In my opinion North Goa is better for young people as there are lots of things to do. Stay away from Calangute.you get mivered and it looks awful. Baga is the best.

We love Candolim as a resort, but will avoid the Alor Grande Hotel. There are lots of clean 2t Hotels in the area.
We will be looking forward to going next Jan 2010

the resort of candolim is a busy place but not overly busy that feels uncomfortable!1it has plenty of restaurants, shops etc. it is a place where many much older english people go for their holidays(many for a month or so at a time)due to the climate and how cheap it is to go there. it isnt a place to go for the nightlife etc but there are plenty little bars, restaurants to have a drink at so not really recommended for the really young looking for a wild time! the beach shacks are brilliant find one you lokk get a bed and settle for few hours rest in the sun,get yourself some lunch in the shacks the food is lovely, fresh and very very cheap!

This resort is quiet, but thats what we were looking for, so it suited us,but if you are looking for more markets and shops, its only a bus journey, at the cost of 5rupees(roughly 7p!!).15minutes and your in Panjim, with everything from your local market to designer shops.

A rapidly developing resort with a lovely beach where you can walk for miles, safe sea and many lifeguards in attendance. Beach still retained a fishing fleet, and drying fish were a feature on all beach roads, interesting if rather smelly! Paddy fields, pigs, cows, chickens and bulls being taken into the sea to bathe preserved the rural heritage of the area. Numerous beach shacks with reasonably priced food and drinks and evening entertainment of varying standard. Meals (for2) with a couple of drinks each came to aproximately 500 rupees. Obviously prices have gone up but still excellent value. Stall holders were very friendly . Keen to sell, they didn't pester but don't say 'later ' if you don't mean it. They do remember. On the other hand they were grateful for a purchase and loved to chat. They did not expect to sell to you again and again. Round bars and shacks owners kept their area clean but where no one took responsibility there were vast quantities of litter. The locals were very aware that visitor numbers are down this year. They want to please. We never felt threatened and felt that we could walk in the area freely, greeted by everyone we met.

Cavellosim village is just outside the gates of the Dona Sylvia Hotel, so you have the choice of many good restaraunts including Golden eye,Riverview, Get Down and Mikes place along with many others. Lots of small shops and plenty of Taxis to take you to other parts of Goa at a fraction of the tour companies prices, perfect location.

Calangute review
"Calangute busy town but nice...."
resort to a friend
We love Goa and Calangute, it's a bit busy at times and you should get out and about and see some other beaches.

Need to buy some sun glasses for the bright colours. Beach can be what you want ,either Baga beach for the sun worshipers or find your own spot for a rest/sun nd a quite drink. Many shops selling all (copies)watches/shoes/tee-shirts....Bars are many and your choice . Fortunatly no football maniacs (yet) but still can watch premiership football live and ofcourse Cricket is a must.A walk along the main road will clear you hearing problema ,as the drivers use the horn and not the brake.Taxis are plentiful and are always drumming up trade (still quite cheap) Not far from the main towns of Mapusa/Panjim and these are worth a visit. If you go have a good holiday and use your own judgement over Indian and the Indian people..

Calangute has lots of excellent restaurants, The Oriental at The Mira Hotel possibly being the best!
Food and drink is very cheap and it's also within distance of Baga and Candolim, which also have many good places to eat and drink.
Constantly being asked if you want a taxi can be a bit of a pain (especially when the driver asking has just watched you get out of another cab!) but, on the whole, the local people are friendly.
The beach is nice but would be a whole lot better if the litter was cleaned up more often.
This is a busy resort and, if you wanted somewhere quieter, I would suggest Candolim.

Candolim is getting busier, especially over Christmas/New Year period. Lot more commercialised than in past years but still great.
Take care in the sea from Baga-Candolim, as the undercurrent is very strong.
