"St Georges Park review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We had found about this site and had read the other reviews too late to cancel our arrangements so we went there anyway, in the hope it won't be so noisy in the pre-season (April 2005). But we were wrong. The hotel is in very noisy neighborhood, opposite three extremely loud night clubs with deafening music pounding until 5 a.m. Being unable to rest at night we couldn't properly enjoy the rest of the holiday.
The room itself was not bad, it was cleaned and the towels were replaced every day. But, the breakfast was the same every single day and there was only one kind of cheese and one kind of breakfast cereal. Being vegetarians we took most of ours meals at Pizza Hut.
The main error is advertising this hotel as 'family oriented'. It is not, it is only suited to young people who want to spend the nights in clubs and than sleep throughout the day. If you are going with a family (or if you want to rest), do not go to any hotel in St.Julians, including this one.

We booked our flights and accommodation direct over the net. I read all the reviews on this page too late to cancel. This complex was in an issue of HOLIDAYS FROM HELL ON TV. I contacted the hotel and raised my concerns and they responded promptly advising me that my family and I would be well looked after!!!
The complex doesnt look to bad on arrival, ensure though if its necessary to stay here you request a pool view. The complex is located in the heart of St Julians and is surrounded by nightclubs that stay open 24hours, it gets extremely busy at weekends as the locals come to st julians. The apartments are below average, the stains on the floor when we arrived looked like they had been there for months, the cleaners are more interested in seeing what you have in your luggage then cleaning your room. I came back to our apartment on one occassion to find a maid going through my things, when I challenged her she responded by walking out of the apartment, we had 600 cigarettes stolen from our luggage the night before we were due to fly home. We booked a taxi throught the hotel to take us to the airport, for your own safety do not do this, they overcharge you. I cannot think of anywhere we ate that I could recommend as the restaurants are unhygenic, most do not have loo paper or paper towels. I did not leave the apartment without loo roll in my handbag.
Valetta is a lovely place to visit, very quaint with nice shops, be sure to bring a shawl when you visit any churches.
We paid 150 to visit GOZO for the day and it was certainly not worth the money, our guide who was maltes was ignorant and to benefit from the tour you would need to be very religious. Save your money!!Some of our relatives stayed at Hotel Juliana and said the staff there couldnt do enough to help them.
I would not recommend ST GEORGES PARK / LA VALETTE

The hotel was dirty and very noisy. I thought it was like a youth hostel and would never ever go back to Malta. The streets are filthy and of a night were full of drunken teenagers. I went with my mates who had a four year old and we didnt go out of a night as we were worried what he would see and we are no prudes by far.
Malta is probably lovely but this part was terrible and i have never been to such poor accomodation!!!

We travelled to St Julien's in October half term; extremely apprehensive after reading several negative reports. We were however very pleasantly surprised to find that the reports were totally unfounded.
We were allocated a basic, but spotlessly clean room with a pool view which was cleaned daily as were the towels changed. The food was varied, and of a high standard. Whenever we took dinner be it 6.00pm or 9.30pm there was always a good choice.
The Airtours rep was very friendly and presented the best welcome meeting I have ever attended; crammed full of information and very honest about what could be expected on the island. The hotel entertainment was basic, including bingo, singers, kareoke and a band, but there are plenty places to go in the local area and we found some excellent bars.
It is true to say the resort is noisy, but it is stated clearly in the brochure that it is a lively resort. If you want a quiet holiday choose a different resort on the island like Buggiba or St Paul's Bay. We visited these areas by using the local bus service which is very reliable and extremely cheap (if a little shaky). The hotel itself has a very useful mini-market that sells anything you could possibly want and there are two well kept pools which we swam in every day with no complaints.
We both had a great time in Malta and would definitely return.

My wife, daughter and her friend booked a bargain basement holiday self catering with first choice and we had no idea which hotel we were staying in until we arrived in Malta.
When we arrived we were met by a lady from first choice called Pam who was very helpful. She told us that we were staying at st.georges park and that we were lucky as they did not normally send people there but the service was much better than at the sister hotel next door called la vallete. she said that the man who organised the food and service was her friend and that he would look after us. how right she was!
We found out that there is a new company running the food and service this year and all the people we spoke to said that they had never seen the pools look so clean and tidy and that the food was so much better than previous years.
As we were self catering we decided to try the restaurants on site and we were so very surprised. There is a pizza restaurant at st. georges park that serves the biggest pizza that I have ever seen, enough for four hungry adults. The bars are very well organised and the staff are friendly but i must say that the man who is in charge of this new company,Alistair, is the best manager we have ever met on holiday. He was very busy but he had time for every person in the restaurant and around the pool. My wife and the two girls just fell in love with him and i could not get them to leave the hotel at night in case they missed him! all the guests were saying how much he changed the atmosphere and how helpful he was and i find it strange to admit that another man made my holiday!
the entertainment in the hotel is excellent and pam and the first choice people organised us very well. my daughter and her friend are already organising a group of girls to go to st. georges park in October and my wife and i will return there next year for sure.it is a 3 star hotel but the service is definately 5 star. Thank you first choice, thank you Alistair, thank you st. georges park.

We Have Just come back from Malta a lovely country and super people but our accomidation had a lot to be desired we started off in St Georges Park which was great if you like watching live s*x show under your balcony at night we didnt think this was appropriate for our 9 year old child the hotel staff were very unhelpful unless we were prepared to pay to be moved we were moved without paying to La Vallette that wasnt much better the housekeeping was none excisting the meals were disgusting and we paid half board but had to eat out all the time
we were lucky we found a little restaurant up the road called shapes who`s meals were excellent and their staff were first class
I would go back to Malta but I would never go to St Julians ever again and I certainly wouldnt stay at either of the two hotels again that was the general feeling of everyone who we spoke to on holiday it certainly is not for families its geared for young groups of people like students which their were a lot of both hotels need to install showers as there were none in the La Vallette and one working one in St Georges Park staff could take lessons in manners on how to treat paying guests they were more intrested in the language students that they got substadies for

Having booked last minute with Airtours we were dismayed to read some of the reports from last season on this (and another) site, but not having spent too much on the whole self catering package, we felt that it was not too much of a gamble.
When we arrived we found the receptionist to be courteous and informative but as it was after midnight we were told that the restaurants in the area were closed.
As we were very hungry we were introduced to a gentleman called Alister who was in charge of the food and entertainment in the hotel, who promptly took us to his bar and went off to the kitchen to personally make us a sandwich. This fantastic service and attention to detail was not a one off and was repeated several times over the course of the two weeks.
We even upgraded to half board as we found the food in the restaurant very wholesome, good value for money and varied.
The pools were very well kept, the entertainment in the bar of a high standard and Alister was the most caring, funny and attentive host my wife and I have ever encountered in all our years of travelling abroad.
The average standard of the room were somehow insignificant when compared to the service we encountered by the catering staff so my message to anyone reading this is to go to St. George's Park at ANY cost as the hospitality is second to none

Overall Hotel Rating:
When I first read the other reviews of St Georges I was realyy worried about what I would be going out to. However I needn't have worried as I found out. The one bedroom apartment on the sixth floor was very good nice and big with a separate bedroom and two balconies. The maids cleaned it every day and replaced the towels as well. The whole hotel complex was very clean and well maintained especially the pool area which was spotless.
We went self catering so cannot comment on the food or the entertainment which we also give a miss mostly because it was not our taste.
The area around the hotel is being developed to make a very nice pedestrian area and this will be very good when it is finished. There is not too much disturbance from the works and after all it needs to be done sometime and it is for the benefit of tourists like you and me!!!!
A short walk from the hotel there are loads of excellent eating places. I will mention but a few but I am sure the ones we did not eat in are also excellent.
A Piece Of Cake just 2 mins walk from St Georges must not be missed!! It is excellent for everything especially CAKES which are massive and gorgeous. They do light lunches and takeaway snacks so good for eating at the pool if you want.
Paparazzi in Spinola Bay 5 mins walk away (this is a very beautiful place worth a visit) the food here is excellent and very large servings too. Good for pizzas, steak, pasta or coffee and cake.
The Avenue restaurant 2 mins walk from St Georges again this is excellent and worth a visit. Good for Steak, Chicken pasta and pizza.
The average cost for a meal for two with wine is £15-£17 great value if you see the food and the portions.
Car hire is cheap £13/day and the island is very small and easy to get around. Take a trip to Gozo and see the Basillica at Victoria. You drive to Mgarr and take the ferry over to Gozo £10 return for car and 2 passengers.
Take a trip on the old Maltese buses to Valetta and Sliema it only costs 20pence and some of the buses are over 40 years old!! Well worth a trip. Get the ferry from Sliema over to Valetta and have lunch at Eddies in Republic Square. Best way to see Valetta is by foot it is hilly in places so be prepared!!!
I could go on and on but won't bore you. Seriously do not heed the old reviews and give St Georges a go. It can be noisy at night but it is a lively resort as all the brochures say!! We did not have any trouble sleeping as we were so tired after walking and swimmimg all day.

Overall Hotel Rating:
We travelled from Belfast on 9th May, 2004 on a MyTravel flight which was OK. we arrived at the hotel at about noon or so on a Sunday and things were fairly quiet.
Having read the reviews in Hols Uncovered we were a bit apprehensive but the reception etc. looked OK. The rooms however were a different matter! We were allocated two one bedroomed apartments on the seventh (of nine) floors. We had a good view of the two pools and the bay beyond. The rooms were very run down and in bad need of modernisation.
Our fridge was totally rusted away at the bottom though it did still work. The cutlery was old and would definitely need to be replaced (a small point but I was very uncomfortable eating with it). The bathroom was a bit of a nightmare in that there was no shower curtain and not even a proper shower attachment which meant that no matter how careful we were, lots of water escaped out under the bathroom door and into the living room! This was downright dangerous!
The rooms were not properly cleaned from previous occupants, we could see stains on the floor where someone had dropped lotion etc. All it would have taken was a good mop out. However, the girls who cleaned seemed to work very hard. We never saw any more than the two cleaners we had on our corridor so maybe they just couldn't spread themselves around more. We got clean towels every day if we wanted them and they came in and emptied bins and replaced toilet rolls etc.
The surrounding area seemed to be a bit packed in and on Friday and Saturday night did get very busy and noisy with lots of young Maltese coming to nearby clubs and bars. Most of them seemed to be somewhat the worse for drink already and it would have been a nightmare for anyone at the front of the hotel. We were lucky we were at the back. All in all perhaps things weren't as bad as painted in previous reports but the rooms would definitely need refurbishment and I am surprised that Airtours is offering this accommodation at the brochure price! We got a fairly cheap holiday so we didn't feel we could complain too much. There are some nice restaurants nearby, The Avenue, Bloomers Brasserie, Ginos. There's also a fairly good coffee shop just around the corner called 'A Piece of Cake'which opens 24 hours all weekend.
Last but not least! On arrival at the airport we were told that the coach could not get very close to the hotel and that patrons would have to walk through a few streets to get to it so they took our luggage separately in a van. We claimed our luggage at the airport as usual and supervised the loading of it on to the van but on arrival at the hotel one case was missing (mine naturally!). Despite exhaustive searching it never turned up. The Airtours rep (Steve) did inquire for me and said that he went out to the Airport but to no avail. The hotel receptionist (who was under no obligation to do so) 'phoned the airport for me the day after we arrived and checked with baggage control, security etc. but with no luck so I had to go to nearby Sliema to shop for clothes. (This little town is nice, no more than five minutes on the bus and has all the shops we have at home like M and S, BHS and Evans!). To add insult to injury four days after I arrived home my suitcase arrived at Belfast International Airport having spent the week at Malta airport I was told! So make sure that your luggage goes on the van and stays on the van!
The buses are cheap and very regular but a bit of a bumpy ride. We travelled to Gozo for a half day trip and this was lovely. We thought worth a half day out of our week's stay and well worth the money.
The weather was lovely when we were there (9th - 16th May)but apparently was also good back home that week.
Malta is lovely and we would go back, not in July or August and not to this hotel until it has been spruced up a bit but perhaps to another resort.

We arrived at st Georges Park really worried. After all we had read the reviews before we went. We were really pleased when we saw the room . It was spacious + clean. We had only paid £119.00 each so it pleased us. It wasnt the Hilton but it was basic + clean . The pools were very good + clean as well.
The only thing we will say is our room overlooked the nightlife which was very loud + went on to about 6am. But we just got on with it. The locals who ae about at the weekend our very young and there are hundred of them which can be quite annoying. Not many beaches they were making a manmade one in the bay when we were there. Buses are cheap but beware they are like being on a roller coaster mad experience. But a great way to see the island and the beaches they do have.
All + all it was a good experience + we would go back to MALTA again.

After reading all the reviews on St Georges Park, we were really worried about going as we had already booked the holiday.
When we got there, the hotel was nowhere near as bad as the reviews had said (they must have sorted things out since last year).
It is true about there being no shower curtains and you have to hold the shower. Also the resort is noisy, there aren't many bars around (baring in mind we went at the beginning of the season so there will probably be more open in Summer). The bars that were open were very loud but we were pretty tired at the end of the night so we managed to sleep.
However, the room was very clean and maids came in every day. Breakfast was quite bland but not really bad and evening meals were fantastic - excellent choice.
Our only gripe really was that we went half board so there were no cups in our room. We had taken a travel kettle and so asked Reception if we could have some cups and were told we couldn't, but they couldn't give us a reason why.
Places to go:
Mdina was fantastic - we got the bus there and it is the very last stop (so you don't need to worry about where to get off).
Golden Bay Beach - very small but very nice (although could do with cleaning up a bit). Again its the last stop on the bus. Also, if you get chance, go on Charlie's speedboat cruise - really good.
Sliema - nice walk along the front and lots of bars/restaurants/shops.
Valetta - really good market and shops there and some nice cafes.
If you want to do any daytrips, Captain Morgan's Above and Below cruise is really good.
Go to tourist information and you can get a bus timetable that will tell you where each bus goes and how much they cost (buses are really cheap).
After all the worrying we did about the holiday, we ended up really enjoying it. I would definitely go again and would recommend it

we unfortunately only found out about this site after we arrived home. all i can say is even these reviews here still cannot depict how bad this hotel is. if you are a single person not bothered about staying in a dirty, poor quality, sub standard hotel then this is the hotel for you as it is in the centre of all the nightlife and full of 18-30's. if you are a family then STAY AWAY.
we like many others paid to be moved to a quieter room what a waste of money as people banging on doors at all hours, your phone ringing all night so we left it off the hook all night, fireworks being let off, water bombs and bottles being thrown off the roof terrace onto guests below the list goes on. the weekend we come home about twenty people were apparently thrown out of the hotel, but many more were left.
we were half board but eat out most of the time as food was so bad. only found out the hotel does kids meals by another disgruntled guest at the end of the holiday.
we all got ear infections from the pool which you couldn't see your feet in 4 feet of water, didn't swim in the sea prior to the ear infections. the rooms are dirty, the showers still the same, bare wires etc etc.every british family and couple we spoke to WITHOUT EXCEPTION would NEVER STAY at this hotel again. so families beware.

This has got to be the worst place we have ever stayed at during our 22 years of travelling abroad.
We arrived at about 10.30 at night, i know the brochure said ";lively"; but the ";Pitsville"; area is a dive, when the coach pulled up outside we were horrified before we even got to the reception. As others have said, they scam put you in the block opposite the main complex and then charge you to move to a quieter part.
We were given a room on the 7th floor of this apartment block that resembled from the inside and out, a block of run down council flats. Once inside we found a room with brown vinyl sofas, a fridge with mould in the freezer compartment, dried blood and chewing gum on the floor and human hair in the plughole and on the floors.
You wont get any sleep as you are surrounded by 3 nightclubs and numerous pubs banging out drum and base music 'til 6am, and then the bottle lorry comes at 7am.We didn't unpack, the next morning at the welcome meeting we demanded the rep either move us to a diferent hotel and location or get us on the next flight home. Fortunately the Cosmos Rep was excellant and by that evening we were at a lovely hotel in Sliema at an extra cost of less than to be moved to another room at St George. If you have booked for next year this place is your worst nightmare, everyone we spoke to on our first night thought the place was dirty and noisy, some even had ants and cochroach infestations in their rooms.
DO NOT GO TO THIS COMPLEX OR IT'S SISTER LA VALETTE

Overall Hotel Rating:
Have just returned from a week's hoiday at the St Georges Park complex and it was the worst holiday we have ever had. We were allocated the hotel on arrival and my heart sank when we arrived in the early hour at La Valette, the hotel next door as the coach couldn't access St Georges. The noise from the bars was deafening.
The room we were allocated was at the front of the hotel on the 3rd floor overlooking the bars and was dingy, the bath was very rusty and the handheld shower didn't work, the towel rail and clothes hook were broken and there was a hole in the door where someone had punched or kicked it. There was no air conditioning and the noise was deafening. We went down to reception and asked for a quieter room to be told we would have to wait until 9.30am and it would cost us an extra £20. The new room overlooked the pool area and was marginally better.
We were staying half board and the food was disgusting, the dining room staff were not helpful and the air conditioning did not work, despite many people complaining about the heat. The food was of very poor quality and there was little variation. Most people decided to eat out after a couple of days.
The pool area looked very nice but the water was pretty murky and it was difficult to find an unbroken sunbed as the Maltese public were allowed to use the pool and arrived at 8am every day to claim their spot.
We were assured this was a 3 star hotel but we have never stayed in one this bad.
Fortunately there are several decent cafes and restaurants around. Try 'A Piece of Cake' for a decent breakfast and wonderful snacks and Gino's restaurant in Ball Street.
If you want to visit Malta DO NOT stay in either the St George's Park or La Valette hotels, they are the pits.

Overall Hotel Rating:
This was without a doubt the WORST holiday we've ever been on.
If you've got kids and are planning to go to Malta, don't whatever you do stay in the St Georges Park Apartments in St Julians.
It's filthy, noisy and a damn right disgrace that tour operators advertise it to the unwitting british holidaymaker.
When the coach arrived at the complex our hearts sank...the area was covered in litter, leering italian students were hanging from their St Georges Park balonies shouting obscenities to passers by (including my 8 year old daughter) and intimidating other guests.
Check-in was a joke. A mad free for all with at least 4 other couples in front of me complaining about disgusting rooms they'd be allocated...having watched couple after couple disappear from reception, only for their previous keys to be handed back out to the next unsuspecting person, I knew the week looked bleek.
I was given our keys to our 4th floor room, opened the door and wanted to cry.
It was horrible. Kitchen facilites were extremely dirty, the fridge didn't work, neither did the air con...Electrical fittings hanging from walls with exposed wiring. Cocroaches rife throughout.
I really think the list could go on, but if you're reading this and thinking ";It can't be that bad";..believe me the dried blood, chewing gum and human hair in plug holes (some peoples other reviews) is 100% true!
Forget about trying to sleep..it's surrounded by nightclubs, our apartment was on top of one (the brochure forgot to mention that). It was too hot not to have the windows open, too noisy to open them, so my daughter cried herself to sleep.
This place wrote the rule book on ";Holidays from Hell";.
We had no joy from the hotel staff about moving rooms, nor from the holiday rep who claimed they'd help you should you have any concerns/questions.
Don't whatever you do book to stay at this place. You'll regret it.
