Summer Island Reviews

a group of us were placed on this island when our plane was delayed for 55 hours in march 06.
we had spent 2 beautiful weks in velarveru where the staff, accomodation and everything was perfect.
what can i say about summer island except i am so pleased we did not have to spend more than 1 night there.
i was very ill after eating only a small evening meal
there were flies on the food so that should has alerted me but i was hungry after spening 2 days in male ariport.
the room was dirty and uncomfortable
while i appreciate we did have somewhere to sleep this would not be my choice of island in the maldives

The island was a real let down compared to other Maldavian islands, even the staff did not have the usual friendly helpful Maldavian attitude. The island was run down and often smelt of sewage, the rooms were damp with cockroaches. The food all tasted the same. To get anything done required a complaint to the rep and management.

The dive centre are absolutely wonderful and are trying hard to improve the practically non-existant house reef while providing top quality boat diving.

We had the best time at Summer island Village we hardly found a single fault. As we are a young couple we did not think we would fit in we thought it wuld be well off older couples but when we arrived we found that both staff and other holiday members were friendly and of all different walks of life.

Summer island is quite a small island and we found that by the end of the first week we knew practicaly every1 on the island. The island is also a very safe island we left our belonging on the beach almost everyday when we went for dinner and foung everything exactly where we left it. we have found since comming back that alot of people say to you when you come back from the maldives ";i wouldnt go there i would get bored"; but his is not the case there is so much to do and so many friendly people to talk to we even organised a friendly volleyball match with our waiters everyday.

One thing i would suggest however is investing in a water bungalow as the beach bungalows are partial open air and tend to have a few ants and also in the water bungalows you have a fridge and tv and sharks feeding underneath the glass window which the beach bungalows do not.

i can really recomend summer island having been to the maldives three times before
i was a little worried that this was only a three star island. i need not have worried it was excellent the staff the food the bar everything was fine. will go back again anytime.
