We booked a water villa AI for 7 days at Blue Lagoon.
The water villas are very nice with four poster bed, lounge area, bathroom (with twin sinks), the toilet has no door and is at the side of the two sinks! The shower is just off the bathroom on the front of the water villa with a small window and is sunk slightly - it reminded me of the water troughs a little that you get before you step into public swimming pools to disinfect your fee!
Please note that if you book these water villas there is nowhere to sunbathe, except sunset beach at the top of the island (which is lovely by the way) but we thought that you may have a sunbathing area on your deck. There are two chairs and a table to relax on but these villas do not catch the sun where the deck is so you really have to sunbathe elsewhere. The beach villas are better in that respect as you can just walk out onto your own bit of beach. Our water villa shower (no 302) flooded everytime our semi detached neighbours had a shower and I can only assume that theirs did when we had a shower too. Beware the extremely large ants that like to roam around your bathroom, they are about the size of a fingernail and look extremely menacing!
With regard to the food and drink on AI, this could not be faulted. The restaurant was pleasant and got closed off from the elements if it was a windy or rainy day. Breakfast was always a buffet with lots of choice. The lunch and dinner alternated between buffet and table d'hote, so if you had a buffet lunch, you would get a table d'hote dinner and vice versa the next day which made a nice change. They rotate the menu every two weeks which is good to enable you not to get bored if you are there for a fortnight. Whilst we were there, we had Italian and Maldivian buffets which were lovely.
After our third night, we had a note pushed through our Water villa stating that there was an upgrade available to a suite in the cottage - there are only 2 of these on the whole island - and two couples could upgrade to these. We snapped it up as soon as the note came through the door and it was well worth it. These suites have a separate large bedroom, with dressing area off, lounge area with flatscreen TV (the only two in the rooms on the island), outside full bathroom with jacuzzi. We had our last four nights there which was fabulous, especially the outdoor jacuzzi being floodlit. It was weird though going to the toilet outside but it's amazing how you adapt!
We chose to dine at Blue Lagoon and tended to have our drinks there as we had got to know our waiter and bar staff but we were given the option to dine and drink at the Cottage club if we had wanted. To be honest, we needed the exercise after all the food and drink we had consumed.
Overall, a lovely island, lots of fish to see when snorkelling (AI are given equipment free) and the sunset cruise is really nice too.
Warning - 90 minute transfer by boat - if you have any problem at all with seasickness or even feel you might have a problem, DO NOT take the boat transfer. The sea was so rough and as we had a smallish boat, we actually caught air a few times - it was a very bumpy roller coaster ride and those that were sick were given a clear blue plastic bag, which was lovely for the rest of us! However, on the return journey, we had a much larger boat with airline style seats and it was a smoother journey but I think all the people who were ill on the outbound trip had decided against coming back on the boat and paid for a seaplane transfer.
NB - if you fly Emirates, and are returning to Dubai, you may well end up flying to Colombo (Sri Lanka) first to refuel, change crew and collect more passenders. You will end up staying on the plane for an hour before the plane refills, making your journey home approx 1 1/2 hours longer than expected.

The overwater bungalows are fantastic and kept beautifully clean and tidy by the room boy.
The staff in the bar area will not allow you to stand at the bar and order a drink. They memorise your name and room number and on most occasions what you like to drink. On top of that they are extremely plesant and always stop for a chat.
In the restaurant you will be allocated with you own waiter, who again is extremely helpful.
The island is beautiful with lots of vegetation and beaches and of course the all important spa - terrific if you want to pamper yourself.
The Blue Lagoon is the quietest part of the island (there are 2 other 'hotel bits').
Cant recommend this island highly enough.
The only down side is the travelling. The monarch flight there and back was awful - horribly cramped. The only good bit was stopping in Bahrain for refuelling when we were able to get off for a walk about. The speed boat trip to the island was worse again - very rough with the boat lifting out of the water at times. We took the seaplane back again which was a much more enjoyable experience.
You won't go wrong at Kuramathi!
