and dirt, the beds were uncomfortable (for the one night we had to stay, we moved on day two) and I wouldn't let anyone I know stay there. It really was appalling and got our week in Greece off to a terrible start. Please do yourself a favour and stay somewhere else, we have taken pictures and sent them to the holiday company and they don't want to know. Please don't stay there!!

We last stayed here in 2005 along with my wife and mother-in-law and nothing has changed except the manager.

The manager is now a person called Irene who is greek, speaks very good English and is very nice, pleasant & polite. Alot of people have complained about her but having spoken to her it's because people or groups have been inconsiderate to others & the only way to make them listen is to threaten them. At the end of the day it is her business she is looking after and she doesn't need yobs destroying it.

The rooms are very clean and have everything that you need for self catering including a kettle which is unusual for the Greeks. Our room was cleaned every day except one where the cleaner (she was very good) had to prepare at least 10 other rooms for new arrivals. New sheets almost every other day, if not she at least made the bed. The bathroom is a decent size and has a shower tray with a curtain. You must remember not to flush toilet paper down the toilet and do not expect to get toilet paper when you run out. It is self catering & not a hotel so go get some from the shop 30 seconds away at a cost of less than 30p for 2 decent toilet rolls

The location is ideal for those that like to sit on the beach as it is not even a minute walk to get there. Most days we get beds & umbrella for €5 but places like Cubaneros where they play music throughout the day, the beds are free provided you purchase food & drink from them.

The location is also far enough from the main night life not to be able to hear it. Takes about 5 minutes to walk to get to the main strip. There is a restaurant right on the corner of where the apartments are but we found this to be the most expensive restaurant in the resort! You have a wide selection to choose from on the top part of the main strip and along the Kalamaki road off the Laganas Road. For breakfast we recommend Must bar which is 2 minute walk away on the way to the main strip

Most nights after dinner we went to Barcode who make the nicest cocktails at 2 for €5 before heading down to the best bar on the island Zeros. Here you are looked after by the best barmen on the island entertaining you with their excellent Flair skills. At 12 midnight the music stops in the outside bar which you gives you a chance to chat with the barmen. The music does however continue into club where the best DJ on the island plays the best music around

The only problem we have about the Zante DOro is the holiday company Olympic. We have had not very pleasant dealings with Olympic before and they are not a very good company and by the sounds of it nothing has changed with the way they are treating this manager.

Although we may not be going on holiday for awhile but we will definately be coming back to Zante and stay here again provided they are not with Olympic

40 euros a day for this room me and my partner paid! the smoke detector went off when i was making coffee.. the bathroom doesnt have a fan which causes it to be about 60 degrees and all fogged up when you have a shower! we received clean towels every 5 days.. otherwise you had to pay extra for them and our linen was changed every 5 days! the lady that can to mop everyday would not change the water so by the time she got to our room.. that water had been used on everyone elses room! you had to pay an extra 7 euros a day to have aircon which if you left it on in the morning and went to the beach, would be turned off (by someone) by the time you got back!
