"Hotel Berna review"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Very Good

I thought the Berna was very good value, and very clean. Rooms were a nice size, we had a lovely lake view and balcony. Towels and bedding changed every day. The only grouse I had was that the air-conditioning which was advertised in the Thomson brochure was not working. We then found out from another (regular) guest that it has not worked for at least two years! Luckily although the weather was beautiful, it was not so hot that it was a problem.

In spite of this, I would recommend this hotel as being good value for money, and the resort of Limone is lovely.

A week is long enough to spend there as it's quite small, but lots of other lovely places to visit by ferry if you want a change of scenery.

The hotel was excellent considering its rating was only 3 star. The rooms were newly refurbished, and spotlessly clean. Food was as expected, adequate but basic. Staff were charming and friendly. There is a pool bar with a pizzeria where you can get a very cheap lunch, also a good place for a snack or coffe is the Limonaia Hotel (just up the steps by the side of the pool bar, and turn left). Limone is a small but lovely resort - very quiet, but lots of nice little bars you can have a drink in the evening while gazing at the beautiful lake. A 10 minute walk down an incline from the hotel takes you into town. There were two open air concerts while we were there, one on the edge of the lake in town, and one in the park behind the hotel. These were free to all, and it was wonderful to listen to ( a mixture of Italian songs, and American standards)

I would recommend this hotel as being very good value.

The resort is predominately a German one, but this was no problem even though the World Cup was on - we all had a laugh together!

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday based in Limone on Lake Garda.

The hotel is not one of the best we have ever stayed in but after getting them to move us from the dreadful room in the unrefurbished block (only spent one night in that room) we were quite happy here. The new room was spacious with a big four piece bathroom, no lake view but we couldn't have endured another night in the 'broom cupboard' The food is perfectly adequate for a three star hotel, salad buffet to start, then waiter service for soup or pasta course, main course and sweet. We had free drinks with evening meal a choice of either a jug of wine, bottle of water, lager or soft drink. The sweet was a bit disappointing as it was ice cream every night. There was a choice of three or four things for each course and you made your selection the night before by ticking the menu.

We went on several excursions, Venice, Verona, Visit to a vineyard with wine tasting and a lake tour. We thoroughly enjoyed all the tours and the Page and Moy rep 'B' is excellent and a wonderful ambassador for the company. When we went to Venice she arranged everything, making a list of what everyone wanted to do and then telephoning ahead to arrange a 3 course lunch with a drink for 13 euros and negotiating a good price for the gondolas and lagoon tour. In Verona we had to use the official licensed guide who was excellent and 'B' still accompanied us because as she says 'I love to learn, she seemed inexhaustable even though she wore high heeled shoes for all the excursions!

The lake tour was another lovely day, first by coach stopping off at Bardolino and Sirmione where we had lunch and then by boat (about an hour) up to Salou for tea and ice cream before picking up the coach again, a magical day. We enjoyed going up Monte Baldo in the cable car and walking on the top ( a bit like Snowdonia) and there is a good restaurant on the top. Limone itself is a charming resort with little cobbled streets and lovely shops down by the lake and in the back streets. Can recommend the 'Hotel Le Palme' where we enjoyed a good lunch on the terrace overlooking the lake.

All in all a lovely holiday and we will definately return to Lake Garda again.
