We would have been better off staying in a tent rather than in this supposedly 3 star hotel. The towels were grey instead of white, The food was absolutely rubbish, very repetitive. This hotel and area is not disable friendly AT ALL. The rooms were filthy, and the balcony was afoot wide. There was no comfort in the room whatsoever. This was our second room as the first room was like a dungeon. The toilets hadnt seen a good clean most probably all year. This hotel was supposedly refurbished recently, must have put new lightbulbs in for the refubishment! The lifts kept breaking down sometimes waiting ten minutes for the lift.
No beaches, No nightlife, plenty of flies to eat your food and drink your coffee! Nothing to do by the hotel, you have to get a bus to go anywhere.

The Hotel staff are so accomodating and will try to resolve an issue you have. (My matress was very uncomfortable, and i mentioned this to the Thomson Rep.By the next day this had been replaced. I can't see that happening in many English Hotels !)
Our room was simple but very clean and towels were replaced daily. Our shower was very good and we never had a problem with Hot water. The TV only had a couple of Englsih channels but to be honest who cares ??? I certainly don't go on holiday to sit in a hotel room and watch TV. The Air con was great as it was over 40 degrees during our stay. It was a little noisey but did not keep me up all night. The road outside is busy during the day but certainly not loud late at night.
The food - how can people complain ?? Breakfast was tasty with a good selection of cereals, bread, currant bread and full English. ok so there was not sausages and bacon on the same day but there was a good selection. The only request(my friend Lynne would have liked to have seen was Natural Yoghurt to have with your cereal.
Evening meal was good with a selection of salads each evening, Soup and a selection of 3 main courses. ususally a meat, fish and vege pasta. Children's meals and a choice of omelettes are available on request. If you are half board you can swap your evening meal for Lunch. As for someone saying the plates were small and the chef gave small portions I would totally disagree! Yes the plates are smaller than your average dinner plate but the chefs are more than happy for you to go back up and try something else. We certaily did !!! The catering staff are very pleasant and the view is lovely.
The rooftop bar is great! John the barman is fantastic and has a wealth of information on Malta - what to see and where to go. A credit to the Hotel! Many a night he waited patiently to go home while we had "just one more Chisk" ! The entertainment was simple but still good enough to enjoy after a busy day.
The reception staff are more than happy to help you with any questions you may have.
The hotel is split into 2 sides - the Plaza and The Plaza Regency. The Plaza has undergone a refurb and we made friends with people who were on this side. Their room was great with Plasma TV and nice contemporary designs, throws on the bed, matching cushions and leather sofas etc. By contrast we were on the other side but there was absolutely nothing wrong with our room and we were on the first floor overlooking the view.
We were lucky enough to be in Sliema for the feast of St. Gregory. We experienced a fantastic firework display (2 nights) and marching bands and prcessions. Plus we had a birds eye view from the rooftop bar.
Lots of the reviews mention where to go so I won't dribble on about that.
One thing we did do was to Swim with Dolphins at the water park. (£75.00 per person.) Don't expect to be somersaulted up in the air and whiz around holding it's dorsal fin as it was not like that at all. You do get in the pool with the Dolphins- and are able to touch them etc. It was very educational and a lovely experience. Would recommend this if you are an animal lover.....
Another good thing to do is to put on your nice clothes and go to the 22nd floor of the tower and have a cocktail and admire the view at night ...
This was our first trip to Malta and there is still so much for us to see and do, that we have already booked to go back next August.
The Plaza regency is a great hotel and it does deserve it's 3 stars. You get what you pay for and it is well worth the money. There is not one bad thing I can say about it. Met lots of new friends and had so much fun in a lovely environement.
:-)

This hotel is not worth its 3 star. The accommodation was very poor - springs coming through the mattresses - small dark pokey room - lack of storage space - grey thin towels - tacky bathroom (although good shower)- grey plastic chairs on balcony etc Food was also rubbish - very boring, repetitive ie beef every night - small plates - not much salad selection - chefs dished the main meal up - gave everyone one small piece - lack of vegetables - total of two or three at the most including potatoes - reception staff rude - breakfast English - no crossants - only bacon or sausage not both at same time - again small side plates - coffee machine disgusting - had to buy a jar of coffee.

The Plaza is along the built-up seafront from the centre of Sliema and has a great position - nice views over the water, with cafes opposite, and is only 10 mins (traffic permitting) by bus (40p one way) from Valetta, and a couple of mins from the centre of Sliema which has tourist shops and Marks and Spencer,Burtons etc.Or you can walk in either direction along the attractive seafront promenade, the opposite way being pretty St Julian's Bay (fishing boats),and the Bay Street Shopping Centre(nightclub area).
The prom is great in the evening with the locals promenading. All the way along below the prom are flat sun bathing rocks with access to the sea.I booked just over 2 weeks before from the late deals section of Direct Holiday's website (My Travel),and payed just £125 each for 1 week's half board inc.flight, rep, and coach transfers based on 2 sharing in one of the dreaded rear view rooms.Direct Holidays were brilliant all round and the room (no. 211) was also very good.Very large with 3 beds, proper bathroom, and by the look of it newly decorated.Yes,it was a little dark and basic, but instead of just a small window it had a mini patio door about as big as a front door which slid open half way and you could see sky and flowers in neighbouring yards. The room smelled strongly of stale cigarette smoke but by opening both doors it cleared somewhat as the week went on.
For breakfast, there were cooked items such as egg, bacon, fried bread and beans, plus cereals and frothy coffee (very nice). For the evening meal there was soup,a small array of salads,2 veg choices plus something like meat or fish. All in all the meals were hot, well cooked, and fine.Hotel staff were pleasant, Maltese as friendly as ever. Dining room is on the sixth floor with a small pool area above that.
Watch out for - Medsun Car Hire opposite the St. Julian's Bay McDonalds.I was told by the Scandinavian who appears to run it that my bank debit card details were being taken only for reference just in case I didn't bring the car back,to be used as an £80 deposit, rather than giving them £80 returnable cash or using a credit card. However,I found later back home that they DID take the money from my current account and although they'd put it back again when the car was returned my bank account had gone £70 overdrawn while the money was missing.Fortunately,I apparently have a £100 overdraft but they didn't know that.Secondly, the Ta'Quali Craft Village is shut on Saturday afternoons.
All in all,Direct Holidays were really great and so is the hotel especially if you can get it as a late deal.

I too am amazed at some poor comments on this hotel, the road outside I would say is not good for small children but then again, Sliema is the wrong location for small children. We found the staff very good although the rep. (Chevron) was not up to much, the location is ideal with lovely public gardens on your doorstep, a frequent bus service outside hotel, hotel bar prices reasonable and the food a good 3 star standard. All in all this hotel is good value for money and in an ideal location, I would advise a side seaview or seaview room if possible and I would most certainly go back here again and found the weather just right.
This was a very good choice in Malta as before on previous visits we have stayed in Buggiba and I would say in the summer Sliema is the better for people over 50, my previous comments state this hotel is a good 3 star hotel and value for money, the road can...
