The hotel is located about 25 minutes from Cagliari airport in Sardinia, Italy. Just outside Quartu Sant Elena.
We arrived and out first impression were that it was a lovely hotel. It was as described on the Internet, on the Beach and very attractive. Staff were in abundance and very polite.
We went to explore to find that the hotel was all that was available in the vacinity. We walked along the beach and there was nothing. We went next door to the Marina (where you would normally expect to find a bit of activity) and found one bar with limited opening times (Fri, Sat and Sun). We had an excellent meal there but otherwise were tied to the hotel.
We asked if there were other areas to go for a meal. We were adised there was nothing other than going back to Cagliari - a cab costs e35 each way.
We decided to hire a car for 2 days - e200. We travelled east and found some lovely beaches - but nothing else - no bars, no life, no tourists, no children - which we found rather weird! We passed several empty playgrounds! We eventually found a very small bar on a lovely beach. Had a drink but did not feel like eating there. We passed many bars and restaurants that all appeared closed.
Not much traffic on the roads. Eventually found a restaurant in Quartu S. Elana. Again very good. Amazed how quiet it was.
The following dat we went to Oristano (West Coast)Good roads, quite clear. Went to the beach where there were lots of bars and only one open. Had a drink and moved on. There was a car bumper on the beach, a lot of rubbish and grafitti. The people looked grey.
Travelled back on the west coast going south. Tried to find a lovely cove or fishing port - but nothing. Found what appeard to be a neuclear power plant at the end of a very pretty approach - thinking that we were about to find what we had been looking for!
Had a picnic lunch on another deserted piece of coastline (Glad we took something with us) Got stopped by the Police at a random check point (lots of them)they waved us on when they realised we were stupid Brits unable to speak the language very well. Headlights are mandatory by the way at all times.
Got back to the hotel rather dissapointed. No shops other than the odd small supermaket in the area. Nothing really to buy unless you find one of the hypermarkets Carrefore or Auchan which is pot luck.
Can't fault the hotel. It was very clean, the food was good and staff were really helpful. Security guards at night - that makes you wonder!
Great holiday if you like staying at the same hotel. we were looking for a little more - maybe the odd bar or restaurant for a bit of variety. We enjoyed the rest and it was very relaxing. Very quiet for early May we thought and maybe Sardinia does not come to life until much later in the season.
