Following several earlier visits to various Maldivian resorts; Laguna Beach, Lohifushi and Reethi Beach twice, we decided on a week at Baros followed by a week at Anantara and this is how it went:
Flight:
This year we treated ourselves and travelled business class with Emirates. The service was excellent and the comfort rated very high, worth every last penny.
Resort:
We received a warm welcome on arrival together with a cool drink and towel, a common but pleasant feature in this part of the world it seems. Unfortunately there was a slight mix up over accommodation but once this was sorted the rest of the week went like a dream.
Accommodation:
We stayed in a Baros Villa, 214, which was large and airy with Flat Screen TV (if you want to use it), mini bar, tea/coffee tray and many other finishing touches. The verandah was given an air of privacy thanks to a rattan screen and with plenty of sunbed options we were happy to while away the time lazing around and making friends with the resident Crane who would stroll along the beach at regular intervals but was of no nuisance factor at all. (This is said by a girl with a bird phobia I might add)
Services:
The room service and cleaning was excellent, the bars and restaurants great, very relaxed with prompt service by otherwise unobstrusive staff. Girls...no need to dress up, well perhaps not quite bikinis for dinner but posh frocks not a requirement but fine if that is what you like best.
The snorkelling:
I don't snorkel much, but hubby does and seemed quite happy with what was on offer though he did say it wasn't the best he's seen in that region. Unfortunately, one of our early morning forays to the reef was interrupted by a fellow Brit who'd apparently got out of bed the wrong side and having decided that as it was low tidewe must be treading on the coral and proceeded to shout at the top of his voice and gesticulate wildly when in fact we were taking extreme care to pick our way around it, not on it!
Overall:
A wonderful week and an excellent resort which we were almost sorry to leave behind yet excited about reaching the next island resort. Would thoroughly recommend it as a place to visit.
