The room in the hotel itself cannot be faulted. Ours was spacious and clean with daily attention from the chambermaids. The female staff at the hotel were most helpful, pleasant and friendly. The pool area was really good with enough sunbeds and umberellas for all.

However, this hotel is situated in a really awful area and as the evening entertainment was repetative, loud and all in Italian, we found our evenings monotonous. There really wasn't anywhere else for us to go as the stray dogs and groups of roudy youngsters who hung around outside the hotel intimidated us. The other guests at the hotel were charming but conversation over the noise of the entertainer was very difficult.

While we were there we saw piles and piles of rubbish at the side of the streets in the area. We were told that there was a strike by the refuse collecters. The smell was dreadful. The surrounding buildings were run down or deserted and there was a huge block of flats facing our room.

The food was not good. We enjoy Italian food and were disappointed by the cold and repetitive offerings of the chef. Food was often recycled but it was worrying that cold food was not laid out on a refrigerated surface and ";hot"; food was presented and dished up from large school- dinner type trays which were kept warm by candles underneath. It was not a wonder that everything ended up lukewarm. The dining room staff were sometimes curt and surly. The dining times were too short and because of the area, as previously mentioned, we felt we had no other options but to put up with it.

We shall avoid this part of Italy at all costs in the future. The natural beauty of this area has been spoiled by the ugly buildings and the lack of care of the locals. We were looking forward to a holiday with a good mix of excursions and beach relaxation with evenings spent visiting the area around the hotel. We felt like we were holed up at this hotel and cheated of any Italian charm.

Visted this hotel in Sept. 2005 and were very disappointed by almost every aspect. New Management had taken over this hotel in April of 2005 and perhaps are still coming to terms with things, but at that time there were problems with food which was generally of poor quality, served cold and very little choice, i.e. breakfast alternated between undercooked bacon with tomatoes, or Frankfurter sausages with chips.

The pool area was dirty so too were the tables and chairs in this area which was used at lunch time for the Pizzas which were cooked in that area. The indoor bar only opened half way through our holiday after complaints to the Manager were made, and using the outdoor pool bar was subject to serious mosquito attacks. However, all of these problems can be resolved if there is a will and investment in additional staff.

The rooms were generally ";tired"; in particular our room had virtually no hot water during our 2 week stay. There were a number of other plumbing problems in other rooms.

What cannot be resolved is the very run down area surrounding the hotel, despite assurances by Shearings and the hotelier that ";The Manager is talking to the local Mayor regarding this situation";. Within a square of approx. 400 mtrs. of the hotel there are semi-derelict flats, feral dogs and squalor.

The Shearings Rep. Vivien is the only redeeming feature of the whole package.

This is not a resort that cannot be recommended or of which Shearings can be proud.

The surrounding town is a mess. Shops are basic to say the least.The streets are filthy and the locals just drop everything on the pavements ug!
The beach is beautiful and if you like fishing and surfing this is perfect.
The hotel is trying to attract British tourism but need to try harder as all the signs including menu are in Italian as 90% of the clients were Italian.

We were dumped at the airport 4 hours before our flight as Shearings only wanted to put on 1 mini bus to take 3 different flights to the airport. Bus pick up was 3.15 and our flight was 7.55 we were bored and very tired. I will never travel with Shearings again.
The hotel have an entertainment crew who feel they have to make everyone join in ALL DAY. It was like Butlins in the sun. There is no entertainment for anyone within the age group 20 - 35 so look somewhere else this is not for you.
