We had a great holiday, we upgraded our room when we arrived to over look the sea the balcony was very large. They greeted us with a welcome drink, all staff very helpful, room cleaned every day clean towels also. Nice sandy beach but locals take over at the week end because not many beaches in Malta. The only thing I did not like was that the children seemed to take over the bowling, snooker tables and the bar. no where to go of an evening.

Other: We hired a Jeep from "Aquareous" for the two weeks pre-booked via internet. I tried to ensure the rate was all inclusive (except fuel) so all CDW's etc were included. In the end they tried to offer me windscreen amd punctures insurance as an extra but I declined and fortunately had neither a puncture or brocken screen. The jeep was very old but 100% reliable for our stay and worth every penny! No secure place to lock up anything but as we take our kit with us no problem.

You will never visit all the places to see on Malta in two weeks. The island has a wonderfully varied history and going back there after a twenty year break well worth it.

The Hotel is on the "lonely" side of the Bay so not really in a resort as such although the Public Beach is extremely popular with the locals and late teens may have some fun down there if let loose!

As all the nightlife is a long walk or taxi ride away amd since the Hotel nightlife was so poor during our stay this is a significant failing and may affect your choice for what is otherwise a good hotel overall. (Would be very good with decent nightlife!)

We spent two weeks at the Hotel and overall would say it is good but not great. The air conditioned room was clean and functional complete with a small fridge to keep our "imported" bottles cool.

We spent two weeks at the Hotel and overall would say it is good but not great. The air conditioned room was clean and functional complete with a small fridge to keep our "imported" bottles cool.

Food: Breakfast always the same choices and actually this was fine. Evening meals had a variety of Main courses each evening and I thought very good except for a couple of evenings when the food was simply not hot enough. We always took our meals as soon as the restuarant opened and this worked well during our stay.

Drink: A bit expensive and why we used our room fridge some of the time! A handy beach bar for getting drinks in the day. Pools likewise had local bars.

Beach: Excellent and clean but get there early for a sunbed as space is quiet limited. Safe swimming and sand all the way to wade out into the sea.

Entertainment: Very poor in my opinion, and a major let down as the hotel is not near local nightlife. If you fancing going out for a stroll there is another bar nearby down by the Main public beach but not really much better then the Hotel. The hotels own Limelight bar that looked as if it could create some atmosphere was closed for most of our stay leaving just a pool bar and the reception area bar open in the evening, both lack any atmosphere.

Staff: A mixed bunch, mostly friendly but just one or two that let their side down.

We would not use again simply because we like to visit the neighbourhood in the evenings and the only way to do that would be to drive, and I did not do that because I like a drink in the evenings and will not drink and drive. Otherwise a taxi may do but thats a pain to organise.

Watersports: Plenty on hand at the hotel so you can dive, sail or windsurf. I windsurf in the UK and can say the kit they have is OK for learners only.

Mellieha Bay is a quieter resort although it still has some nice bars and restaurant. If you want a busier nightlife it is only a short taxi or bus ride to St Julians Cape Ville. There are lots of things to see and do and many boat trips to go on. The weather was out of this world and we didnt see a cloud in the sky in all 14 days. We had children with us in our group ranging from ages 2 - 15 and they all enjoyed it as there is plenty for them to do on a day. Excellent!

My partner and I have just arrived back from Malta staying at the Riu Seabank hotel, it was fabulous!! we couldn't have asked for more. The staff couldn't be more helpful and it was extremely clean. There was 28 of us that stayed there as my friend was getting married there and we had the best time ever. Even on the wedding day when i had a disaster with my dress the maids were on hand to help out and everyone was so friendly. The Animation staff kept us all entertained all day with different activities - from pool Volleyball to ping pong to darts!! all to include the children too. but left you alone if you just wanted to relax. We will definitely visit again in the near future! We highly recommend this hotel. :)

Beware the security at this resort Hotel and Timeshare apartments leaves a lot to be desired, we have just returned from this location following the break in and theft from one of the outlying timeshare apartments, they are only protected by a shabby chain link fence which has now been botched repaired again, outsiders can come onto the complex and in the dark on the outskirts break in through the flimsy patio doors and steal your belongings, apart from the fence there are no other security measures in force as security patrols do not go around into this area, nor are there any other devices to warn of intruders at the outskirts in the area of the outlying apartments. As a Four Star Hotel it is showing signs of age and looking shabby in some areas, it should be reduced to 3 star rating in my opinion, the rooms in the hotel are superior to the apartments, unfortunately we did not object sufficiently to being put out into the apartments as the hotel was full on our arrival, having paid extra for sea views and a balcony on 2 hotel rooms, this led to some of our family members having personal items stolen from a poor substitution of a hotel room , one nightmare holiday we would not wish to repeat. Be Warned !!!!

This resort has the only beach on Malta that's worth really going to. Nice soft sand and shallow water so you can let the kids play in the sea. Watch out for the kite surfers though.

Watch the bus drivers as they will rip you off if they get the chance. We never got the right change once. And when we gave the right change we were given tickets that were cheaper and he kept the difference. Also had one occasion when the driver started sending a text on his mobile while we were hurtling down narrow streets at 40 mph. I have photos!!!

But saying that there are plenty of buses and you can get literaly anywhere on the island by bus.

Lots of water sports in the area too, but a bit pricey.

All in all, a nice area if you want a nice quiet holiday with a few things to see and do.

Went last week (end of April 2008) for a week and had a great time. The staff were very friendly. Even the garden staff had a smile as they were sweeping the paths every morning. Reception staff were a bit rushed at times but never rude. Only one or two waiters in the dining room were a bit grumpy, but they still did thier job well enough.

The pools were lovely, very clean, and there were lots of sun loungers. The private beach is very small, but the gardeners work hard to clean the sand every morning.

The food was top notch for a buffet. Plenty of variety. Each day had a different main course and pudding with salad and cheese and biscuits. I have to admit that it would get a bit tired after a couple of weeks, but it was always tasty.

Andy, the Thompson rep was great. Always availabe to help.

Try the fruit and veg man down by the bus stop. Very good prices for bottled water and stuff compared to the hotel.

Also, go on the English Rose boat trip to comino and gozo. The caves are beautiful and the waters in the lagoons is so clear that fish can be seen like they are in a fish tank. It leaves from the other side of the main beach at 11 am every day, but the boat arrives at 9:30am and you need to get there early to be sure to get a place.

The beds were comfy, but the air-con was not on and the the room was 26C at night. Just the fan of the air con-worked, perhaps they only turn on the air-con in the height of summer. Also the TV was badly tuned. These are the reasons for lower room comfort scores.

Hope you have a good time.

Second time back here. Hotel decor has been updated, although some improvements could still be made. Hotel is kept clean, bedrooms serviced daily. Food has definitely improved, also with the addition of a barbeque served most evenings. Staff are always pleasant and friendly. Kids Club staff are brilliant. Did a number of trips. Beach Barbeque at little Armelia Bay which was super. Swimming with Dolphins - this is a must and we all thoroughly enjoyed it ! Wasn't so impressed with the Malta by Night trip though. However, enjoyed the rest of the Holiday.

The rooms in the Luna were basic, but comfortable and were cleaned every other day, along with a change of towels and bed linen.
The reception area and pool area's were spotless and well looked after; and there were always sunbed's available. (There were still some selfish people 'reserving' sunbed's with towels, although one day I saw a stack of towels behind reception, so they must have been taken off).
The food was not that good, and after having two meals in the hotel we ate out for the rest of time. Try the Latino restaurant at the Tunny Net Complex, approx 100 metre's down the road, a meal for 4 was approx £30, or for a more upmarket, and excellent, meal visit the Bouquet Garni restaurant in Mellieha, this is a 15-20 minute walk up a fairly steep hill, but for the unfit/lazy you can catch a bus from near the hotel, into Mellieha, a meal for 4 here cost £60 but was worth the extra as a one-off.
The entertainment at the hotel was karaoke and singers singing 'YMCA' and 'Aga Do' etc, fine if thats your thing, but for a more relaxing night a visit to the 'lounge bar' at the Tunny Net complex sitting on wicker setee's overlooking the bay was far more to our liking.

The beach at Mellieha bay was packed, especially at weekends, when the locals came to visit, but it was peak season and to be expected.
If you like, or wish to try SCUBA diving, Aquaventure diving have an office at this hotel, but are based at the other side of the bay. Each day they will pick you up and drop you off and take you on some great dives, the set-up is good and they are well organized.
The air temperature was 32c during the day, and the water was 26c...great for diving.

Mellieha bay is not lively at night, so if its night life you are after, try somewhere else.
Malta has some very historic sites and is well worth a visit.
