stopped in the reubens hotel june this year for a week, which used to be the venus hotel before changing its name and having a face lift, after reading some of the reports me and my hubby were quite worried about the hotel we were going to, but went with an open mind after never been to malta before we took the view that it was a cheap holiday, half board and if we didnt like the place we were only sleeping there somewhere to lay our heads,
there was no messing about at the airport when we landed we were straight onto the coach and taken to our destinations, a bit disappointed in thr rep as he didnt really say anything just to say we were goint to the hotel and we were all for the same hotel, which he said was the palm court, we thought we were on the wrong coach! turns out that the palm court and the reubens are sister hotels and 1 minute round the corner from each other.
we found the room at the reubens very spacious, plenty of cupboard/wardrobe/drawer space clean we had a balcony that over looked the pool contrary to whet some reports have said the pool was clean, and we saw it been cleaned daily,we had maids every day and the beds were made up everyday towels were changed daily we had a fan and air conditioning which was free(how many places gave you that for nothing?) the fan was loose you could see the wiring but apart from that we had no complaints about the room it was basic but clean.as for the food i was surprised to see some complaints about the food, there was a choice of breakfast every morning and you could have as much as you wanted, the evening meals were very good, a ggod choice with fish every night, and two different types of joints( i recommend the pork loin) chicken, pasta, vegetables and salads and dessert so no complaits about the food from us! was disappointed in the fact that there was no entertainment but that wasnt a problem as we like to get out and about and not stop in the hotel, the bar never seemed to be open at night though ,
would recommend it as a cheap and cheerful holiday, the main bug bear was the touts that lay in wait for you they were everywhere, trying to con you into buying timeshare you have been warned!went to the sister hotel palm court and was glad we hadnt gone there we had to breakfast there on our last morning and it was like a warren with loads of little narrow passages and it was dull and dank
there was entertainment at this hotel though there seemed to be a few complaints about the hotel food although they use the same chefs! maybe because they were cooking on a bigger scale with it been a bigger hotel? you also had to go down for your meals at certain times at the palm court depending what floor you were on! we wouldnt stop here from what we seen and heard , but if you want value for money go to the reubens.as for the resort itself we liked it in the fact that qawra, bugibba and st. pauls all merged into one another at first you didnt notice when you went from one resort to the other, on the front there are many shops and little bars if you like country western head for the tartan bar on the front to hear the midnight cowboy! then of course theres the usual karaokes!
if youre a party animal then malta isnt the place for you!there are no sandy beaches in these resorts but there afe rocks you can sunbathe on or the kids can have fun down at the rock pools think my hubby wished we had a kiddy with us , as an excuse to use nets in them! golden bay /beach is a nice sandy beach, but awful for swimming (too much sea weed)as you enter the water you cant see the bottom for it and when i came to have a shower and stripped off, i was covered in the stuff stuck to my skin like dried leaves, would not recommend it!
the best place to go for a nice sandy beach and a swim is melieha beach(not sure if thats spelt right!) lovely fine sand, nice clear sea (no seaweed in sight!)and great for the kids a big plus if youve got the kids with you is that there are no sudden dips in the sea bottom and you can go out for ages before you go deep very safe for kids!
theres the usual beach shacks selling food and drinks and inflatables, now for sliema and st. juliens nice promenade no beach front shops or bars but plenty of shops further in (so im told) didnt stop to find out, if you like history you must do valetta, its fascinating and steeped in history, the buildings and the ruins(which are in greatshape) put on comfy shoes though as its a very up and down place! this place is no good if youve got bad legs!you need more than visit to valetta,
all i can say is get a cheapie and go and see if you like it , if you dont then you havnt spent a fortune and if you do like it then youve got a BARGAIN

Before we jetted off to Malta we were warned by almost everyone that it would be a holiday from hell, especially as we were staying in the Reuben Court. Well how wrong could they have been, the hotel was lovely with a nice size pool and the staff there were so friendly and helpful, they done everything they could for us to ensure we enjoyed our stay even more.
We will definitely be going back very soon.
TAKE A PEN WITH YOU as when you arrive at Malta airport you have to complete an immigration card, you bags are then placed on a separate van and you are taken to the hotel where your bags arrive a few minutes later.

The rooms are clean, they were cleaned every day with fresh towels, the bedding is changed once in the week, we tried to pick a fault with the room and the only thing we could find was cosmetic (the pipes run across the roof in the bathroom)
Reuben does not have a restaurant so we had to cross the road to the Palm Court Hotel for our breakfast and dinner.
The food is help your self and eat as much as you like, breakfast is a full fry and tea and coffee or juices and a selection of cereals.
Dinner is soap or pasta, salad then a selection of main courses, then a selection of puddings being mainly cakes, ice cream, fresh fruit salad, there is also free tea and coffee at dinner so you don't have to buy a drink from the bar.
In all the holiday was very good, not noisy and loads to see and do, we hired a car for LM5.50 a day (it was a Hyundai) we did get a puncture on one day trip which cost us as £1.50 to have fixed at a local garage.
If you have booked this holiday do not despair, see for yourself, at cheap prices you get basic, this hotel is clean the staff are good, it's just winging tourists that sit by the pool all day that could spoil it, get a car and get out.

After reading bad reviews on this hotel before we left for Malta, we were a bit apprehensive about going. Adopting the attitude, ";you get what you pay for"; we set off in good spirits and as this was a bargain holiday we weren't to complain. After all how bad could it be?
First impressions were average, staff seemed friendly enough, reception ok. lounge a bit grotty but then again we didn't spend much time there. Room (which was in the adjoining Sunstone apartments) has brilliant sea views, was clean and would serve the purpose for our week stay. There was however no air conditioning and had we not 'borrowed' two fans from the adjacent room, I doubt we would have survived the week, with temperatures +30c.
However during the week we had a number of complaints.
1. The pools in the hotel are disgusting, they are not cleaned regular and it is impossible to see the bottom. Not recommended for kids. Their idea of cleaning the pool is to throw a bucket of powder (I presume chlorine) into the pool every morning.
2. Rooms are not cleaned throughout the week. Clean towels provided once a week.
The bathrooms are not ventillated and you find yourself warmer brushing your teeth than having a hot bath.
3.The fridge we had in our room must surely be classed as a health hazard, there was rust both inside and out, the freezer compartment had so much ice the door would not close. When we complained about this the solution was to unplug the fridge one day whilst we were out and put a towel on the hotel floor to soak up any water!
4. The noise is terrible, considering this is supposed to be a family resort we were kept up until 4am on more than one occasion by loud music, karaoke and shouting. Something you would expect in Ibiza, not Malta.
5. The smell during the night was also off putting, the sea breeze brings with it the smell of the sewerage works in the nearby bay.
In general my opinion of Malta is not a good one. The streets are very dirty with litter and rubbish. The people (in particular young people in shops/bars and restaurants) are very rude, have never heard of 'please' or 'thankyou' and give the impression they wish you were not there.
The plus points (yes I know you're thinking are there any?) The public transport is excellent and its fun riding about the island on the old yellow buses. We found the food very good and drinks inexpensive.
Top tips - Travel about and see island, its worth looking outside of the resort.
If you are staying in Reuben Court use one of the lido pools on the Seafront, its not worth risking your life in the hotel pools!!!!!!
U pay for what you get basically, if ur young like 20's not a place for you, no night life!! though it was cheap and very hot!! the hotel was ok,pool was terrible and these bunch of lads were jumpin in there at like 4am i looked out of my balcony and one of...
