"Clean and spacious self catering"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This hotel has bad reviews elsewhere online - but I don't know why. When we visited it was friendly, clean, tidy and the rooms are extremely spacious. We had a 2 bedroom apartment with lovely views. The pools were basic but OK as we like to get out and about. The location is walking distance from Bugiba Bay and is peaceful at night time. My only gripe was lack of family orientated entertainment/kids activities.

"Never again"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We haven't been to Malta before and won't return. I hoped I'd booked a last minute bargain as I have many times before but this time it was a great disappointment. If Mercury Direct are happy to sell this as a 4* hotel I won't be travelling with them again. This is more like a good 2*. The hotel is is built around a quadrangle, three original sides with a fourth side currently being added, hence be prepared for intrusive building noise which starts early! The distance from the balcony, in the sitting room, to the wall on the other side of the quad is only 20 feet away and with 5 floors felt very overlooked and claustrophobic but this was nothing from the bedroom the view was a ventilation shaft 6 feet sqaure making the room dark all day. The beds were old and uncomfortable and the wooden base creaked loudly, enough to wake you up, every time any one moved. We reported this but nothing changed. The pool in the quad was closed due to building work but as it was the size of a postage stamp not really worth bothering with and the pool on the roof was not much better. Pool much too small for the number of guests, not enough sunbeds, nor room to put anymore, causing arguments between guests with small children, teenagers and older people all crammed in. The restaurant and indoor pool had no natural light so disappointing when it is sunny outside, again all making the feel depressing, but food okay. View from roof top bar not too bad if you look in the right direction avoiding all the other roofs. The only plus points for the hotel were the reception staff and roof top bar staff Simon and Matthew who were happy, helpful and a real asset to the hotel. The same could not be said for the lounge barman or the Mercury rep, Maria, who when we approached her for some information about return pick up times couldn't get away quickly enough saying she had hundreds of flights a week so she couldn't be specific we just had to be ready to leave 2 3/4 hours before the flight plus another 20 minutes in case he was early! Such a shame we were looking forward to a family holiday but couldn't wait to come home.

"Basic - no frills"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Basic facilities, poor restaurant food, good friendly service. Overall for those on a budget a reasonable choice. Main problem was the SAGA brigade - tended to dominate - always plenty there early and late in the season. No really a problem in the high season as weather is in general too warm for them.

"Lovely time"
Overall Hotel Rating:
My wife and I would like to express our thanks to the Manager on night duty and ultimately to the Reservations Department for your understanding and therefore providing us with alternative accommodation. This really helped in making our holiday most enjoyable. Staff all round were very helpful. We enjoyed all our meals and snacks and of course the sunshine and the little walks. Our room was comfortable and was cleaned daily. We had extra pillows and fresh towels and sheets were changed regularly. Absolutely wonderful. Hopefully we shall return on our holiday next winter.

"DISAPPOINTED"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We stayed at the Soreda over new year 09 on a All inclusive deal. When we arrived the mini bar (fridge) was empty, so we asked for it to be restocked with WATER only, and was told that it would cost 6 euro 50 cents for 6 small bottles, as you had to pay for all drinks in your fridge, not a good start. The comfort in the main bar was not very good as we had plastic tables and chairs ( garden furniture ) to sit on , but we later found out that they only used them over the holiday to fit more people in. As we are talking about the bar ,when it came to new years eve night the all inclusive deal ended at 11 pm, but the bar stayed open untill 1am, so we had to buy drimks to see the new year in. We have stayed in many hotels in malta over new year and all the all inclusive bars have stayed open untill 1am. The public areas was not very clean, stains on carpets, and when one of our party tipped some red wine over the white tablecloth it was not changed for 2 days. But lets look on the bright side, the food was quite good, and they have a very good gym and indoor pool, (the best i have seen) in malta. But all in all i would say it was a good 3* not 4*. This hotel may be good for summer etc, but give it a miss for new year holidays you will only be DISAPPOINTED.

"Pinch of Salt"
Overall Hotel Rating:
This is the second time we have stayed at the Soreda Hotel. What returned to this hotel for it’s quiet location and the friendly nature of all staff. As soon as we arrived, we noticed manychanges. The décor in the reception lobby area had changed considerably – more elegant. Making our way to our room we commented that the hotel must have had a refurbishment programme in place as the common areas and our room were designed in different colour schemes to what we knew. I Liked it. I understand that hotels age quickly because of the volumes of tourists and turnover of the rooms. Also was pleased to see that the Dining Room carpet has been removed and new Table linen displayed. Our room was cleaned daily and bed linen and towels were changed regularly and when we asked for the fridge to be stocked as a mini-bar. Service was great. Housekeeping staff were brilliant. We prefer to seek out our own entertainment but there were a couple of occasions when we lingered to see what it was like. Karaoke, disco dancing and Maltese folklore: Not exactly our cup of tea. But most residents seemed to be enjoying themselves. Many Maltese also come to be entertained on a Saturday evening. This made the place very busy but it also gave us an opportunity to gchat with a few of the locals. Such a small island and nearly 400,000 of them! We had a room facing into the courtyard and some of the balconies are very close with each other. It would have been a bonus to have a room with a view. However, my idea of a holiday is to go out, explore and meet the locals, and should I wish to chill on the balcony, I am usually reading. Swimming pool - good. There was a lack of sun-loungers -We asked at reception and the matter was solved. The pool is not massive and I would imagine that in summertime it would be very busy. However, because I am not keen on late morning or early afternoon bathing, when the heat gets unbearable, the pool was nice and quiet. Now that we have been on holidays before we know that hotels employs a two-week menu rota. Although it is not the Petrus, it is absolutely fresh & tasty. One thing that was annoying initially was the construction goings-on nearby. I have to say that unfortunately, on this little island there are building sites in most of the areas ie., Sliema, Bugibba etc.Having read some reviews, we were a apprehensive, however, there were occasions where I have seen tourists behaving shamefully. Read all reviews with a pinch of salt
