Arrived at our hotel after very hectic but enjoyable 5 day safari, quite late into the evening but first impressions were very good of hotel and staff!!!made sure that a table was kept for us to have a meal as restaurant was just about to close.Rooms were fine, clean, functional and had everything that we required.

FOOD-couldn't complain, plenty of choice to cover both vegeterians and meat eaters.had theme evenings regards food which we enjoyed although gets bit repetitive second time around!!
STAFF-u could not find anybody any nicer than the kenyans from reception staff to the gardeners who always gave u a HELLO or JAMBO!!!!!!whenever they saw u!I feel that other peoples comments regards some waiting staff in restaurants personal hygeine are a bit harsh as we have to remember most of these people live in dire poverty and washing etc with what little water they do manage to get,may not be top of there agenda when u speak to some of them and they spend 2 hours walking to get to work, for the pittance that they earn!!!!!!i am sure most of us could forgive that for the few days that we spend there!
If u have any old tshirts, tops, shoes etc that u are not going to wear again please pass them on to any of your favourite staff out there they are so grateful even for your old magazines they can make do with!

BEACH BOYS-yes you do feel that u are bombarded with these boys trying to sell you there wares but make friends with a couple barter hard(they enjoy it)buy something small to take home, and then they do tend to leave you alone.Remember that we can spend a few pounds for something handcrafted personalised and to remember your holiday by,and that money helps them survive!!!!

My impression of Kenya is that it is an amazing country but is a very poverty stricken place but the people welcome you greatly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We stayed at the papillon reef lagoon hotel for 5 days begining of july after an 8 day safari, The holiday was booked through Hayes and Jarvis howeverit was actually RhinoTours that organised the holiday throughout.

Safari was exellent the accommodation was great exept for the lodge at Lake Nakuru which was badly in need of refurbishment.

On to Papillon Reef... the rooms were quite basic but there was a ceiling fan and air con which was good however the toilet overflowed everytime it was flushed this was reported on two occassions and was still leaking the day we left. It was so bad we had to use one of the hotel towels to soak up some of the water. NOT GOOD,it was then put out to dry on the balcony for repeat use. I ofcourse requested clean ones.

The food was very limited in choice but was ok, the beach is beautiful but use useable due t the presence of the beach boys who were more of a nuisance than the mosquitoes.Still the upside is there is no sun oils polluting the water. The bar that is used through the day is the pool bar and they use plastic beakers which are washed and reused this is so off putting as the rim of the beakers are very worn and thick ragged plastic is not the nicest to drink from. The only other think that really put me off is most of the waiters personal hygiene was very poor. I under stand these people are poor but when serving at tables the management should ensure that they at least bath daily the smell of persperation is really offputting.

We were asked to rate this hotel which was rated by the tour operator as 3 1/2 star but i wouldnt give it any thing above a 2 star thats being generous.
