THE five-star Hilton truly lives up to its rating and is lavishly luxurious with a fabulous pool and delightful dining area.
Although we didn't eat frequently in the hotel we found the buffet dinners to be delicious and not too outrageously priced - only the poolside bar charges astronomical prices (£3 for a plastic cup of Sunkist).

Although Malta seems rather run-down at first glance it becomes fascinating with further viewing and the Hilton is near to delightful harbour restaurants with tables both inside and out.
The even nearer Marina eateries are splendidly set among the millionaires' yachts and, if you're not in any hurry and have an hour or so to spare between ordering and being served, there is nowhere more peaceful or picturesque to dine.
For those who enjoy a slightly longer stroll around the bay The Barracuda is top notch yet the bill was under £50 for two, including wine and beer. The best sea bass dish I've ever eaten and on the terrace, gazing at the lit-up bay, it is a taste of paradise.

Local buses are certainly cheap and proved reliable but so old and dilapidated you do wonder about their safety. But transport is essential because the Hilton is out in a docklands setting and rather remote.
For a lovely rest without too much excitement the Hilton is ideal - but anyone looking for a bit of life might find it somewhat dull.

We went to St Julians on Honeymoon for a week.

The hotel was always well kept and clean and very beautifull. The staff were ok,the cleaners were alot friendlier.
We enyoed eating in the Thai restraunt the food was excellant and the service just as good, be carefull when booking a meal i had asked in the reception of the hotel would i need to book a meal and i was told no just head straight to a resturant there would be no problem, when i got to the restarant within the hotel i was told they were fully booked and not to listen to reception staff as they didn't run the resturant.

i wasn't very impressed by the resort itself it was dirty and the locals unfriendly along with most of the tourists.
as we were on honeymoon the both of us were very tired. most of our stay we tried to see as much as we could, we went on a day trip on a boat which went around the comino islands it was excellant and very relaxing not to be missed. The food in Malta is good enough if your not afraid to try things. By the end of the week we stayed in the hotel for the last two days (how i wish we had stayed and relaxed in the hotel for the entire week it was lovely).

Before i forget we went out to see what the nightlife was like in paceville if i were you i woudn't bother. Try the canaries or somewhere else if you want an enjoyable honeymoon or holiday in general.

I have read some of the reviews on this site with reference to St Julians and the Hilton. I have just returned from two weeks there and can honestly say I have never had a worse holiday.

The Hilton appears in several brochures now and is obviously priced at the high end of the market. What you need to be aware of is that it'll cost you the proverbial arm and a leg to eat/drink there. I have the bill for my evening (buffet)meal in front of me. Buffet dinner for two, a bottle of mediocre local wine, two local beers, a bottle of water and tip = £81. The beer was £4.15, the water was £4.13.

The mini-bar prices were outrageous hence an endless stream of guests coming back to the hotel with drinks, eats, etc from the local shop.

A drink by the pool (2 milk shakes and a coffee + the expected tip)equalled £14.

Don't even think about using the phone in your room!

Unlike a lot of five star hotels, there are precious few extras provide in the price - no fruit in the room, etc.

As for St Julians - a poor excuse for a holiday resort. Thank heavens for Paceville round the corner.

Malta - diabolical roads, no signs, mad (dangerous) drivers ...

A straw poll at the check-in queue on the way home proved that we were not the only ones who felt like this.

This was our first rip to Malta and prior to travelling we had been told it was full of elderly people and that there was nothing to do. Nothing was further from the truth. We found the Maltese very friendly and helpful. The tourists were a mix of all ages, British, French and German and pleasingly there was no sign of the typical English larger lout. There was a plentiful supply of restaurants and bars catering for all budgets.

We booked via Cadogan who provided an air-conditioned taxi to and from the airport, which was much appreciated, as it was about 31 degrees. Nice for sunbathing which we did by the poolside. The Hilton provided free sun loungers, umbrellas and towels at all three pools and there was always free loungers so you didn't feel it was over crowded.

The hotel was superb with a good selection of bars and restaurants within the complex. We ate at the Italian restaurant on our first night and found the food to be excellent. The Hilton was close to town meaning that a brief stroll took you in to town and a good promenade took you along in to Sliema.

We booked a powerboat trip to Comino / The Blue Grotto with Yellow Fun who was based at the Hilton; they offer many different water sports and water-based trips. We had a great day out; the Yellow Fun staff were very helpful and friendly.

As our visit was brief we booked a personal guide and driver via our Cadogan rep, Aldo, for a full day. They planned the itinerary with us, which meant we crammed a lot of sightseeing in to a short time. Highly recommended as being very good value for money. Also a note regarding Aldo, nothing seemed to be too much trouble for him, he gave us his mobile number to call should we need to get hold of him.

On our last night we ate at the Pagoda Malaysian and Chinese restaurant. The food was excellent, as was the service. Plus the price was very fair.

Malta seems to have no crime other than bad / interesting drivers so we felt very safe. We will definitely return to Malta and will stay at the Hilton again. The only point I would make is that if you want a holiday with plenty of nightlife then the Hilton isn't likely to suit you, likewise it's not really suited to families as it seems to cater more for adults without children.
