"Worst Hotel in the world. Avoid avoid."

Overall Hotel Rating:

Poor

Open quote

I am a regular traveller, and am fortunate to have visited many many countries in the world. Having stayed in both top end and humble locations I can confidently say that the Prazeres Resort is by far the worst hotel I have ever visited.

If you are accustomed to staying in a clean, safe hotel then avoid this hotel like the plague.

The management are rude, the rooms small and filthy (extremely basic) with very poor lighting and in desperate need of some TLC. When my friends informed the hotel we cannot stay in such a place - the management threathened my group with 'goons'. So please be fully aware of the 'cancellation policy' prior to booking a room here.

The Air cons did not work in half the rooms either.

Please spend your money in a more deserving place.

Had a lovely stay here. Would return if the flights were better timed.

Loved the private beach, patrolled all the time by the hotel staff.Great setting.Beds were free but if you wanted a foam mattress you had to fork out a huge fee of 80 pence.Try getting that for 80p in Majorca.

Rooms were an adequate 3 star and are to be refurbished this winter. Lovely Thomsons rep to, not pushy at all.

Food was ok and the very drinkable wine was free.

You wont find many better 3 star hotels than this......

We stayed in an apartment at Prazeres for a week in Feb 09. Lovely apartment with excellent facilities and a great location (near beach and amenities).

Hotel entertainment and music is dated although it added comedy value and created great memories!

Would definitely book to stay at Prazeres again!

"hotel for alcoholics"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Good

Open quote

Nice hotel with good rooms and very friendly waiters and cleaners but unfortunately let down very badly by greedy management who will continue to sell alcohol to very drunk people right up to 5am in morning if they want to carry on drinking! Have seen same people drinking again at before 7am in the morning. We had deluxe room above bar and though rang reception on numerous occasions to try and get noise and swearing stopped nothing was done. Reported it also to Olympic rep. but dont know if he did anything, though he said he did. Management also promised on first night there that it would stop, but after three weeks nothing changed. Its a shame as hotel is nice. Needs new management and drinking times.

"Very Noise, not suitable for children"

We would not recomend staying in this hotel as it is very noise with music and shouting going on until early hours of the morning, this included the staff aswell as guests. We had to change rooms 3 time due to a dirty room, noise, electric sockets and air condition not working. Apparently this is not unusual for this hotel. Some of the staff kept short changing us and on the last day the room boy kept asking us a £20 tip.

We were very wary after reading the reviews but got such a good deal with First Choice we decided to go for it anyway. Hotel room was great, very clean and comfortable. Staff were great. Would definately stay here again. We didn't experience any problems whatsoever. Travelling with First Choice was a joy. Been to Goa 3 times and it just gets better and better. Fantastic people, fantastic food and fantastic weather

Arrived at hotel to find our rooms did not have enough beds, reception asked if matress on floor was okay? Are you having a laugh i said. Eventually got extra bed after involving manager. Toilet constantly leaking in one room waited 2 days to fix and boiler for shower not working either in one of our rooms.

Also don't go to this hotel if you like going to bed handy as the bar remains open until the early hours with the manager also getting drunk with you. This is okay if you like staying up all night but it it get a bit annoying night after night.
Staff are mainly friendly, but we had my son's mobile phone stolen from our room on the last night so beware.

This was our third time to Goa, people remain friendly, food is excellant and the beech shacks are excellant. With Bayview shack being the best in my view, excellant food and service from Dennis and Shaggy.
Though Goa is now getting more and more commercialised (Kareoke and sports bars).

This has now become so noisey it is beyond a joke.Music so loud till 3-45am on many a night.Never ever again as we have been there a few times before.Every thing has changed, and when the security staff are drunk it is beyond a joke.saw a pensioner threathened by a Young securty guard who was in charge, thats is the last straw.
If it was for free we would never return there.Times have changed and all the staff from 2005 have gone and the systen is bad.
Sorry but this needs a good overhaul as it has gone from bad to worse.Windows locked and the noise was still getting though. Met many people from the previous years and none will go back. You have been warned so dont complain later in 2007.This has spoilt Goa for us the Taxi drivers are the worst in Goa and rip off the guests, and the manger did nothing even when a guest had been double charged.Forget this as a place to stay as it will spoil Goa for you.The Breakfast is so bad one wonders what the people eat back in the UK.

First time in goa and what a holiday loved every minute of it booked to go back again next year.Hotel was as i expected facilities where good and the room was basic but i expected it to be. No problems with the hotel and the staff where excellant especially the boys who done the cleaning of rooms every day had towels and different designs on the beds.Candolim is lovely all the staff everywhere you go ar great got be one of the cheapest holidays ever the prices are so low for food and drink. Hence the reason why we booked to go again next year but staying in Casa SeaShells next year the only thing a had a problem with in Prazaeres the beds where like sleeping on a table rock hard.
Claudinas beach shack on Candolim beach was great Anthony and the all the staff where 100% great looked after everyone all day every day.

Cant wait to go back to Claudinas and Candolim next Feb but definate not flying with Monarch the seats where what you expect to fly to Spain on very small defo not suitable for long haul flights.

We spent a month in Candolim at the Prazeres resort Dec-Jan06. This was our 5th Visit to Candolim and 4th time at the Prazeres. There are a couple of reasons we keep coming to the Prazeres. First of all it is excellent value for money. We would rather pay extra for up-grading on the flights then pay extra for the hotel. It isn't needed. The Prazeres is clean comfortable and has excellent facilities. There is lively entertainment 4 nights a week (very good local bands) and it is within walking distance to Candolim Beach, shops and restaurants. It more then adequately fullfils our holiday requirements.

The Prazeres is a very friendly hotel. The staff are superb. They make you feel so very welcome and included. They can't do enough for you.The owner(Raul) takes a special interest in the entertainment and uses this to personally welcome and include guests. The waiters (Mo and Cosme) go out of their way to make your stay pleasurable (even organising a surprise birthday party for me), The reception offer a 24 hour service and do an excellent job of making you feel safe and supported. The rooms are cleaned every day with clean sheet and towels by a really lovely room person who is always cheerful and friendly. Many people like us return year after yearso an added bonus is that we get to meet old friends.

We like Candolim. It is quieter then neighbouring resorts. The main Candolim beach is breathtaking and where we spend many of our afternoons. We would recommend Claudina's shack down Candolim Beach Road. The food is good and very reasonably priced and nothing is too much trouble for the staff there (Anthony, Alex and Martin.

There are many good eating places in Candolim. We would recommend Casa Sea ,Chinese palace, Fisherman's Cove, Alexanda's and Claudina's shack. Food is unbelievably inexpensive and good. We would also recommend a trip to Panjim and a visit to the Delhi Durbour for good Indian Cuisine. We would also recommend you indulge in a massage. They are incredibly cheap and really affective.

We have just booked our 6th trip to the Prazeres in April and can't wait. They say you either love or hate Goa ..it goes without saying, we love it.

Open quote

We were at Prazeres Resort from 30th December 2005 to 13th January 2006 and we had a great time. As other reviews have already said, Prazeres is a lovely place and the rooms are kept really clean. I'd sometimes bump into our cleaner in the morning and he'd ask me if we wanted our room cleaned that day, and even if I said it wasn't necessary he'd do it anyway! The ";towel origami"; he demonstrated every day nice touch. The swans he made were particularly impressive. He even wrote ";BYE"; in towels on our last day! Some of the sheets and pillowcases were a bit stained though, the hotel could do with investing in some new ones.

The pool is nice but only one side of it gets the sun all day. There isn't much space around the pool so it gets a bit cramped (especially on the sunny side) but there are normally enough sunbeds.

The breakfast which is included in the cost of your stay consists only of toast, jam and tea/coffee but if you want anything else e.g. bacon and eggs you can order it off the menu at a reasonable cost. The food served at lunch and dinner is very good and reasonably priced although more expensive than alot of the other restaurants in the area (e.g. the ";Moonlight Garden"; just up the road).

Our bedroom only had a tiny little balcony, not even big enough to put a chair out there, but if we wanted to sit outside and have a drink/smoke we'd sit out on the open air landing outside our room. Unfortunately we regularly saw rats running around at the bottom of the stairs but luckily that was as close as they came!

The New Year's Eve entertainment at the hotel was pretty dire - a man with a keyboard singing about how he's ";Crazy for feeling so lonely"; or asking if we're ";somewhere feeling lonely, or is someone loving [you]"; is not exactly going to put you in the party mood! But the free buffet dinner provided was lovely and after we'd had that we went down to one of the beach shacks to have some drinks and watch the fireworks which were spectacular.

If you get Deli belly (which you probably will I'm afraid) you can call out a doctor for 500-700 rupees and he'll give you a prescription for some strong drugs or give you an injection which should see you right.

Don't eat any salads at the beach shacks because they'll have been washed in tap water which of course is a big no-no. Don't even rinse your toothbrush in tap water! We were really careful but both of us managed to get ill somehow.

Candolim beach is not the best beach I've been too but it's still lovely, with loads of sunbeds available either for free or for 50 rupees a day. You'll have an almost constant stream of hawkers stopping at your sunbed trying to sell you things/get you to ";sponsor"; them which is a bit irritating but none of them are aggressive. Litter is a problem but we saw a woman with a basket walking along clearing it up at least once a day.

The sea wasn't very clear - we went to several different beaches in North Goa and it was the same everywhere, even when we paid to go on a snorkelling trip. The visibility was only about a foot so we couldn't see anything! This is probably because we were near alot of river outlets and also the sea was quite choppy which churns up all the sand/seaweed etc.

The main road in Candolim is not very nice to walk along - there's loads of traffic (and cows!) and there's no pavement so you have to walk along a dusty track. It's best just to get taxis everywhere, especially at night. If you do walk anywhere at night make sure you have a flashlight with you so that you're visible to drivers.

If you like clubs make sure you visit Club Cubana at the top of a hill in Anjuna - it's fantastic! They call themselves ";The Nightclub in the Sky"; and when you get there you'll see why. It's like Hugh Heffer's house, with a swimming pool and a jacuzzi outside and loads of beds to lounge around on.

The best restaurant we went to was ";After Seven";. The food and service was just amazing. This is really expensive compared to other restaurants in Goa, but we still only spent about £7 a head for drinks, a starter and a main, all cooked by top chefs in a sparklingly clean kitchen. I also recommend ";Little Italy"; which is in a beautiful setting and great if you fancy a change from Indian food. ";The Stone House"; is also good, much cheaper and more relaxed and casual than the other two but still high quality food.

Anjuna market is on Wednesdays and is an experience not to be missed. It's huge and extremely lively. You have to barter for everything. The routine is as follows: the stall holder will give you a stupidly high price, you look horrified and offer them a third/half of what they've quoted, they then look devastated and tell you that was their cost price, you say you can't afford to pay any more than that and walk away, then they'll call you back and agree to your price. It gets a bit tiresome to be honest, I wish they'd just have a set price for everything but that's just not the way they do things in Goa!

The locals could not be friendlier and they're extremely polite and helpful. There are always plenty of official taxis waiting outside the Prazeres. It says on their dashboards that they charge 18 rupees per km but that's actually nonsense - price are still very cheap though. A very short journey to a local restaurant costs 50 rupees and a trip to Calangute (the next resort along) usually costs 150 rupees but this varies from driver to driver.

If you've booked to stay at the Prazeres you won't regret it - we had the odd gripe but nothing that in any way spoiled our holiday (apart from the Deli belly of course but we don't know who was responsible for that!).

Have fun in Goa - it's fantastic!

Mmmmmm - we loved Goa but if you are used to Mallorca etc with shiny boulevards to stroll along and everything looking clean and new don't go. First there aren't any pavements and second this is basically a third world county and there is poverty and dirt and dust etc etc. However if you have an open mind you'll love it.

Food, drink and people are lovely - most restaurants and shacks are good but you have to go to A Reverie next to the Hotel Goa Heritage between Candolim and Calangute - beutifully presented gourmet food in fabulous setting - we had 3 courses (including lobster ) and loads of drink - the bill for the evening was about £23 - incredibly expensive for Goa but my god was it worth it !!!!!

The Prazeres is nice enough - well the pool bar and eating area is. The rooms are a lottery - the first one we had at the back was dreadfull ( and I've stayed in some grotty hostels all over the world !!) but we asked to be moved and had a lovely little apartment type room overlooking the pool. The early morning can get a bit noisy though as they do stay open later than other hotels and attract some hard drinkers in during the early hours so there was a fiar bit of shouting and drunken antics going on. Management are a bit offhand and service not particularly good. Staff pleasant enough though. Never got room cleaned and kept asking for towels we never recieved. Just don't expect western standards of service.

As I said Goa is not for everyone - if you expect high class facilities and service and everything to be bright and shiny don't go !!! If you realise that you are seeing a completely different lifestyle and there is dirt and litter and cows and manic driving and horns blasting all the time and poverty - go - you'll love it

Booked a last minute deal on internet for private apartment at Prazeres Resorts.Looked good on web-site and certainly didn't disappoint.

Apartment had everything stated - and more,(even fishing rods!) Very comfortable and nicely furnished (not the usual 'Indian' basic style!)Staff fantastic - even brought takaways up to us on the balcony on request! Live music a bit dated but plenty of entertainment to be found elsewhere.Pool pleasant and restarant good(although a bit more expensive than some).Favourite beach shack, Spotty's, favourite restaurants, Coyote, The Bistro(near Whispering Palms) and Stone House (great music). 3rd visit to Goa and would certainly recommend Prazeres - in fact, already booked for April 06 this time with friends as owners of IF4 have another to rent next door.
