Having stayed the previous year we were looking forward to returning to the Luise for a week this year. Not much appeared to have change on first glance, but after a few days it was apparent that the hotel did not have the same 'feel good' factor that it had the previous year, in fact I would go as far to say that the high standards had slipped and a 4* rating was a bit of an overstatement, 3* maybe. The rooms appeared a bit more dilapidated and the food which has been excellent was decidedly average. It is a pity that the standard has dropped for the Luise as it would have been a hotel that in previous years I would have recommended without hesitation, not today I'm afraid.

We booked this as a cheap October break with Italian Getaways. We got free trips to Verona and Venice included and a free upgrade to half board. What a bargain! We also got free wine and water with our evening meal. The hotel is in a pedestrian area so you have to carry your bags about 150 metres from the bus station which might not suit some people. The Alla Torre is owned by the Hotel Astoria which is literally 20 metres away across a piazza and this is where you register and take your meals. The food was very good and the staff were very attentive. They were very good at helping with the small things that help make a holiday. Bus and boat timetables, reminding you to collect your passport, etc. There are 2 sittings for dinner which you can book beforehand. The first sitting is at 7.00 and is very popular, so we didn't always get in then. This was not really a great problem to us, but could be to some people. All in all a great holiday and much better than we had expected.

Lasize is a wonderful, laid back, holiday location full of fabulous restaurants and cafes in some beautiful locations, we never had a bad meal. The water park and movie studios are quite close with a free bus service from Lasize. Take the ferry to Sirmione, Garda Town and buses run round the lake regularly to Malcesine and Riva. In Malcesine take the cable car up to Monte Baldo, but pick a clear day and make sure you have a cardigan. Weather was glorious, the location stunning and we cant wait to return for our next holiday.

The hill back to the apartments was quite daunting after a night out but we are getting on a bit and the younger members of our party found it no problem. We got into the habit of stopping off half way back at the Oui cafe (fabulous crepes, sweet and savour...

The hill back to the apartments was quite daunting after a night out but we are getting on a bit and the younger members of our party found it no problem. We got into the habit of stopping off half way back at the Oui cafe (fabulous crepes, sweet and savoury) for a nightcap and Francesca and Paulo couldnt have been more attentive. Breakfast there was good too and the bread shop has a great range, although a little expensive. Ricardo and his team at the Hotel Gardenia couldnt have been more helpful and even gave us a lift to the apartments and called in half way through our holiday to make sure we had everything we needed. All in all a good place to stay.

We had a lovely holiday at this hotel. The staff are, without exception, very friendly and helpful and it is in a most beautiful setting. The bedrooms are spacious and very clean, the towels being the only negative. They are typical italian towels which are more linen than cotton and the bath towels are pretty rough - you certainly won't need to exfoliate! These are only very small complaints because I can't fault any other things, I would certainly recomend this hotel to anyone.

The lakes are absolutely gorgeous and you could sit down by the lake for hours just watching the world go by!! We had pretty mixed weather but whenever we got the chance we were sitting down by the lake or walking along it. There were plenty trips to go on and also ferries from main part in Riva to other places along the lake. The centre of Riva was pretty bustling with lots of restaurants/shops etc. We did however feel a bit disappointed in the food, the pizza and pasta were fantastic as you would expect but would not say that any other food we ate was of a great standard. The 3 restaurants along by the Ambassador were however excellent and felt they were a lot better than the ones in the centre. If you are looking for a lot of nightlife then the lakes are not the place to go to.

The Ambassador Suite Hotel was a good 20 mins walk from the centre of Riva Del Garda. We had a 1 bedroom apartment, the bedroom and living area being very spacious. The bathroom was just the average although the kitchen was pretty small and basic. We nev...

The Ambassador Suite Hotel was a good 20 mins walk from the centre of Riva Del Garda. We had a 1 bedroom apartment, the bedroom and living area being very spacious. The bathroom was just the average although the kitchen was pretty small and basic. We never actually cooked in in the kitchen altough having the fridge was great. We did not feel that the apartment was as clean as we would have liked, although not dirty was only cleaned 3 times in the fortnight we were there and they ask you to clean the kitchen prior to departure. You also had to get rid of your own rubbish due to not being cleaned everyday. We did however have a fantastic view of the mountains! There was very little noise both during the day and evening in the hotel which was very good. The bar area was ok, was pretty quiet and only had a drink there a couple of nights as didn't seem to be that busy and also asked for a couple of different of types of drink which they advertised they had but actually did not. The pool area was pretty good and the jacuzzi was well used. All in all an ok hotel but would probably not go back to it.

If you turned left out of the complex at the roundabout, the tour pick up point was across the road at the bus stop (approximately 30 yards). To get down to the lake side you passed the bus stop and turned right to go through the car park, turn left at the bottom (turn right if you want a lovely (if a bit long) walk to Garda. Follow the path around to the right and it leads you to the lake side. Follow the path left and just keep going. It’s a lovely stroll to the harbour where a lot of the restaurants and the harbour is located. From here you can book lake tours and use the ferry to get to other places along the lake side. Check the ferry boat timetables. Pink timetable were the fast and the black were the slow ferries. Make sure they stopped at your destination before booking as they didn’t stop at all destinations! Supermarket The supermarket was a very long walk away from the apartments, approximately three quarters of a mile to the Christina and a mile to Lidl. For the deli, El Botegher (that the rep tells you about), turn right at the first round about. The deli is adjacent to the Sky TV shop. It sells bread, milk, ham, and water. Excursions. The Dolomites. A long day but well worth it. I was disappointed to be packed into the cable car so was unable to take any pictures on the way up or down. Plenty of opportunity to take photos when up on top though. Verona. Half day excursion. Beautiful city with a guided tour by coach then on foot before having some time to yourselves. Venice. Another long day and it is very hot and crowded. Go up the bell tower for amazing views of the city. Everyone must have their knees and shoulders covered if they wish to visit the Doges Palace or the Basillica. The queues are horrendous for these places so we didn’t waste time queueing. We walked to the Zeni Vini wine museum and shop. Get the details from the tourist information office. The museum only takes roughly 20 mins to half an hour to look around then you go into the shop area for help yourself wine tasting of some of the wines available to purchase.

Holiday Review Bardolino 2008

Verona airport. A small airport and very few toilets so try to ‘go’ before you land. That includes men to!

Germano Apartments type C (mid-range) Beautiful, fully equipped three room air conditioned apartment. Supplied with extras like wine glasses and bottle opener! Separate bathroom has a bath and a separate shower. Free Internet in hotel foyer. Maximum time limit 30 minutes. Buggies (like golfing carts) take you to your apartment with your luggage and you can book one back at the end of your stay to take you and your luggage to hotel foyer. Beautiful pool which has no shallow end but is the same depth throughout. I could stand up in it (I’m 5’ 5’’). There is a separate children’s pool. Free access to the indoor pool (which opens at 3.00pm) a Jacuzzi, a sauna and a fitness suite. I believe all these facilities were free but I have not tried them myself. There was a beauty parlour which I think did charge. The Panorama roof top bar is a must. Amazing views of the sun set while you sip wine/cocktails. Location. Across a road but don’t let that put you off as there was very little traffic noise at night. The complex was situated by a roundabout. You turned right at the roundabout coming from the town of Bardolino straight into the complex which had a person on security at night.
