Baga as a holiday resort is excellent and is a good spot for beach and shopping. From the hotel you can either walk into Calangute or else take a taxi further afield. The area has numerous restaurants.

Arpora itself is very quiet, although there is a Saturday market and a couple of good places to eat - can highly recommend RASA (the best curry we had whilst in Goa) and Nick's Place (a great Sunday roast!).
Baga is the closest beach, and you either love it or hate it. Frequented by locals, and full of hustle & bustle with local sellers. The shacks are great, and so cheap. Be aware that the hotel courtesy bus is unreliable!! It's only 100 rupees in a taxi, though, so easy enough to get back. Mandlem beach is around a 40 minute taxi ride away, but well worth a visit. Much quieter & nicer than Baga, and we generally paid 700 rupees (around £10) for a taxi there & back.

I wasn't too impressed with the resort, I did not venture away from the village, I found it to be very dirty away from the hotel. The beaches though were kept clean and the locals were welcoming.

Visited Kerkar art gallery when we went to Goa nad went to the evening performace which was about 250r each if I remember. We were given a bottle of Limca (ugh!) but never mind, and were seated in the back courtyard of the centre. Seating for about 20-30 I think and the courtyard was lit with atmosphefric tealights, temple lantern type lighting and there was the smell of incense. The performance was preceded by a very short but informative talk and then each performer gave short inrto to there performance. Saw a sitar and table player and classical indian dancers.Lasted about 2 hours and was well worth the visit. there is also the art gallery there which is small but very interesting to see or purchase items(no pressure whatsoever).

Disappointed with Calangute beach, however beaches further up the coast were amazing. Lots of places to eat but very busy.

You can walk along the beach into the resort centre. Not much there apart from a few shops. however the shopping centre there is quite good. The pharmacy there could also come in handy. Beware when you are out and about of people trying to sell you timeshare, they try and say you will get this free but when it comes to it you spend 2 hours there and they don't have what you want in stock.

Candolim review
"Did not like - had to do activities"
resort to a friend
I can;t say I really enjoyed the main parts of the resort. Too many people sunbathing on the beach which inexplicably had a tanker run aground on it. There were decent amount of restaurants along the main road but most shops had salesman trying to make you buy the same old tat. We preferred to do activities (via John's Boat Tours rather than the operators/hotel etc) such as dolphin watching, a visit to a spice plantation etc. Walking around Fort Aguadar was also easy from Candolim.

A very good resort, and gave us somewhere to go in the evening to get away from the hotel and the so called entertainment. Lots of shops and bars. Mike's Place a great place with excellent live music and entertainment. Also loved the Raj Mahal restaurant on the river Sal. Wonderful, friendly and helpful staff, great food in a lovely setting. Being on the beach somewhat spoiled by the hordes of beach sellers who do become a bit of a nuisance especially when they sit down on your sunbed uninvited.
