We would have been better off staying in a tent rather than in this supposedly 3 star hotel. The towels were grey instead of white, The food was absolutely rubbish, very repetitive. This hotel and area is not disable friendly AT ALL. The rooms were filthy, and the balcony was afoot wide. There was no comfort in the room whatsoever. This was our second room as the first room was like a dungeon. The toilets hadnt seen a good clean most probably all year. This hotel was supposedly refurbished recently, must have put new lightbulbs in for the refubishment! The lifts kept breaking down sometimes waiting ten minutes for the lift.

we booked this place for it's location, overlooking the harbour.after booking a studio for two, we e-mailed asking for a sea view, this cost an axtra 17 euroes per night to upgrade to a one bedroom unit for 4 people. from outside this place looks impressive as does the reception area, up to the room the view from the tiny balcony is stunning.the room looks like a sixties butlins throwback. the view from the living room/second sleeping room is of the service shaft, drain pipes with the smell and used condoms chucked out. the room was filthy, can't have had a proper clean for ages, dust everywhere, cobwebs on the ceiling, toilet hadn't seen any bleach ever, fridge needed de frosting, bathroom had cracked tiles, again filthy.the main bed is a wooden frame with plywood top and a matress on top.the maid visited daily to swap the towels and empty the bin, she never did any cleaning, just opened a pack of cakes and helped herself, left the crumbs all over the floor.this place has no pool, a jacuzzi on the roof is surrounded by tables and chairs so no privacy there then.the shop downstairs is a rip off,the evening meals upstairs crap. if this had been our first visit to malta it would have been our last, however we own two timeshares in Qawra so we know what a lovely place malta is. avoid this hotel and sliema too, it's one big rip off.

Stay in Sliema, but thats all,as resorts go I would not really class it as one,it is just a shopping town with very few restaurants, mainly cafe bars. The town itself is like walking in an English high street, you name the shop and it is here .There is no beach just a promenade ,although it is very pretty with all the boats.Travel into St Julians for all nightlife and restaurants 5 minutes on the bus, costs only 47cents to anywhere on the island, bus service is excellent and the stops are right outside the hotel, although some of the busdrivers are completely insane but in a good way? Captain Morgan cruises are very good indeed would highly recommend, trip to Comino great ,take the speed boat trip to the caves, they are not up to much but the speedboat ride was class, very fast, great fun. Valletta,. visit during the day, visit the cathedral, very beautiful, dont waste your euros on the state rooms nothing worth seeing over in 5 minutes.Dont go to Valletta at night everything shuts. Nights spectacular trip was highly entertaining ,something different retold the story of the great siege of 1565 with real fight scenes, guns and horses etc. Sliema is not really a place to take young kids as they would get very bored very quickly.I loved the hotel but wished it had been in St Julians.

hotel does not disappoint, spotless clean with very friendly helpful staff.Have a room with a sea view and see Valletta but when booking ask for a high floor as the noise from the traffic can keeep you awake especially the car stereo systems booming out at a...

hotel does not disappoint, spotless clean with very friendly helpful staff.Have a room with a sea view and see Valletta but when booking ask for a high floor as the noise from the traffic can keeep you awake especially the car stereo systems booming out at all hours of the night,it took us a couple of nights to get used to it as we were on the first floor The pool on the roof is a lot bigger than we expected it to be with plenty of sunloungers at any time of the day,the pool bar food is excellent and very reasonably priced as is the mini bar in your room. The views from the roof are pretty awesome and from the restaurants as well. The hotel has a BBQ every Friday,we tried it but would not reccommend it,save your euros and give it a miss.

Just returned from the fortina hotel and was disgusted on arrival to be given room 110 which had a tiny double bed when I had booked twin beds for myself and my daughter. Moreover the room was dirty and fungus in the shower and the hotel was smelly and unclean. In dire need of a makeover . The lifts tiny and not working properly, the lido pool dirty and cramped not even going to mention toilet facilities. Had to pay 400 euros to upgrade to a clean room in the spa and I understand this happens all the time. Even the spa was not 5 star barely 4. the garden pool had one toilet for men and women and always a queue. No beach towels until 10 a.m. tough if your up early. Would not return if you paid me. Go to the Hilton St.Julian a million times cleaner. This hotel is advertised weekly in national press, what a con.

Malta is a lovely place, nice people, loads of places to see. We travelled on the "Malta buses", cheap and do get you to places even if they sound as if they are going to conk out any minute. A must is going to a Fiesta, these are celebrations in different villages for their churches. Fireworks galore. Or you could hire a car, as they drive on the same side of the road as us in the UK, its not a daunting to drive there.

"Disappointed with hotel"

We booked into the 4* part of Hotel Fortina, we did not realise until we arrived at the hotel that part of the hotel is 4* and the posh part is 5*. The 5* part you get a choice of restaurants, the garden pools and bars, posh entrance, better seating and cushions, you name it, it looks very nice. The 4* part is like the poor relation - plastic cups, no cushions on the plastic seats, poorer sunlounger pads, if you want to go to one of the other restaurants apart from the buffet restaurant you have to pay an extra 10 euros per person. The room we were allocated had a very nice view overlooking Valleta, however, the decor needed refreshing, the air conditioning did not work right, so they had supplied the room with a portable which had to have the pipe placed through an open window, and as the room was on the roadside we did not feel it was safe to leave this on through the night. Although there again, the windows did not lock either. The food in the buffet restaurant was only luke warm, so by the time you had got to your table to start eating your meal, it was just about cold. It must have been bad, as my husband who usually has to be dragged away from an all inclusive actually dragged me away this time. We ended up just having two lunches - the first day we arrived and the last day due to us having to leave for the airport after lunch, or else we would have had lunch there only the once. We did go to one of the other restaurants, but we were not allowed to mix with the 5* guests. I felt like a child looking into a sweet shop, or a lower class of person on the titanic. I love Malta, but would not go the hotel Fortina again, unless I went 5*

See my previous review for Metropole Hotel. Parking is even worse for this hotel as it is literally on the main road. Visited for my Aunty's funeral so didn't really have the time to look around the resort again. Bus drivers are miserable too, but if you drived on Maltese roads for a living you would be too.

The New Tower Palace is very nice hotel even though the weather was shocking betwen May 10th and 13th 2008 when I visited. Booked direct with hotel on their website which I thought was a bit expensive but probably average for the increasingly expensive Malta, spoiled by the Euro. Hotel was very clean and all rooms have a balcony, not much use in gale force winds mind you. Had twin beds, TV, air con, heating, shower/bath, hair-dryer etc. Breakfast was continental style but restaurant is quite small. Nice cakes and coffee though I have to say. Cafe for guests and non-guests is good but bar-man lacks a smile. I cant blame him though, the tourism industry does that to people from a work/local people's perspective. Antonella the receptionsit was fantastic and very nice. Large Swimming pool and sunbathing area of roof of hotel, probably great in summer. Overall very satisifed and would stay there again.

Sliema is the same tourist area it has always been with nothing much changing apart from the increase in empty buildings, building sights and traffic. The promenade is good for walks although mind out for dog dirt and the shops on the front are actually better than Valletta for shopping. Personally, I am half Maltese and have been to Malta that many times, the tourist aspect does not bother me really anymore and indeed this time I went to visit My Aunty who was ill in the new Mater Dei Hospital which is state of the art and as good as a hospital can be. I imagine that for medical tourism, Malta is great but arguably at the expense of local people's health care.

Although this hotel seems as if it belongs to a different era (probably the 1980s) it really is not as bad as people say. I stayed there April 19th-May 3rd 2008 with Chevron, and Yes there is a odd smell at times, yes, the hotel is in a slight need of refurbishment and yes somethings do not work but the basics are there and I was more than happy to put up with these minor faults. what do people expect when they pay next to nothing? It is about time these people stopped moaning, its not as if they contribute a lot to the Maltese tourism industry anyway. For me, The Food was fantastic all the time and there was a good choice of main dishes. ALL the staff do everything they can to help you. A special mention for Waitor Charles and the Chef Nicky who are legends. Hotel has a bar, swimming pool and sun area (which I didn't use but they looked ok) and rooms with balconies are availiable too. For Car Hire, Parking on Sir Adrian Dingli Street is not good and I imagine it would be almost impossible in summer, parking and walking or bussing is probably the better option if you are there for a holiday. For me though, no complaints at all really and I would definately consider this hotel again if I need a cheaper option.

The Preluna is a very well-managed hotel. The staff are well-trained, efficient, helpful and friendly. The reception staff in particular were outstandingly good. We booked one of the basic rooms. The large picture-window gave no view and there was no balcony, but the room was a good size, and had plenty of storage space. (The full specs for the various grades of room are given on the hotelâ??s website.) The beds were OK and the bathroom fine. We developed a dripping pipe, but this was fixed promptly by the hotelâ??s in-house maintenance engineer. The hotelâ??s various facilities all seemed well run, except for the Preluna Towers Cafe, where the staff though aimiable seemed to have little idea of what their individual jobs were. The buffet breakfasts in the Triton Restaurant covered all the conceivable requirements for a full British, a full German and a full French. The quality of the inidividual items varied, but it was not difficult to have a large and enjoyable breakfast. There were lots of Germans and Brits tucking in, and plenty of Italians and French too. We were on B & B, so we ate out in the evenings for the first five days, but though we found pleasant restaurants with ambience and good service, the food was not outstanding and it was quite expensive. The price of the all-you-can-eat evening buffet in the Triton was 15.75 Euros, and other guests enthused about it, so we decided to ask Reception if we could switch to half-board. This took about a minute to arrange, and the additional cost was only 12 Euros pppn â?? remarkable value, considering that it was easy to enjoy a six course meal of soup, pasta, various salads, a main course, desserts and fresh fruit if you so desired. Again the quality was uneven, but there were always some triumphs, and the carvery option in the main course was uniformly excellent. It was also a pleasant surprise when the drinks list turned out to be considerably cheaper than the prices outside, eg. a half-carafe of very pleasant local white wine was only 3 euros. There are ATMs just outside the hotel on both sides, a supermarket a block to the rear, bus stops just outside, and the shops start about 200m away. There is a busy main road just outside the hotel, and beyond that the sea, which is wonderfully transparent and a beautiful colour, and easy of access for swimming, or sunbathing on the rocky shelf running along the coastline.. But too cold to tempt us in early May.
