This is not a hotel in the true sense of the word merely rooms above a shopping complex - think Wood Green Shopping City or any you care to name. And if I can deter one other peron from going there, this will have been worthwhile. The Reception is on the 2nd floor and they could not care less what happens to anyone in the so called hotel. You have to pay for so many extras you will need to take extra cash to pay for all these. On arriving at our room, we saw out of the window there were two gangs of girls fighting in the square below us. No amount of complaining led to an improvement. This area was the gathering point every late afternoon and late into the night for all the effluent teenagers in the area to let off steam, scream and shout and get up to sexual shnanigins on the stairs leading to the rear entrance. We politely requested to move to the quieter side but the stroppy cow in reception refused point blank to even look to see if this were possible. I could go on and on about the nearby noise of the thump thump music but I think you get the picture. Will not be ever going back

Malta is a loverly island and there is a lot to see and do. The people are very friendly with the one exception and can all speak English. They also drive on the left which is a big plus. We will go back to Malta, especially to see the Hypergeum whch was f...

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon and found it to be fantastic.

I was quite wary having read other not so great reviews regarding noise at the complex, but we had a great time from start to end.

Our room was absolutely massive, biggest hotel room i have ever seen, and was spotless, as was the bathroom. Maid service was first class and staff at hotel were friendly and helpful. Only moans i had were the balcony only had a glass panel overlooking the ground from the 7th floor with a gap between - hence to say it wouldve made us seasick, so we didnt sit out. Also the waitress every morning at breakfast (only seemed to be the one) didnt ever make you feel welcome, ran around clearing tables faster than you could eat your sausage, she made you feel rather uncomfortable at times. Other than that we loved the place and would definately like to return in the future. It is situated in the heart of Paceville, so yes, you do hear the bars at nighttime, but with the help of the double glazing and double vodka's we managed to sleep through it no problem!

Theres a great wee salsa bar called Fuego's straight across from the hotel, highly recommended. Also Huggins Restaurant for great food at reasonable prices. Give the Black Bull a miss, the smell of the toilets was the biggest turn off ever. Best chinese is the Jade Garden further up the same street as the Black Bull and Huggins, they were fantastic in there too.

Another great aspect was a small beach just two mins away from the hotel, was really quiet and very clean, we had some great days down there. The internet cafe in the hotel was spotless (others in the resort were very dirty) but the loud jazz music they seem to constantly play is a big nuisance, cant consentrate its so loud, and jazz isnt to everyones taste.

Over and above this the hotel is a lovely clean, modern environment and comes highly recommended, i would definately visit again.

Flew with Air Malta which was on time and also pleasant to find leg room on the aircraft!!

Stayed at the Bay Street Hotel as part of a presentation on holidays abroad (timeshare!!)
The hotel was relatively new and the hotel rooms were situated on the 5th and sixth floors of a large shopping complex. There was also a lovely swimming pool situated on the roof top with stunning views over the Bay. The rooms were large and contained a sofa, tv, trouser press and self catering facilitys and were spotlessly clean. We also had a daily room service with fresh towels every day.

If you like us are put into certain rooms you may find yourselves directly under the Hard Rock Cafe in the complex with loud and I mean loud thumping music until 5-6 a.m. in the morning!! The music finishes and then the concrete mixers fire up!!

As mentioned in other reviews St Julians is not everyones cup of tea. During the day it is a pleasant area to walk around. The nights however are a totally different story. It makes Falaraki seem like Lilliput!! On Saturday night local youngsters congregate in a large park together with carrier bags laden with all types of booze. They then subsequently drink themselves into oblivion and then later in the night head off to the 'steps' opposite Bay Street to the thumping bars and night clubs. Other people we had spoken to had also witnessed drugs being handed over in the streets. The clubs go on until the early hours. When they have finished with their bottles they simply throw them all over the place and take great care to ensure they smash!! The whole of the bar/club area resembles a tip and nobody seems interested in cleaning up the place. This has to be seen to be believed. It ws left like this all week.

The Locals incidentally, drive like maniacs and will stop at crossings but only once you have stepped on them and screech to a shuddering halt.

So after all the negatives I must submit some positives.!!
The buses are great, cheap and plenty of them, forget the tours just do it yourself you will save a fortune.
Valetta, Silema and Medina are places definitely worth visting.

In Paceville we also a found a little treasure that being the Tropical Bar run by Jo and her Daughter Charlotte who were more than helpful. Not only giving us details of buses and places to vist but also recommending places to eat. Jo was great and always had a friendly smile and if you read this Jo thanks again!!

We would definitely recommend Zeris restaurant situated over the road from Tropical this is run and owned by a young ambitious chef and the food was outstanding and also good value for money. We found that prices for meals wherever we went ranged from £20 -£45 not cheap by any means but you needed to be selective. Jo also told us about the China House which is situated near the Marina. Excellent food one of the best Chinese we have eaten.
People have said to us you either love or hate Malta.

The majority of people were friendly, however I think they have genuine problems with the youngsters there and the Police seem powerless to do anything about it. Nights make the area feel intimadating. I know we are not in the 18-30 age range, but like a good time as much as anyone it's just that the mob culture puts you off
First time to Malta and unfortunatley highly likely to be the last.
