Malta is ideal if you like history and looking around. The are plenty of bars, some with a bit of entertainment, some with screens for football. If you want a beach though Mehlia bay is a better resort.

Having been to malta 3 times before, I knew the hotel was not going to be as good as other countries ie spain.
We were lucky Our room must have been one of the newly renovated ones. It was clean and had the towels changed every day. The ceiling fan...

Please note the above points reflect Bugibba only, not Malta as a whole. If you plan to stay in Bugibba for your whole holiday, prepare to be disappointed. There is no beach, only a long rocky coast with several ladders into the sea. The town looks like it was thrown together overnight and is very small with little history. We were shocked when we first arrived by how small and basic it was.
But it grew on us. The 'beach' is great if you like to snorkel. Wear shoes though - we spotted a few scorpion fish in the rocky sea. The best beach on the island isn't easliy accessable but does offer a very small sandy beach and the best snorkelling I've ever had in the med. I saw 2 octopus and 4 moray eels amoungst the multitude of colourful fish in the tiny bay. A bus runs to the general area but there is a 1km walk up and down hill to get there, followed by many stairs. Well worth it though. I will let you figure out the beach! I am reluctant to advertise this unspoilt bay.
History on the island is very diverse due to the many nationalities that have lived there. Buses are so cheap and easy to use, but get very busy in summer. Valetta is a must - the palace of the grand masters is stunning. Balconies are everywhere on the island. Mdina and Rabat are beautiful, quiet places with several good attractions. The catacoumbs are very good, as is the roman house. The Blue Lagoon is amazing (I thought I was going to see rocks but the water is so luminous blue its shocking!) Festas are common on the island in summer. Fireworks go off day and night during these religious celebrations and streets are decked out in colourful statues and cloth. Even if you are not a church person, visit at least one church (dress accordingly).
I would not rate the Maltese food very highly. We did find the best Greek restaraunt in the world in Xemixja (on the opposite side of St Pauls Bay) called Zeus. If you like Greek food this place is a must! The stifado and mousakka were to die for! But don't walk back to Bugibba like we did - it was a tad further than we thought!
When we first arrived in Malta we thought we would be bored stiff after our 2 weeks - we arrived home knackered and never got it all done! Well worth a visit but choose your hotel wisely.
Unfortunatley for us, we couldn't find a review for the 'St Pauls Bay Hotel' we were planning to visit so we chanced it and booked anyway. When we arrived we discovered that the complex also had the alternative name of Bugibba Holiday Complex. Reading the r...
Reading the reviews of this hotel spoilt my flight as I was so worried about the hotel, all to no avail so ignore all the bad reviews.
On arrival we were allocated two double rooms but had booked a family room. The Manager was wonderful and as ther...
