I got this holiday from E Bay for 111 pounds sterling for 2 people for 7 nights half board which is very cheap.. we up graded to a superior room for 30 lm which was much more comfortable. the staff could not do enough for you except for one surly youth who was a bit ignorant. the food was excellant, b. fast was the same every day but ok. eveninfg meals were freshly cooked and table service and they were resterant quality .On the menu the same set meal was 4.50 LM which is about 8 pounds.

The resort is very livly and you are just far enough away so as not to hear the noise of partying..Malta on the whole needs a little TLC but i go only for scuba diving and i love it ..

The hotel alfonso was a ridiculously cheap deal, (worked out £5 sterling each per night, half board!) for this money, we did not expect much, but just needed to get to malta fast following a family emergency. What we found at the alfonso was impeccable hospitality (almost guaranteed amongst the maltese people), clean rooms and good, home-made food.

Whilst the Alfonso isn't nearly the ritz, it is a well-looked after, small, family-run hotel. The rooms are cleaned daily, with regular towel and bed-linen change. On the down-side, the view was horrible, over-looking lots of empty, glass bottles stored up, but for the money, and under the circumstances, we ddn'e care.

We actually booked this accomodation through ebay, and, although I have been visiting Malta since I was a baby, have never seen this hotel in brochures. Perhaps this is because, being so small (28 rooms), it does not measure up to British tour operator standards. This is only a guess, but we did notice a few German tour operator files in the TV lounge, and none from anywhere else!
The Maltese people are fantastic.

As a resort, I find Paceville and St Julians have everything you need. It is more of a young person's place than other Maltese resorts, but if you're not into your pubbing and clubbing, there is a IMAX cinema, great shopping and a bowling alley. If that doesn't take your fancy, there are regular, veruy cheap buses, and nothing is ever far away, wherever you are in Malta. Watch out for taxis. The best number to get hold of is freephone taxis, although the ride is usually a bit rickety, they are far cheaper than anyone else-don't get ripped off! If you're young and holidaying with friends, don't visit Malta until Summer. Low season is dead, and most bars and clubs are closed, but it's still good at the weekends.

All in all, Malta is a lovely, safe, accomodating place wherever you stay.
