"Rome"
Overall Resort Rating:
Everyone is right when they say you need a lifetime to explore all that Rome has to offer. Try venturing off the beaten track to discover the back streets of the Jewish ghetto, the view over the city from Piazza Garibaldi, the Italian families in the Borghese Gardens on a Sunday afternoon. Then plan your next trip !

"Rome"
Overall Resort Rating:
Everything you would expect in terms of culture, dining, entertainment and night life.
But...
We were originally told that there was no space in the Romantico Palace. Our room in the Veneto was of considerably lower standard than we were led to believe, with two single beds pushed together and a very small bathroom (there are other clear distinctions between the two hotels, including the prices quoted at the different Reception desks - as there are still two separate ones - and the fact that guests at the Veneto are not entitled to the roof-top breakfast - something that as guests who'd paid for a room in the Romantico Palace we had been promised through the website.
On the second morning, I complained again, and we were moved into the Romanico 'side' of the premises (contradicting what we were told previously) but still in a room of lower standard than the one advertised. After a further complaint, we were upgraded to a juinior suite and told that we would have to pay the difference (which was 30 euros an evening). Ultimately, I refused to pay the extra, and the hotel manager did agree to waive this.

"Great for Classic Buffs"
Overall Resort Rating:
If you like ruins scrambling or seeing classic sites then Rome is for you. Eating out is a pleasure, in four days here we never had a bad meal, ok they are relatively expensive but round about the same as a good London restaurant. On recommendation is avoid the hustlers around the Vatican trying to get you to pay 40 Euros to jump the queue and take their tour, the queues may look long but they move very quickly, it only took us 20 minutes to get inside and saved us 25 Euros (entry to the Vatican museum is 15 Euros). All in all very recommended for a long weekend

It was slightly chillier than we expected, but this was one of the better weekend break places we have visited. There really is a lot to do, we were a bit tired trying to fit it all in and we were there for 3 1/2 full days! Good job there are so many good coffee shops!

"Beautiful city..not so beautiful locals!"
Overall Resort Rating:
Ok, so the title is a little bit dramatic! Im sure all the locals arent the same. Rome is a beautiful city and there is so much to see and do, but be prepared to remortgage your home if your staying for more than a long weekend. My wife and i went for a long weekend and spent about £500 (and thats without buying anything for ourselves) are looking at the sharp end of 13-14 euros for two coffees and two pastries...but when in Rome....... Once you get over the price of everything you soon see that this is a beautiful place and you could spend literally all day walking around the twisting side streets.
To get back to the title of this review. The one thing that was really annoying me by the end of the long weekend was (some) of the locals. Be prepared to be looked up and down like you've no bum in your trousers unless you wearing the latest Gucci or prada clothes (and i was by no means dressed like a "tourist" or chav!). This really didnt bother me at the start but i was beginning to wonder how more romans didnt walk out in front of traffic as they spend so long looking at everyone else. This was just a wee small gripe and was the only reason i was glad to be heading home (apart from the fact my bank balance couldnt take anymore!)

"Amazing City"
Overall Resort Rating:
Rome is an ancient City and from the minute you step outside your hotel you can tell.
The sights are breathtaking and if you have never been before I would highly recommend paying a little extra for the guided tour of the Vatican city. it really brought it to life.
The food is excellent. you can eat reasonably cheaply but there are also some wonderful restaurants at the Barberini metro station (near the Trevi Fountain). They are expensive but worth it.
The only down side is the grafitti but if you can ignore that you will have a wonderful time.

Really enjoyed our visit to Rome. Some of the Vatican was closed off due to preperations for Christmas which was a shame, but still saw a lot of it. Loved the Roman forum.

"So much to see and do."
Overall Resort Rating:
I loved Rome. There was amazing amounts to see and do. Every few steps there was something else amazing to see. As well as all the ‘obvious’ stuff just everywhere and everything was fantastic. One criticism was that there are a lot of really touristy places to eat that looked like complete rip offs. We avoided anywhere that had tourist menus and did pretty well. The good thing is a lot of other things you will want to do are free. We got around by walking everywhere which was fantastic but do not forget to take a REALLY good pair of shoes.

"Lovely hotel Highly Recommend"
Overall Resort Rating:
Most of archaeological sites are within a walking distance. We even walked all the way to Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo in one morning. Via del Boschetto has very good restaurants (especially the one in the corner with Via Nationalle). Metro station (Cavour) is about 5 minutes away.

A really beautiful city but we weren't there nearly long enough. So much to see and do, and the weather at the end of September is fantastic - not too hot, but lovely and sunny. The food is amazing, but some restaurants seem to rip you off.
