on arrival we were put in a room over the bridge at least 5 minutes walk from the reception you have to walk back for breafast /restaurant etc if you forget anything its a very long walk,we asked to be moved nearer the swimming pool on an upper floor told it was £100 extra asked the rep he said that was from next the manager then said they were full anyway obviously not just trying to rip us of,the back window had a cover over it so you cant see the construction yards away ,the food at the hotel is awful and tax is added to everything you dont mind if the food is good the rooms are in need of painting and the a/c dosnt look as its been cleaned since put in,the busiest man at the hotel is the doctor we saw him that often we were almost on first name terms

the hotel appears tired and dated and the same attention to detail is not there as on my last visit you now have to pay to watch tv,and the breakfast is worse than i remember went twice during my stay no wonder they give it free, the room we stayed in ,the window had a cover screwed over it so you couldnt see the enormous block of flats built about 4mts away and towering over the hotel.the area around the pool is very rarely swept cutting my foot on some broken glass.had dinner in the hotel once awful cold rice etc should have listened to others.and tax is added to every thing i think it was 12% sales tax and 10%service charge the waiter said he did not get this and expected a further tip.

been to this hotel a few years ago the rooms have not been updated or any money spent on them the a/c was filthy and the tiny tvs have become pay per viewthe food and drinks have become very expensive compared to outside it looks reasonable until the bill arrives and all theextra tax has been added the last time we went the hotel was overbooked this time less people there perhaps the greedy owners have scared people of the rooms across the bridge are to be charged more for because they are slightly more modern it has a nice setting but is far away from every where and you have to get a taxi every where with only 67 rps to the pound 87 rps last time there everything is more expensive

the hotel is in desperate need of updating the a/c in our room was rusty and noisy and didnt use it in case we were ill the breakfast is awful with one toaster for all the guests about 400 if hotel full all squashed onto an old tennis court, boxes were being fitted to the 12inch tv so you will have to pay to watch the tv rooms in the annexe are to be classed as premier rooms and charged extra the hotel adds about 25% on everything sales tax and service tax the waiters get non of this just the greedy owners the main pool was dirty and people complained of things missing from rooms and people had bags snatched outside the hotel you have to get a taxi every where and they are getting expensive

"Just what we had expected"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Having used this hotel many time before we knew what we were going to get and we were Not let down. The old Tenis court where Breakfast is served has Now been completely granite tiled but you can still opt to sit on the Balcony or near the pool if you so wish !

The rooms are Basic with a/c & fridge also cleaned daily with bedding changed every day. There is a small t/v in the room on which you will get all the Premiership game's & BBC world news to enable you to keep in touch if you so need. There are building works going on to the rear of the annex (next door) but it does not disturb you in any way. The grounds are tendered everyday by a work force of many from dawn to dusk surrounding the fishing lakes where some people fish ( sea fishing equipment !! ) but most just watch the fish swim & jump.

The tailors & the jewelers on site will do you as good a deal as any you will find in the local towns & they will still be there when you visit the next year should you require alterations. The reception staff are always willing to help but you will get a better exchange rate from the shack 5o yrds down the road. There are loads of taxi's just out side the gate and Baga / Calangute is 100 - 150 rupee's away.

Why do we keep returning to this hotel ?? Well it is close to every where & within walking distance of the beach yet further away from the hussle & bussle than some may expect. There is Saturday night market on the ground to the right of the hotel which draws people from all over the state ( Just like the Wednesday Anjuna market except on a smaller scale & with a live band playing until Midnight )

We hire a Motorbike and make our own way around that costs us about 200 -250 Rupees a day. Smaller scooters can be hired from Nick's place just outside the hotel for 100 Ruppes including helmets & paperwork ( Make sure you take driving Licence to show police if stopped ) There was 76 Ruppees to the £1 in November - December. Some taxi driver also hire out scooters & Royal Enfield bikes just outside the gate just ask for Vj / David

Close to the hotel are various places to eat the Best in our opinion being All spice & Nick's place & Star light if you want slightly more rustic & quite a lot cheaper. Locals eat there but there are very few hairs & graces about the place.

The theme night held in the hotel are quite ok to attend food is far better than it used to be and the drinks are no more expensive than out and about. So all in all quite good nights in !!!!

If you look back over the years I have reviewed the Marinha Dorada Resorte on many oocassions all of those reviews would still stand and little as changed except the food at the functions have got better with the arrival of a better chief. We will continue to return for the forseeable future

"perfect location"

The grounds of this hotel will take your breath away! The staff give 110% to make your stay as pleasant as possible. It is spotlessly clean both inside and out. The sheets and towels were changed every day and the room cleaned. The room was large and basic, much as I had expected for a 3 star hotel. I think that some people expect too much for not much money. It is within easy reach of most places by taxi which are very cheap but you can leave the action behind here when you feel like it. There is an excellent tailor on site who will make a fully lined suit for £80. I would also recommend the beauty salon for a relaxing massage(heavenly). I will definately be returning to this lovely hotel.

"Peaceful Oasis"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Peaceful Oasis would sum the Marinha Dourada to a tee. Away from the Hussle & Bussle of Baga which is a mile walk left out of the hotels main gate.Arpora being Less than 10 mins walk in the other direction. We have stayed in the Marinha Dourada on 3 occassions & would Not consider Any other hotel in the State of Goa. All the staff are more than willing to help & serve with gardeners attending to the grounds & lakes all day long. The rooms are basic but large and cleanwith views over the lakes or pools or both. Maid cleaning every day with clean sheets & towels & mini bar/fridge top up daily. There's a New chef & the food has much improved since our last visit 2 years ago. Breakfast is plentiful & self service with Indian & European selection/Fruit juice/Tea & Coffee. I would recommend this Hotel for anybody who likes to be close to all the area as to offer But likes to leave the Noise behind.

the hotel is very good, people should be advised to use it as a base and travel about to different beaches. The amount of people who sit by the pool day in and out is amusing, you travel all this way to see nothing of what goa has. This is a poor country and people expect 5 star luxury well sorry open your eyes and see how hard the staff work to make your stay a good one. We have stayed here 3 times and will go back again, we have not been ripped off by any taxi drivers or been offered drugs of any sort so I cannot comment on those remarks of other reviewers. Travel about and enjoy the scenery and the goan people are very welcoming, most of the beach sellers are not goan and if you tell them you are not buying they will leave you alone. We love the tranquility of the hotel and there are so many restaurants around about you can eat somewhere different every night.

We stayed at the Marinha Dourada for the 7 - 28th December, it was our 3rd visit and found the same good service. The rooms are cleaned daily and are very spacious. The pools and gardens are kept spotless, the views are great with fish jumping out of the water but never when you the videos out! there are two bars with friendly staff and the Barracuda stays open till you leave.People have complained about the breakfast area, yes it is in the old tennis court but so what its no big deal.Theres a new cafe called Nicks Place 5 mins walk that does a good breakfast.Good restaurants are All Spice,Aubergines,Kim Farr,East Meets West,Silver Sands,Ronal Royal that was trimmed up lovley for xmas and Bom Fin that have indian musicians, have a dance they love it.To all Silver Sands fans its not there this year they didnt get a licence(gutted) but they have a restaurant near East Meets West,Sammys still there but Johns gone home. Our taxi driver Nelson works from there and was brill he was there was us anytime and loved coming for a drink with us.A good bar is Liquid wich is a 5 min walk from Silver Sands a good laugh and Raj is there from Shooters.Shooters is just up the road a bit quiet this year but Ali,Elo and Lucky are still there.Stayed in a beach hut at Ashwem,a nice quiet beech and an experience.Went down to Colva, worth a visit ,a lovley beach. We visited Little Acorns in Calangute, its a charity for children and took some donations, clothing ect,it was very humbling and the kids lovley.they take the children to Big Banana beach shack on sat aft in Baga if you want to make a donation. The beach shack we used a lot was St Anthonys, brill staff and David does great henna tattoos. All in all another great holiday and we still love the hotel, theres a nice jewellers there where i bought a nice ring from BInny(sweet man),Edwin the manager is very good and im sure if a problem arose he would sort it out,3rd time at the same hotel is a 1st for us and we plan another 3 weeks in Dec.

although not as luxurious as where we have stayed beofre, the rooms were exceptionally spacious, with living, lounging and eating areas plus a balcony (all rooms look over either the lakes or the pool or both). Rooms cleaned daily, with fresh linen and towells, plus a replenished mini bar daily. The hotel itself offers roomj service, breakfast (although not substantial), and a ful men throughout thr day and night plus full evening meal or special buffet night. Recommend you hire a taxi outside the hotel PER DAY to take you ANYWHERE for afixed fee of arouns 800 rupees, suggest the spice plantation, elephant ride, Ashvem Beach - all for a fraction of the price of the travel rep. Turn left out of the hotel and you keep walkinh till you hit Baga Beach - recommend East meets West Restaurant. Walk right and go to either Aubergines. or All Spice, top curries at a bargain price. Best food EVER is Soulymens just outside Calungute - any taxi driver will have heard of hear = JUST GO!!! All in all one of the bst holidaysE EVER! GO GO GO TO GOA!!!!

A well run, spotless hotel with extremely helpfull staff. Every time you passed a member from gardener to manager, they all say morning/evening sir. Set overlooking a huge lagoon with eagles and kingfishers to see, the location is good because it is in a very peacefull area, but you are only 5 mins walk from a few exellent restaurants, and a 5 minute cab ride from a couple of bigger resorts. We went for a week, and we did a couple of trips, but with it being a long flight, I would recomend staying for two weeks. All in all a very good hotel and a brilliant holiday was had by all!
