My sister and i have just come back from a week at the Hilton, St Julians. For 2 woman alone, Malta is the perfect place to go. We were never hassled once and felt very safe. THE HILTON: A beautiful hotel with more pools than you could ever need, set in a lovely location. The Staff were very friendly and the food excellent, my only criticism would be the price of drinks. £10 for 2 Lime and Soda's, £5 for a glass of wine. Do check your bill at the end as they have a habit of adding a few things on. But we would definately go back. Just buy some drinks to have on your Balcony.

PORTOMASO HARBOUR: The restaurants were very expensive and apart from Le Corragio, weren't worth the money. SNOOPY'S: This was the best find of the holiday for food. To find it you need to walk out of St Julians along the Harbour and just as you pass the s...

We have just returned from this hotel. It was very disappointing! We have holidayed in many 5* hotels and this was not up to scratch. Firstly we moved rooms 3 times. 1.) stank of stale smoke. 2.) woken at 6.30 GMT by buiding works. 3.)nearly good.

They have british plug sockets but provide two pin plugs with hairdryers and mosquito plugs. most adaptors are two pin to British not vice versa! The showers in the bathrooms were slow and the baths stained there was also no heating in the bathroom and as it was relatively cool, would have been nice.

The sheets were changed once in seven days. the complimentary water was not given to us on two occasions and then on day four was charged for at 1.75 LM. you had to be wiley to notice that.!!

TV.s were old and poor remotes intermittent and volume poor. monotonous entertainment of one man on piano every night playing the same tunes. Barely no drinks service by the pool as bar closed, although on one day staff did walk round and ask!

Quality of Breakfast cold buffett meats and cheeses less than fresh and coffee luke warm and stewed. Yoghurts warm. Restaurant and other areas plagued by flies. mosquitoes rife my husband had more than 60 bites on his return. i only had ten and they were jolly itchy!

Sports club living well poor only 4 ladies showers for over 30 ladies one not working and all a bit gungy/smelly!

Not much luxury, basic sunbeds and towels no turn down chocolates or complimentary wine! Turn down started at 4.30pm GMT. Beach club area totally closed so no access to sit and watch sea and other hotels still had this facillity.

On the convesre some lovely well priced retaurants in the new Portamaso complex especially the Billy steak restaurant. Also an excellent Jazz bar, and Totos in Spinolla bay lovely. Good thirty minute walk to Silema but a nice one or cheap 0.20c bus fare. Although drivers a bit rude. Try the open top bus trip as this is excellent. We were more disappointed as the saturdays entertainment of piano accordian and violinist to occampany the Fish evening was Fabulous.

Just think they need to update and bring themselves in line with other hotels.

Good points:

Hotel is beautiful, sea view or marina view are both excellent
Staff are the most helpful and attentive and pleasant I have ever met
Hotel houses an excellent thai and italian restaurant - some of the best on the island
Go to Barracuda for an excellent meal - also Zest is another good choice.
In Paceville go to Hugos for drinks and great food and elegant decor (amidst the chaos of teenage locals)
7 rooms is good for a lively night out
Close to Gozo and Comino
Excellent breakfast

Bad points:

Tipping culture within the hotel
Prices within the hotel are astronomical in comparison to the resort as a whole

People say you either love or hate Malta.... after visiting for a week, I don't see how you couldn't love it. We will definitely go back.

Excellent Holiday, good location hotel room superb, hotel food good but expensive but better choice and value at weekends.
Thai Blue Elephant very good. lots of cheap good value local restaurants. Always go for the busy ones.Avoid Big outdoor cafes in Valleta better value places close by.
Even in march temperature 64 average.

Malta roads being upgraded at moment due to joining Eu lots of diversions, but driving in Malta as always is ok, everybody dives in but no one gets road rage, car highly recommended but shop around on arrival some of the big companies charge too much and can be beaten on price by local garages who advertise only in Malta.
Blue grotto worh seeing but be flexible pick a calm day and check sea on south of island first. Gozo superb take your car turn up early ,pay on ferry and enjoy.
Malta if its your first time youll either love or hate it, never felt safer, its not finished but thats its charm, go before it gets too crowded.

We,d go back tommorow given the chance.

This was our first visit to Malta and I must say I was plesentley surprised.
The hotel complex and grounds are well kept with plenty of available sunbeds. The hotel is well kept and the staff are very helpful. Food prices around the pool are not too bad and drinks are quite steep, however I have paid more. The Thai blue elephant restaurant serves great food and is set overlooking the marina.
One great way to travel to Valetta is take a speedboat at the edge of the marina. Make sure it's a calm day!
If it's some nightlife you are after head up to the nearby paceville where you can drink and dance the night away.
The old buses are cheap but take care where you sit. If you are near a window close to the exhaust the fumes are terrible.Buses leave from the main road down from the hotel to both Silema and Valetta.

Overall a great hotel and a interesting Island.
