Now for the bad bits - we were attending a wedding in Malta so wanted something cheap and basic, yes it was cheap (£100 for the week) but the accomodation was pretty awful. Room stiflingly hot, (hotter inside than out in July). Pool was tiny and murky. Kitchen and bathroom ancient, stench of rotting eggs every time you ran a tap (made showering very unpleasant). Worst aspect was building site next door, the noise was unbearably loud.
You are provided with a fan, but step outside of its range and the heat is unbearable. Yes there is a fridge, but cooking facilities are so old and accom so horrid you would not want to eat a meal or spend any time there.
Luckily for us we went away in a group and our friends stayed at other hotels, so we were able to escape to their hotels during the day.
Had it just been the 2 of us on a regular holiday we would have checked out.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Malta is nice, the buses are very cool but don't go for more than a week. (and go to le meridian or the hilton, not dorirose!)

Great holiday just over £100 for a week in july not the ritz, but cleaned and beds made every day + large balcony patio set + 2 sun loungers sun all day if overlooking pools, but this was a top floor apt could be classed as same level as UK holiday flat could be little painted up, but for the price good value! . tv, desk fan, fridge, also near qawra bus station to get about the island cheaply

the people are without doubt some of the most friendly you are ever likely to meet. it was said to us on our first visit that we would either 'love or hate' Malta and we can fully understand why. but as we have said we 'love' the Maltese islands, don't be put of by the lack of sandy beaches, as we have found some gorgeous sandy bays with lovely clear blue water to swim in, such as melliha bay and paradise bay.over the years we have stayed in some lovely hotels ie: Hotel Santana-Qawra and we have also paid next to nothing for a last minute deal, so this being the case you expect basic and as long as it is a clean basic we don't mind! but it was to our experience last week when we arrived at the Dorirose Apts that absoloutly beggared belief!
we would strongly recomend anyone not to pay any price to stay at the filthy dirty Dorirose. on arrival we were cleverly taken through the adjoining Canifor hotel which was on first sight a nice hotel, (although the following day on closer inspection it was in no way a 4 star!)there was 2 adults 1 teenager and 10yr old twins in our party and no way was the room anything like big enough, the apt was disgustingly dirty, fans were a health and safety risk as was the grimy bath and toilet. needless to say we did not unpack, but spent an incredibly uncomfortable and stiffling night on the filthy beds in the apt.
the following day we were due to meet our rep, and was she going to get an earfull or what!!there were two other couples who were also demanding to be moved from the complex, one of which was a honeymoon couple staying in the supposedly 4 star Canifor HoteL! we have to say that med hotels rep- was possibly the most helpful rep we have ever met and she worked dilligently to help all those wishing to move from this 'flea pit' of a complex. we actually declined an offer of rooms to stay at the canifor hotel as we felt put off by any affiliation with the Dorirose apts. luckily because we know the area so well we found and rented a private apartment which was the opposite end of the spectrum to the digusting Dorirose and we had a wonderful holiday with our children.
it has not put us off returning to Malta as we just love the island and it's people, we would recomend a visit to Diana's bar in Qawara the food is lovely and great value, it is a family run pub and all the staff without exception are so friendly, please give malta a try but do not book for the Dorirose, we are certain that one day we will see it on ITV'S 'Holidays from Hell!'
For starters, I think I must have picked the worst week of the year to visit the beautiful island of Malta. Thunderstorms and floods all week, powercuts and getting very wet!! Then we got the earthquake - a backlash from Italy, I believe.

But please dont be put off, the people from this country are fab- if you are a lady on your own have no fears , safe as houses. They look after all visiters really well.
The country is beautiful and so small that you can see it by bus in a week-check the old Leyland buses-wicked!
The Dorirose appartments are not for those with upmarket ideas. They provide basic comfy accommodation with everything you need including friendly staff. All Malta`s public premises are non smoking - so you have to get used to having a fag outside!
One gripe I have about Dorirose/Canifor - the pool outside was pretty small and the number of sunbeds limited so if you go in summer there may be a problem. There is an indoor pool downstairs which is lovely.
They say that you either love or hate Malta, well I`m on my way back for the Carnival in 3 weeks....say no more

We were moved from a shabby room that had not been newly refurbished as said on the med hotels website, to another room which wasn't much better. Not to mention the foreign students that seek pleasure in banging doors and shouting at 1am. For 2 weeks we were bored stiff this is not a place to go if you have kids or seek a bit of fun on a night. As we were half board the food in the Canifor hotel was rubbish, you were served 1 slice of meat, 2 potatoes and if you asked for more they looked at you with digust.
It has to be one of the worst holidays I have ever been on. Never again
