Qawra and Buggiba merge into one resort resulting in urban sprawl. No beaches and difficult to access the sea for swimming, lots of 'British pubs' and tourist shops. No pretty old buildings just modern, seemingly unrestricted, development of hotels, flats and apartments. Valetta and Medina worth a visit for old historic buidings and the old buses are a great experience, an excellent service and so cheap.

We love this resort. Lots of good restaurants and bars on the seafront. A lively square with loads of locals, who are very friendly and lovely people. Plenty of interest. Lots of boat trips, and buses to all over the island. Lots of atmosphere.

Bugibba is a quiet resort, with plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from although they are spread out a bit. We found it great for a weeks break. Our hotel was on the edge of Bugibba and Qawra so we had the choice of where to go.

Buggiba is great as a base for touring or if you want to sit drinking in English bars but has very little charm

Gozo is something else it is as if the hand of time has stopped ticking. A very quaint, tradtional island that has beautiful cobbled streets that wind round and round. A short ferry trip from malta gozo has something to offer to everyone.

Qawra review
"Not the busiest part of Malta"
resort to a friend
Qawra is a nice alternative if you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the northern resorts near Valetta. Certainly plenty of places to eat and drink. Novo Tours in Bugibba Square has many competitively priced trips - check them out before you book with your tour company. eg we had an escorted day trip to Gozo for E9.99 - with ferry cost and entry tickets it still only came to E22.
One tip. We asked a restaurant to get us a taxi back to our hotel. When it turned up it was a mini cab - no meter, and was blocking up the road so we jumped in. The trip was about a mile and the guy wanted E10 when we got there. There was a huge scene and he was threatening to call the police. We took the line of least resistance and paid up as the outcome was unpredictable and we did not want to spoil our holiday for such a small amount. However, the lesson is, if you get in a car and it does not have the meter on or there is no meter, agree a price at the outset.

The resort was nice if you wanted to just relax by the pool or by the beach as there was only one stretch of road where there were a few shops and restaraunts. If you wanted to go anywhere you could jump on a bus and for just 58 cents you could go all the way to Valletta if you wanted. (A 40 minute bus ride away). Mellieha was at the top of a hill and there were a few steps to climb here and there but all the same it was nice enough and the buses ran every 30 minutes or less so its not like you were trapped there! We did a couple of tours and went to visit Mdina which I would highly recommend if you are in to your history.

Sleima is an ideal base for a sightseeing holiday, a very short bus ride, and an even shorter ferry trip to the capital Valetta. If you are into shopping Sleima has all the shops that Valetta has. The harbour is lovely and lots of boat trips leave from here. A bit further along you can stroll along the long promenade, this will eventually take you to St. Julians.

First time in Malta and hopefully not the last - wonderful place and people. Can't wait to return. The pavements are uneven, the roads have potholes, but it all adds to the character of the island. The bus service is wonderful and you can get anywhere for a few cents. The churches are numerous but also breathtakingly beautiful.
