We took a late booking in unallocated accommodation for 1 week only so Malta seemed a good choice having a fairly short flight time. Having never holidayed in Malta before we were unsure of what to expect.
The hotel itself was superb - we stayed in the newer rooms which are over the road but accessed by a tunnel - quite exciting at first but a chore if you forget something for the roof pool on the other side. The food was good - nice choice each evening and excellent variety throughout the week.
The hotel was spotlessly clean, staff welcoming and friendly, and room very impressive - minimalist and even a plasma screen TV on the wall. Free safety deposit box, air conditioning and a mini bar which we had far more from than they charged us for! Indoor hot pool and a choice of roof pool and ground floor pool are excellent. The location though is a different matter. A 20 minute stroll down hill to the beach is ok but coming back it maybe better to wait for the bus. Nightlife is quiet to say the least - one decent bar and that is only 'lively' on a Sunday when a live musician plays. If you want a half decent night life take a taxi into Bugibba for a wider choce of bars - but be prepared for a £25 round trip in fares! Bus trips are ok during the day (buses don't run at night) - we went to Bugibba and Sliema and took a boat harbour tour of Valetta. We enjoyed the stay as it was for only 7 days - any longer and I think we would have become VERY bored. Drinks are not cheap and as we stayed half board we can't comment on the price of eating out.
Not sure if we would ever return to Malta - but at the end of the day its hot and a lot cheaper than staying in unpredicatable UK for your holidays.
