Portomaso Apartments Reviews

Portomaso is situated in the finest part of St. Js, bordering Sleima. Located next to the Hilton, its a very neat, tidy, and central area. It is built in the shape of a small 'u' and cradles a private marina with plenty of boats and yachts. You may find yourself sitting around that marina in Vino Blanko for a nice chardonnay and cigar, or at Zen (Saki and suchi), or at several of the other restaurants in the marina. Expect prices to be higher than normal in this area. I had booked a one bedroom flat not really knowing what the property looked like but was thoroughly impressed and convinced that it was worth every single penny spent! I stayed in Portomaso for 32 days.

Apartments are fully furnished and are all equiped with modern kitchenettes, laundry, living, dining, large bedroom, marbled bathroom all for $120/night! After becoming acquainted with the town, I started to realize how lucky I was. Not to mention the fact that I had the privilage of meeting my next door neibors, David Becks and Posh!

Although there is no swimming pool, Portomaso residents are allowed to use the Hilton's pool and gym. That's not really an issue, anyway, since the whole of Malta is one giant swimming pool and tanning salon... EVERYWHERE you go, you see swimming pools with tanning beds for rent!

Food in the Portomaso/Hilton area is excellent; however, you need to be careful of less reputable looking places. The nightlife is good but not great and there are just too many young kids wandering around. If you go to St. Jullians, you should check out these places; Havana, Fuego, Dragonara Casino, Footloose, Brass Monkey, and Steam (exotic dancing). These places all enforce a minimum age policy that helps make you feel like you're not some old fart.

I went to Malta to party... and I did! If you have discerning taste and like to live in a style and comfort, I highly recommend Portomaso Apartments. Finding a decent place in Malta can be tricky and if you have allot of people in tow, it could very well ruin your holiday. In my opinion, its better to pay the slightly higher price for an extra measure of assurance.
