We have just returned from two weeks at vilamendhoo, and we are so glad to be home, its been a nightmare. We have been to two other islands in the past few years but vilamendhoo was so bad we may never return to the maldives.

First the flights with first choice, the new long haul planes were fine know problems, seats with the new extra leg room they were ok.Now vilamendhoo, we arrived on the wed lunch time, had lunch, everything luke warm or cold,as was thev food for the two weeks we stayed there. By friday morning my wife had to visit the doctor, over 40 mossie bites in 36hrs, by the end of the first week she had over 100 bites, and we took all the mossie stuff with us, plug-ins,sprays ect,

We wanted to be moved off the island, the rep never came to the island we had to call her by phone, she said there was know rooms eles were so we had to lump it. The staff are very freindly and work hard. Unless you are into diving big style keep away from here, there are hardly any places on the island where you can sun bathe and then find cover from the sun its one or the other. The island is not realy geared up for sun and sand lovers, just divers. The island is advertised as 4* but in my opinion it is hardly worth 3*.

Firstly, the seaplane ride, although very bumpy is fantastic. The view is out of this world, you get to see other islands and if you are lucky some dolphins which I did!
As soon as you arrive at the island you are greeted by the hotel receptionist and are given a lovely refreshing fruit cocktail. You are given a quick tour of the hotel and a bellboy takes you and your lugguage to your room where he gives you a quick tour of the facilities in your room.

Although our room was standard, it was clean and had all the basics you need. We had a balcony with a lovely view of the plantations in the middle of the island. Our room was cleaned every day and we were given a fresh jug of water each day and the opportuinity of ordering from the mini bar.

The island is amazing and scenic. You can ask for your sunloungers to be moved to any area of the beach you want and because it is not overcrowded, you can relax and sunbathe without being disturbed!
The sea is warm and the fish are amazing. We saw baby sharks, full-sized sharks and other fish and on the second evening we were there, we saw a skool of dolphins just outside the reef. Snorkeling in the maldives is a must due to the variety of sea life.

The food is the best I have ever had on holiday. We went on an all-inclusive basis and you had breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu each day was different and every meal-time you had a wide variety of food to choose from, from chicken curry to beef to chicken cordon bleu. The cocktails were also lovely. The restaurant was lovely and clean and you had the same table and waiter for the duration of your holiday.

There isnt really much in the way of nightly entertainment as this is more of a relaxing holiday however, I would recommend going to the sunset bar in the evenings. We went there every night and chilled and drank cocktails. One night were lucky enough to see a Manta ray and a medium sized shark swim right to the shoreline, now you dont see that everyday!

The staff were lovely and friendly. The night before we were leaving they decorated our dinner table and bed with flowers.

I absolutely loved this holiday and would recommend this island to anybody as I truly enjoyed my time there.

We arrived here on the 7th January after a week spent on the Atoll Explorer. We were greeted with the usual coconut drink (YUK) and were quickly taken to our bungalow. Had Deluxe Bungalow but think you would be just as well of in superior. Only a bit larger with closed bathroom and a hairdryer (Take your own. Island kept clean and tidy as was your accomodation. Food plentiful and varied every day and hot! Salad bar, grills. curries, fish, veggie stuff in fact everything you would possibly want. I am a very fussy eater and had no problem eating 3 meals a day. No stomach probs everything clean and the chefs spotless. Couple of bars and that's it for entertainment. Weather was a bit hit and miss but still very very hot and the rain was a bit of respite after the very hot sun - still went home with a very nice tan!! Sea Plane a great experience. Would I go back - probably but so many other islands to choose from why bother. Go and enjoy !!
