If your visit to Pisa is to see more than just the Tower then a stay at the Royal is highly recommended. Positioned next to the river the hotel is ideally placed to walk all around Pisa. Hotel itself is steeped in history and was built originally in the 10th century. The staff are very good, the rooms are excellent, the breakfast larger than normal (for continental style). There is a lovely roof top garden that has to be experienced during late afternoon evening. Staff will deliver drinks from the ground floor so it the ultimate in laziness. The hotel itself is worth exploring floor by floor for its treasures of furniture and fittings. Not to be missed by any keen photographer or historian is the large collection of photos in the lounge beside reception. Pictures of the Royal from early 1900 onward. The evening views of the hotel and adjoining buildings from the bridge is a treat at night but no less interesting in the day. Pisa has retained more of its history in its buildings than the likes of Florence where only 'historic' buildings seem untouched. In the adjoining small streets there are some great restaraunts where you can eat well without breaking the bank (unless you want to). Can not recommend this hotel highly enough especially as the 3 days we spent there was at a very very reasonable rate. Booked direct online and communicated via email with no problems.

Only went to Pisa and Florence. Did not see enough of the rest of Tuscany to comment. Will return one day to tour Tuscany
