Hotel Santa Maria / San Anton Reviews

We have stayed at the Hotel Santa Maria each year for the past 5 years.The Service, Food and Entertainment has always been exellent. The accommodation, Food, and facilities has in many instances been superior to Hotels with Higher Star ratings that I have stayed in. It is also re-assuring when you frequently see management taking the time to make themselves available and checking to see holiday makers are receiving the service one would expect. this is rearly seen in Hotels even in higher star rated Hotels.
Personally I would upgrade this to a 4 Star hotel. Won't hesitate to book again for next year.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks.

We had booked to go self-catering. When we got there we were allocated a bedroom with 3 beds in it, no cooking facilities and no crockery or cutlery. There was a fridge and a kettle supplied. The bedroom had thick dust on the skirtings and pelmets. The wall behind two of the beds was damp. There was a dead cockroach on the floor near one bed and it remained there for the whole 2 weeks. The bathroom was filthy. The sink, bath and loo were reasonably clean but the floor and wall tiles could have done with a good scrub. There was traces of excrement and sickness on the tiles near the toilet. The area behind the toilet was filthy and black and the toilet brush was very dirty and unhygenic.

The reception and dining room were clean and tidy and gave a good first impression.
We upgraded to half board at our own expense. We later found that others had complained about not getting self-catering and they had been upgraded to half-board free of charge.
While we were in the hotel we both came down with sickness and diarrhoea which lasted 3 days. We later found out that there was a lot of similar illness in the hotel and had been for some time.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. The only good thing was the food. The reception staff were mostly polite and helpful as were the restaurant staff. The chambermaids definately did not do a good job cleaning in the bedrooms.
We enjoyed seeing Malta and it was an experience to travel on the local buses which were very cheap.

I stayed at these hotels on an all inclusive package,i found my accomodation very clean throughout my stay. There was a variety of foods to choose from every day and i can certainly say i never went hungry. The pool area was to a high standard of cleanliness.It is only a short walking distance into the bay and the local shops. The entertainment was good in the evenings it was varied for all age groups, my daughter who is 13 was never bored.The reception area is very clean with air conditioning and the staff are very polite and helpful.

This Hotel is extremely well run, and is credit to the management for ensuring the happiness and wellfare of the guests is uppermost.The food and entertainment are first class, and the accommodation comfortable. I would recommend this Hotel to anyone visiting Malta for a holiday

Can't understand why there are so many negative ratings with this hotel! We found it very pleasent to stay in, it was clean, food was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only fault I had was the pool closed at 6pm, I think it would have been better to close at 8pm. Although it was never busy you could have a decent swim at any time. This is an older couple resort, we found the night life wasn't for the younger couples! The San Anton could do with improving the nightlife.

Apart from that the holiday was fine.

Although we won't be returning to Malta in the future, it's still a beautiful country but for the older generation!!
