On arriving at Male Airport, we waited in the lounge area for our speedboat transfer which took about an hour (you can upgrade to a seaplane for approx. 120 US dollars). Arrived at Meeru Island feeling really tired, but soon woke up to the stunning views. A welcome team were waiting for us & took care of our baggage. We were all gathered in a bar area & given our room keys & wrist bands, then were escorted to our rooms. We stayed in a beach villa jacuzzi in the north end of the resort (adults only end). The room was stunning with a jacuzzi in a very secluded garden, with decked area. The partially outdoor bathroom was excellent - amazing to shower with lizards running around. The room was cleaned twice a day & during the evening clean (always while we were out) our bed sheets were always designed into patterns!! A 10 second walk took us straight out onto the best beach I have ever seen. The sea was warm & shallow with stingrays & baby sharks swimming right up to shore, & the snorkelling is stunning. There is a pool that looks out on to the beach & has waiters serving you all day. The spa over the water is beautiful - ultimate relaxation and reasonably priced - but book early as it fills up fast. There is another spa in the middle of the island but I didn't try that one. North island visitors eat buffet meals at the Maalan restaurant & drink in the Uthuru bar. You can eat inside or out & are allocated a waiter for your stay. The best buffet food I have ever tasted, such variety & choice. Uthuru is a chilled out bar & opens out on to the beach. The Asian Wok & Hagern Seafood restaurants are lovely & have set meals available at extra charge). The Asian Wok has a teppanyaki chef & the Hagern is an old docked boat & the food great here too. Other bars are available with pool tables, table tennis, big screen football & live music. These are available for everyone. All bars & restaurants are on sand â donât bother with shoes - no-one ever wears them! Did a trip over to the island next door to see how locals live - souvenirs much cheaper here, but remember to haggle! The best trip was the Robinson Crusoe island - left alone on a sandbank for about 4 hrs with a picnic & a little shade! Beer is Tiger and the local wine is ok! Disappointing that cocktails, ice creams and mini-bars are not included in the All Inclusive deal (cocktails & ice creams are about £4 each!)
Overall, a typical paradise island and perfect for honeymooners (like us) for a real getaway resort. Would definately go back!

We stayed on Meeru for our honeymoon in September 2007 and found the island was like paradise. The rooms were spotless, the room boy visited twice a day to clean and turn down the beds at the end of the day.The food was fantastic. Sometimes on all inclusives you are worried about the food but the choice here was huge and we never once found anything to complain about. We ate in the asian Wok twice and found the food here excellent as was the view.Highly recommend a visit. The spa over looking the sea was fantastic, we each had 3 treatments here. It was the most relaxing and beautiful holiday we have ever had. We were worried before we went that we may be bored but there was not one day when we found this, there was so much to see and everyday our 30 minute walk around the island gave us something else to look at. The wildlife we saw was out of this world. The staff could not do enough to make our stay special. Mohammed in the Dhoni bar was amazing, we certainly made a friend in him and have stayed in touch. The worst aprt of the holiday was leaving. I actaually thought i would shed a tear saying goodbye to this stunning island. If you choose Meeru you will not be disapointed.

We spent our honeymoon here and I must say my husband and I fell in love with it instantly. We stayed in land villa 255 which was a perfect location, a short walk away from the restaurant, although it only actually took about 35 minutes to walk around the entire island, absolute paradise! The underwater life was amazing, shark and stingray passing you as you paddle on the shore is not something you find just anywhere! Although I much prefered Egypt for snorkelling as the water was clearer.I must admit I was a little worried at first about joining the sharks for a swim but soon found out that they're more frightened of us and avoid us at all costs! Apart from a couple of downpours, the weather was just beautiful! You have your own sun loungers which are clearly numbered so no fighting!! Rooms were cleaned daily, kept absolutely spotless. Our roomboy decorated my our bed on my birthday especially with petals and palm leaves and flower heads! All of the staff here were great, made us feel really welcome. In fact I don't think I've ever meet such warm people. One night, as the bathrooms are open air, we had a unwelcome visitor in the shape of an eight legged hairy spider! It was the size of my hand! After picking myself up off the floor, I phoned reception, panicking!! Within minutes our roomboy was knocking on the door, can of powerful insect spray in hand, my saviour!!No sign of any other creepy crawlies for the rest of our stay, thank goodness! The food was amazing. There was something to suit everyone.Put it this way, I returned home slightly heavier than I left!! All freshly cooked and plenty of variety. The pool was very clean but I must admit we only visited it once, when you've got such lovely beaches and clear warm waters, who needs a pool?! We booked ourselves into the spa for a full body massage, OH WOW! I would definately recommend it. We enjoyed that much we went back for more! Was absolutely devastated the day we had to leave, had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the speedboat for our return journey! I would most definately recommend a visit to Meeru island. Out of this world!!.

Meeru is a very beautiful island with plenty to do and although the island was fully booked it felt like it was half empty.
The rooms are very high standard and have everything needed. We stayed in a Jacuzzi Water Villa for the first week which was one of the newly built ones (300's). We were almost at the end which was a long walk to get to the beach but the steps down into the water made it great for snorkling. BEWARE - being new the matress was very, very firm which was too uncomfortable for me so I did not sleep to well, also I found that the water crashing around under the villa a bit noisy. Our room did not have a DVD as it should have which never materialised despite mentioning it a few times. for the second week we stayed in a Jacuzzi Water Villa which again was a newly built one (100's) which was of the same standard as the previous room (although the matress was a bit more comfortable!)
All the Jacuzzi Land Villa's are on the west side of the island which is the best side for the powder soft beach and sunsets. The Land, Water and Jacuzzi Water Villa's are all on the east side which is better for snorkling although the beach is more eroded and has a lot of washed up coral. Most days we walked round the island which took around 45 minutes.
The food is very good buffet style 'all you can eat' with lots of choice. We went all inclusive however not everything is inclusive unlike Mexico, Carribean etc. The mini bar, room service, other restaurants on the island, selected drinks and drinks from the bar before 10:30am are not all inclusive. We did hear people complaining in reception when being hit with a bill at the end of their stay.
For everything else you need to know about Meeru look at meeruisland co uk and meeru com.
We would go back again but there are another 90 resort islands in the Maldives to try!
