Alghero is a lovely old town in the North of Sardinia. Our hotel was a 30 minute walk along a flat road to the old town (where we enjoyed wandering around the old walls.) The walk to town was perfectly acceptable for the fit, but as someone awaitng aback ...
Alghero is a lovely old town in the North of Sardinia. Our hotel was a 30 minute walk along a flat road to the old town (where we enjoyed wandering around the old walls.) The walk to town was perfectly acceptable for the fit, but as someone awaitng aback operation, after the 1st time, buying bus tickets from a tobacco kiosk seemed a good option. They cost 8 Euros for 12 tickets and we had a few left at the end of one week. The only disappointment was that we planned to take a boat ride and they didnt run that week as it was a bit windy. The Maria Pia beech backed by pine trees is lovely, and a 20 minute walk from La Playa. The Wed market was good fun too. The trip down to Bosa was good in spite of the rain and the included lunch excelent. we also got as train to Sassari, very easy and cheap and a lovely place to explore. Plenty to do in a week and I'd be happy to return and try the boat ride!!

We went to Alghero at the end of May, changing both date and hotel. The former due to my impending operation, the latter due to poor reviews of our original choice.We were so pleased we changed the hotel. The la Playa is a smll, friendly and family run hote...
