We stayed at the Mimis apartments for two weeks at the beginning of September, 2005. We booked accommodation only with Medlife Holidays, part of the Argo group and booked our flights with Excel Airways. We pre-booked a car at the airport with Junior Car Rentals. We've used this firm four times and always found the service excellent.
This was our fourth time in Zakynthos, each time staying in Vasilikos and the first time in the Mimis apartments. These are family-run apartments, owned by Spiros and Janelle. The apartments are very clean. They have a full size fridge and two hotplates. All balconies overlook the pool area and the higher ones also have a sea view. The whole family is very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. There is an excellently-priced and very extensive breakfast menu and snacks are available all day.
On one evening each week there is a Greek night with a barbecue which is great fun. There are activities every evening in the Calypso Bar including a quiz and a karaoke night.
The area itself is very quiet and rural. It is also quite remote so we would recommend car hire to see the best beaches. The nearest beach is Porta Roma, five minutes' walk away. This is really a small strip of sand with a good fish restaurant at one end and a bar at the other. Gerakas beach is about a twenty-five minute walk away and is a nesting site for the loggerhead turtles. Consequently, no water sports are allowed here and there is no access to the beach between sunset and sunrise. There are some good tavernas above the beach on the road.
Near the apartments are some very good restaurants, Dionysis and Delfinia but our favourite is Babbis which is next to the village school and about a five-minute drive away. The food in this area is typically Greek, absolutely delicious and cooked using the freshest of ingredients. Don't come here if you eat egg and chips as your staple diet!
Every evening, having eaten at one of these restaurants, we walked to a taverna called Barba Nikos which is on the road leading to the Louis Hotel complex at Mavratsis beach. If you're a football fan, George, the owner and his wife, Toula have all the matches via satellite. George has a vast collection of football scarves which people from the U.K. and other places have sent him. George and Toula are very welcoming and extremely friendly. He speaks fluent English and many of his customers have been returning to his taverna since 2000 when he opened. We see the same people there at the same time every year! If you want any information about the island George can supply it. They have a beautiful daughter called Chrisanthi who is two years old.
For a marvellous day out try a boat trip with Mario who runs his own boat from the jetty in Porta Roma. We've done this twice and have seen turtles each time, although September is a bit late in the season for spotting many of them. There are plenty of stops for swimming and snorkelling off the boat, a beach stop and one for lunch.
We've seen just about all of the island but keep returning to this part to stay. We will definitely pay a return visit to the Mimis apartments.

Just returned last night so thought I should note my comments whilst they are still fresh.
I booked the holiday on the strength of the reviews on this website so I felt it important to air my views. I will try not to interject too much feeling and stick to the facts.
This was a last minute deal and everyone that we spoke to had booked the Thursday evening prior to departing on the Sunday (as indeed did we). I can understand this because once visiting the resort it is hard to see why anyone would want to return. It's a lovely place but there's absolutely nothing to do. If you like sitting by the pool/beach and sunning yourself in 35 degrees then this is the place for you.
Nearest beach is Porta Roma which is tiny. Gerkas beach is lovely but it's a 30-40 min walk. You can no longer walk through the olive groves (as other reviews have suggested).
At the Mimis studio apartments there is a nice pool and sunloungers (although you have to pay for a mattress). Be warned though.... 4 of the guest I spoke to at the departure airport had ear infections. Food is available all day and evening. The pool and the pool bar open at 8.30 and close at 7.30. Whilst the pool bar is open the radio is playing. When the pool bar closes the Calypso bar opens and closes when the last person leaves. Each night there is something happening: Pool night, Karyoki, greek barbi and dancing, bingo, televised football matches and quiz night.
There are approx 30 apartments (3 blocks of 10). They are the standard Greek style apartments with very limited cooking facilities. There is no airconditioning although you can RENT a fan. We visited last week in July and it was incredibly HOT.
Hiring a car is a must (definately recommend one with air con). The island is beautiful and well worth visiting.
We flew with Astreas airlines. The flight out was delayed. After boarding the captain announced that we had to wait for a member of the cabin crew to join us..... we departed two hours late. The return flight didn't leave at all! We were put up in a lovely hotel in Laganas overnight and taken to the airport at 7.30am! Our flight left at 1.30pm. The free sandwich we were offered was an insult and I won't go into it just incase you're eating your dinner!
In a nut shell.... lovely island, worth a visit, Vassilikos is great to visit if you like doing nothing. Agassi or Laganas are great to visit if you like pumping music and drunk people. Our tour by car showed Keri beach is lovely but I don't know what it's like to stay there.
Happy Holidaying!!

Have just returned from 2 weeks at Mimis apartments in Vasilikos.
The apartments are all studios, with all holiday needs catered for. The place is owned and run by Spiros and his partner Janelle (from Wales). They are both very friendly and helpful, and are always on hand if you need any assistance with anything. The pool area is clean and quiet, and there are always plenty of sunbeds.
There is an all day menu that runs from basic eggs on toast to a range of traditional Greek food. It is great to stroll over from the pool, and enjoy a relaxing lunch in the shade, with a large Mythos!
The highlight of the week is the Tuesday night barbecue with traditional Greek dancers. The food is prepared by Spiros, Janelle and Spiros's dad Dimitri, and is absolutely delicious (don't have any lunch that day as there is huge amounts of food).
The dancers are very charismatic and everybody gets up for a bit of a boogie! A great night that you should not miss.
The resort of Vasilikos itself is very quiet, with only three or four tavernas in walking distance. The best one is The Delfina which is almost next door to Mimis. The food here was of a good standard, and also excellent value. Try the pork casserole, delicious!
The local beach is rather grotty, but there is a large sandy beach about 5 mins away in the car/scooter and 25 mins walk, which has more facilities and a large sun bathing area. There are several other good beaches fairly close, but you will need to hire a car/scooter to reach them.
I would recommend Mimis to anyone looking for a relaxing and quiet holiday, with no hassle or noisey clubs/pubs etc. Only the 5am cockerel if you forgot your alarm clock!
A word of warning though; Zakynthos Airport is a nightmare, so be patient!
The holiday seems a distant memory as I type this, but I still think back to the wonderful time we spent at Mimi's and would want others to enjoy it also.
The Holiday was exactly as we had been sold. A quiet destination for us to relax and unwind.

The resort itself is completely unspoilt with enough taverna's within a mile walk to keep you well fed and watered every night (we spent 2 weeks here). Two beaches are in easy walking distance and the furthest (Gerakas) is well worth the walk through the olive grove.
Mimi's itself was very clean, perfectly functional and in a prime location. Janelle and Spiro just simply could not do enough. The pool was excellent - never a fight for a sun lounger and everyone at the accomodation was there to simply relax and unwind.
The Island was lovely. We hired a car for 5 days and got to see some wonderful sights. If you want to see the ";Ship wreck"; and the ";Blue Caves"; I would certainly recomend doing it by car. The roads are very windy and I can't imagine it being much fun on a big coach!! We went on the turtle trip with ARGO and had a truly splendid day. You could see the difference in this tour operator when our vessel docked to let off 150 Airtours guests to be replaced by 75 ARGO guests. Everyone had space to enjoy the views.
Other people have mentioned the Airport - and it certainly is not pleasant, but its worth the hassle to have a truly great holiday.
In summary, Great resort, Great accomodation, Fantastic hosts and really relaxing Holiday.

I have just come back from Zakynthos last week and had a lovely stay at the Mimis Studios. Jeanelle was absolutely fantastic especially serving us lot her yummy toasties and drinks! The studios themselves were spacious, clean and we had a nice balcony with a stunning sea view. The bar and the outside bit are perfect for meeting up with other guests after dinner for a bit of socializing and drinking. The pool area is also great with lots of sun loungers.
Vasilikos itself is very quiet but it's great if you wish to get away from the usual tourist resorts. We were a young group but we still enjoyed ourselves, with a good choice of restaurants around the area. Food and wine is also very cheap and there is plenty of it! About a ten minute drive from Mimis is the most wonderful restaurant which looks over the sea to the Greek mainland but I can't remember the name! I think it's worth renting a car to explore the rest of the island, but getting out of Vasilikos can be a bit scary as the roads are very twisty with many tight turns.
I recommend going to Kerri Beach which is South West from Lagunas, it is very relaxing and the beach is beautiful. We did a boat trip while we were here too, it only cost 10 Euros and was worth every cent, it took us round to the caves and we also got to see Turtle Island up close. The island is very beautiful, the sea is wonderful and it is very green. Vasilikos really was the best resort to stay in especially if all you want to do is get away from it all.
