La Luna Apartments Reviews

The rooms in the Luna were basic, but comfortable and were cleaned every other day, along with a change of towels and bed linen.
The reception area and pool area's were spotless and well looked after; and there were always sunbed's available. (There were still some selfish people 'reserving' sunbed's with towels, although one day I saw a stack of towels behind reception, so they must have been taken off).
The food was not that good, and after having two meals in the hotel we ate out for the rest of time. Try the Latino restaurant at the Tunny Net Complex, approx 100 metre's down the road, a meal for 4 was approx £30, or for a more upmarket, and excellent, meal visit the Bouquet Garni restaurant in Mellieha, this is a 15-20 minute walk up a fairly steep hill, but for the unfit/lazy you can catch a bus from near the hotel, into Mellieha, a meal for 4 here cost £60 but was worth the extra as a one-off.
The entertainment at the hotel was karaoke and singers singing 'YMCA' and 'Aga Do' etc, fine if thats your thing, but for a more relaxing night a visit to the 'lounge bar' at the Tunny Net complex sitting on wicker setee's overlooking the bay was far more to our liking.

The beach at Mellieha bay was packed, especially at weekends, when the locals came to visit, but it was peak season and to be expected.
If you like, or wish to try SCUBA diving, Aquaventure diving have an office at this hotel, but are based at the other side of the bay. Each day they will pick you up and drop you off and take you on some great dives, the set-up is good and they are well organized.
The air temperature was 32c during the day, and the water was 26c...great for diving.

Mellieha bay is not lively at night, so if its night life you are after, try somewhere else.
Malta has some very historic sites and is well worth a visit.

This hotel was so bad that we moved on the second day and would have moved quicker only it was a Sunday and the tour operator's office was closed.

Don't be fooled by the impressive foyer to the hotel - the rooms are a throwback to the 1970s and the standard is very poor. It is supposedly 3 star but that is a joke. Our shower didn't work, the walls were dirty, the bed was very uncomfortable and the whole place was depressing. Fortunately, we transferred (at great expense)to the Mellieha Bay Hotel which was much, much better.

The resort itself is really a non entity and there is not much to do. To get to Valetta takes over an hour on the bus (service very regular but stops early in evening)so it is a bit isolated. The best thing about Mellieha Bay is that it is close to the ferry for Gozo which is really another world away and wonderful compared to Malta!

I would go back to Valetta and to Gozo but not to Malta - it is mostly just ugly, concrete urban sprawl.

On the plus side, drink is cheap and the people are incredibly friendly and helpful. If you are under 60 years old then don't go to Mellieha Bay as it is full of pensioners.

Have just returned from the Luna. Had a good - but very hot week!!

The Luna is about 10 mins walk from the sandy beach of Mellieha, however it is about half an hours walk up a very steep hill to the village, we took the bus up and walked down!

We booked a standard two bedroomed apartment (S/C), the brochure stated that there were lifts to every floor, and that Air Conditioning was available at an extra charge, however when we we arrived the appartment was situated out of the back of the hotel, past the rubbish bins (smelly in summer!)in an annexe with no lift, and six flights of stairs to climb. There were two desk fans to cool the rooms....and the temperature was 35c. We went back to reception and spoke to the manager who was marvellous, we had to spend one night in the room then he transferred us to two superior apatments with air conditioning...and didn't charge anything extra! Considering the mix up was due to the tour operators lack of info ( even the rep didn't know there was an annexe!!) it was very good of him.
The staff were very friendly, the bar service was good, and the food was good. We upgraded to half board and found the food OK, especially the speciality nights when its served outside, also much cheaper to upgrade there than to do it here before you go .....we saved about £50.
The pools are nice, the usual problems with people bagging sunbeds and going off for the day, but you get that every where!

If you are going to Malta and staying at the Luna make sure you get air con, you will need it!!
The beach does get crowded, and towards the end of the day also gets mucky, but it is cleaned early in the morning (we saw it being done) and is worth going to, esp for little ones as the water is very warm and shallow.
Take high factor sunscreen though, I took factor 25 but had to buy factor 40, saw some people who were very red and sore.

All in all the Luna was a very good hotel.

Have just arrived back today from a 2 week trip to Malta. Stayed at the Luna Complex in Mellieha Bay.

The accommodation was average - we had no air conditioning which meant we were sleeping in a room with an average temperature of 30 degrees at night, so we had to sleep with the balcony doors open. We had a view over the countryside, which was lovely at night, there is a church at the top of the hill which was lit up and looked stunning.

The rooms with sea views were at the back of the complex. The sea view rooms were all situated above the pool area which meant you would be bombarded with the hotel entertainment at night whethere you wanted it or not. The entertainment was lacklustre in our opinion.

We were self catering and found that we spent no more than 850 pounds for the whole two weeks, including numerous trips that we went on. The Maltese are very friendly, even offering their laps to our children to sit on when we caught the bus (which was very cheap, frequent, but usually busy). The bay is situated at the bottom of a very steep hill which we always used a bus to get up, into the Village which had several bars, restaurants and banks if you needed to draw out money from a ATM. We would walk back down the hill at night. Look ut for a fantastic chinese restaurant next to the 5 star hotel on your left when travelling up the hill. Also have a look in the War Shelters in the Village and there is a large playpark for children in the village which we found deserted in the day.

Walking back down the hill next to the church is a lttle cafe that served snacks and drinks - well worth stopping for a breather and taking in the stunning views across the whole restor - you can even see the ferries travelling to and from GOZO from there, We recommend English Rose Cruises rather than Captain Morgan if you want to go on some lovely boat rides. They cost 9 lira for 4 of us and lasted from 11am to 5 pm. And they did not sting you for food and drinks when you were on board either. Talking of stings, be aware that there are plenty of jellyfish in the sea, which is lovely and shallow for children to splash about in, just scout the sea first. I was stung on my first day and it was very painful, althought (I didn't realise this at the time) if you tell one of the locals bars, restaurants they will treat the sting with vinegar which alleviates the pain.

The beach was often crowded but again everyone was friendly. We loved walking alone the beach at night and watching the locals with their barbecues and extended families chatting and drinking. It was nice to feel caught up in the local way of life. We visted Valletta by bus (A must see) and M'Dina - the silent City. We ventured into Buggiba one day - what a nightmare - like Blackpool but with sun (and timeshare touts everywhere that just would not leave you alone). It would have been my idea of hell staying at that resort for a fortnight.

We visited the Tunny Net restaurant and was very disappointed. We waited over an hour for our food to arrive and when it did, it was either cold, overcooked or stale - we do not recommend that place. The Riviera Blue restaurant just up from the Luna headinging toards the Village was lovely, and we spent a lot of time in a very large complex across the road from the beach called Jungle Park - be aware that the portions are HUGE, we ordered salads as starters and honestly thought that had mistaken them for main courses, we couldn't eat it all - and very reasonably priced too. There is a play area for children there and also we went bowling in there a couple of times - great fun and air conditioned too which was a blessing on a very hot day!

The weather was very very hot, 109 most days, but if you are by the seas it is not to bad, the wind cools you down. Went to Popeys Village which was disappointing - try and get discounted tickets through your rep if you can, you will save a fourtune (which we didn't find out until after). And until the end of September each Village has a Festa at the weekend which is an absolute must see - we have never seen firework displays like it and if you go inside the church of the village which is all lit up you will be amazed at how beautiful the Maltese keep their churches.

There is so much that I could rave on about, the Bay is fantastic and there are things to do if you have the presence of mind to do them. The Maltese are lovely people and we will go back - probably in a few years time when the children are older, but to a different resort as we never visit the same resort twice.

We stayed at the Luna Complex for one week and found it was lovely. We had a recently refurbished Superior Studio - plenty big enough for the 3 of us. It's worth paying that little bit extra for air conditioning! We asked for a quiet studio and were given one overlooking the sea and the houses of locals. There was no road below us and it was so quiet it was unbelievable! The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.

We only had one problem - my daughter slipped on a wet floor that had just been mopped and there were no ";Wet Floor"; signs. We reported this to reception who were very apologetic and got onto the housekeeper immediately. A car is useful as the hotel is at the bottom of a very steep hill into the village, but there is a bus stop right outside the complex. Pools were ok, if a little on the small side. The complex food is not up to much. Try the Fruit de Mer restaurant just next door for a great meal, fantastic presentation and service; not cheap but not overpriced either. If you want diving, visit ";Meldives"; on the seafront. He was brilliant and very professional. He comes highly recommended. If you go to Bugibba try the Argentinian Steak House on Priory Road for great steaks!

Overall we had a great holiday and are thinking of returning next year.

Just spent two weeks in Malta and had a fantastic time!

The resort itself is quite quiet, only a few shops and restaurants and the shops close between 8.30pm and 9.00pm. There's a fantastic selection of restaurants but a word of advice, try the smaller family run places the food is fantastic and the portion sizes are massive! Our favourite was Zeffuiro...the food was absolutely amazing!

The apartments were really nice. The public areas were excellent: clean, newly renovated and there was always more than enough sunbeds and umberellas to go around. Our room was nice, it needed a bit of a facelift but everything was clean and useable (bear in mind that the complex in the process of being newly renovated, so we just happened to get an old room from what I heard the newly decorated rooms are fabulous). The maid service is every 3 days and very thorough. The only problem we had was that the towels and the sheets were a little old and therefore had various stains and marks on them - I don't doubt they were clean but it was a bit off putting.

There was nightly entertainment at the hotel which mainly comprised on Kareoke nights, singers and the occasional dancer. The effort was appreciated but it wasn't exactly what I would call entertainment!

The staff at the complex aren't exactly what you would call friendly however. They do do everything you ask but its usually with a straight face and not much in the way of personality! But you can't have everything!

Also be aware of the location of the hotel. The wording of the brochure is a little misleading and the complex is at the bottom of a very large hill. Unless you want to catch the bus every night or walk up a mountain you'll definately need a car.

We rented a car for three days and it is definately worth it. Malta has some amazing things to see and the town of Mdina is an absolute must. A word of advice - we know the official line is that you should go with the tour operators recommendation of Avis regarding car hire but we found that it was ridiculous prices for the cars you were getting. We went with a smallish company called Drifter in the town and got a class B car for half the price of Avis.

We personally didn't go on any of the trips as we found they were expensive and as we were getting a car we visited the places we wanted to see anyway.

Malta isn't a place for beaches but Mellieah has the only sandy beach on the Island. It isn't massive and it does get really busy but the water is lovely and shallow for quite some way and is safe for children.

I wouldn't bring children to Malta, there didn't appear to be much to do (apart from the highly commercial Popeye Village which we avoided like the plague), and the children I did see appeared quite bored most of the time!

I would definately go back to Malta again, the weather was fantastic, Mellieah was a nice place to stay and the Luna apartments exactly what it says in the brochure really! I would stay there again.

We have just returned from two weeks in Malta and must say that this is a place that I would not return to. Its not that the place was rubbish but we found that there was not much to do - we like to explore places and Mellieha itself is a little boring.

I cannot fault the Luna we had maid service twice a week and they were very thorough. The entertainment and staff at the Luna are excellent and could not be faulted.

We hired a car for 7 days and visted lots of places and we thought Popeye village was fantastic and really enjoyed the day spent there.

One word of warning, we had a bad experience with a hire car from Drifter car hire in Mellieha, the brakes failed on the car coming down the steep hills of Mellieha. They basically said that we were driving wrong !!!!!!!!!

In conclusion would not go back to Malta bascially because we found it a little borning.

After being to Malta twice before and going to the same apartments, we thought that we would have a change, hence the La Luna Apartments... Well we arrived there at just after dinner,booked in and got our keys to the room....Looked nice in the reception, so thought oh so far so good..

Got taken to our room. We asked for a sea view, so after going down 1 flight of stairs and past the La Luna dustbins, which nearly made us throw up.our apartment which was at the back. then up another flight of stairs to actually get to the apartment..The apartment was not upto the standard we expected, yes we had a sea-view between the houses infront of us and it was ok if you didn't look down at all the rubble... We then opened the balcony and we were then inundated with flys. I suppose if you didnt have a child of 1 year then the stairs wouldnt of been a problem, but we were tired after our journey and having to get him up and down the stairs in the pram with all the baggage was a pain..Also on the balcony if you can call it that there was only just enough room for 2 chairs and there was also a gas bottle which fed the gas to our apartment which with a 1 year old who is into everything is not good..... On to the rep and the hotel manager who i must admit did try to accomdate us in another room but it was still just as bad. the bedding didnt look clean the chairs round the table were giving way when you sat on them and the room smelt of rubbish what more can i say..Apart from the manager was good and so was the rep..

So we decided to pay to get moved to another hotel, which cost 50 quid in english money. We had to stay there the night as they couldnt move us the same day, went to bed at night only to have to listen to the film of the evening on big screen XXX as the big screen was directly on the wall that our beds were on. not much sleep that night...Went to meet the rep and ended up talking to another family they werent happy either and the flies seemed to be a problem in the lounge area too as we had a drink and the flies were all over our glasses... yippeee we moved that day at 6.30pm but had to get our own transport but we didnt care as we were going....went to ST Georges Park paceville St Julians.better oh yes by miles we thought.. put a review for that too

Landed at luna after 3 hour delay at manchester at 1.30am very impressed at first sight.rooms very basic but ok could have done with a settee but we managed.beautiful sea view,especially from rooftop where the pool is.we went sc as eating out is cheap we found blue waters where manuel,rita and girls fed us most nights they are lovely people.staff at luna are really nice and helped me book a trip to swim with dolphins which my kids thought was fantastic!cost me a fortune buy never mind.went on trip on ferry to cozo which was lovely.

the weather was beautiful for october to hot to do much sight seeing.went to lovely pub reflections where the food was gorgeous and singer paul saturday night only was very good.the people in malta are very friendly and the buses are unbelievable but very cheap to go on.

malta is a lovely place and i felt very safe,i cannot wait to go next year.there wasn't very much for my teenagers to do but other than that it was lovely.the airpot at malta is lovely but we had 2 hour delay going home,we went for 2 weeks but 2 days of that was spent travelling as we where delayed going and coming home.we where given vouchers at manchester but it cost me 18 pound for four sandwiches at manchester airport!!!I was told it was vat on salad what did i expect.
