Flic En Flac review
" Nice area with lots of things to do"
resort to a friend
we took a car to travel out into Flick en flack with the family. This was really necessary because the hotel was an honest included area of the case, and we felt that we needed to get out of the hotel and see the area. The friendly people at the reception told us that we could take a rented car to see a sugar cane factory nearby. this was a really cool experience, and are really recommend it to anyone. Our family was made of four people, so we rented a car which is really easy from the airport. other than the occasional sugar cane factory and beautiful mountainous landscapes, there was not much else to do. There was no night life that we saw, however we just stayed at the hotel and chilled by the pool which is an excellent way to spend two weeks in a hotel!
Overall, while flick en flack will not provide you with the bars that Benidorm or ibza well, that really appeals to the adventurous, mountaineering people who enjoy beautiful landscapes and coasts.

I have just returned from a 10 day holiday at La Pirogue with my Mum. Words really cannot describe how beautiful this hotel is. The bungalows are quite big and very clean. I couldn't believe the choice of food they had every night from bbq's on the beach to curry's and english food. The staff could not do enough for you. The beach was amazing with plenty of sun beds. The pool was stunning. We took the local bus to Port Louis which took about 40 minutes & cost about 30p each. A cab there would be about £40. If you want to do trips, go down the road to Flic en Flac and book them there as its a lot cheaper than doing it through the hotel. Again, the bus stop is right outside the hotel & costs about 20p each. They have a Spa shop & the hotle don't seem to mind you bringing food & drink in which is good.

Blue Bay review
"Very popular island destination"
resort to a friend
Mauritius is an island you go to for the fantastic hotels and beaches, not for the sightseeing. It does have some interesting tourist spots but not as many as some other tropical destinations. The flight is about 12 hours with British Airways, Air Mauritius or Emirates (via Dubai). It is possible to combine Mauritius with South Africa as a twin-centre holiday. Mauritius is ideal for a relaxing getaway with 5 star luxury.

The beach is great for snorkelling, but a fair few rocks a few metres out so not the best swimming beach unless you have something on your feet. The pool though is great - a slate-lined infinity pool, ideal for sunset watching.
There are cars to rent at the hotel - we hired one privately for the week via a friend so I don't know the costs. You can walk into Pointe aux Piments where there's a small supermarket and a few restaurants, and there are always taxi's waiting outside. Grand Baie is a short drive and has more restaurants and bars, but this isn't a hotel if you're looking for lots of nightlife - definitely one for just relaxing.

The resort was nice but not much to do. The East of Mauritius is pretty quiet & you would find yourself staying in the hotel most of the time unless you hired a car, which we did. Therefore we got out & explored the whole island. It's pretty easy driving in Mauritius & not much chance of you getting lost as it isn't that big! The good thing about th hotel was that you could walk down the beach to other hotels & have a drink there.

Breakfast is from 7 until 10am. Then the dinner is 7 until 10pm. You have also lunch at 12 until 2.30pm but we do not know what they serve, as we were Half Board. After you’re full after dinner you go to sleep and wake up not that hungry, but have to rush for the breakfast, otherwise you’ll eat in 12h time. The food was quite boring with very unusual taste combination. For example a lamb soup with coconut milk, a fish with honey lime sauce, an oily eggplant with apples as an appetiser and similar. You get a plate size of your car’s wheel with a portion size of a ping pong ball. Firs the cold appetiser, then soup (you can’t even immerse your spoon fully in it!), main dish which is usually a choice of fish, lamb/chicken/pork loin and of some vegetables lasagne, quiche or similar. After that comes the dessert, which again is as small as everything else. The service is absurdly posh and impractical. They show you the menu, where you have literally no choice and agree to what you are shown. They always ask you for drinks, because this is where they make the most money of. The cheapest bottle of wine costs £23. It goes up until you reach the idiotically overpriced bottle of red wine from 2006 for £66. The taste is these wines is as of your wines from Tesco’s for £6. Water is £2.30, sparkling, £2,60!( CO2 costs on the island dearly). The meals come to quickly and there is a general feeling of rushing you. After all these meals our stomachs were very unhappy with the tastes they got. On the last 2 days we did not touch any dinner and barely any breakfast. We couldn’t look at these meals anymore. 11days, and you had enough. Breakfast is quite scarce. English people will find it ok, you have all varieties of eggs, beans, sausages, pancakes, toasts, HP sauce, serials etc. Apart from that is only bread, honey, jams, some very boring fruits, cheese and ham. That is it! The butter is so salty that when you eat it with jam or honey, it tastes just wrong.
We’ve booked a wedding package with them, which was actually the only nice thing that happened to us. We had a after-wedding dinner, that was a full seafood platter, where we still had to pay for simple bottle of water, £2.30 of course. In the end, our transfer for the airport was for 7.30pm. But our checkout time was at 12:00. Until we paid £23, we could not stay in our rooms. Because we were already skinned we decided to out of the room. Not only did they leave me (and my 5months pregnant wife) seating on a reception couch for 7.5h but also we stopped existing for them as guests. No drinks, snacks or simple “is everything ok?” offered. Just do whatever you want. We had only access to bathroom for the whole day and our luggage. I completed their hotel complaints book and took off for the airport.
Do not want to hear from them again and warn any new guests, beware.

A lovely quiet resort with clean beaches. Friendly locals and excellent service. A small variety of excellent hotels to choose from - certainly pricey, but worth it for a real treat.
Interesting nature reserve to be explored, either by private tour or individual trikes - grfeat for nature lovers.
Sea life amazing from the shore - great for turtle watching!

We decided to explore the island one day and booked a taxi for the day - that's the cheapest way. The driver will take you wherever you want to go and will wait for you outside shops etc. we also took a jeep 'safari' which was included with our package. It was fun seeing the local wildlife. You also see the sugarcane workers who work 12 hours a day for £3 per day, so it made us realise how lucky we are. It's a long journey but well worth it.

Trou Deau Douce review
"Poverty and heaven"
resort to a friend
Mauritius is a country of contrasts. There is clearly poverty in many areas, which makes returning to a luxury hotel and enjoying good food and drink a little hard to swallow sometimes.
However, would highly recommend to anyone looking for an out of the ordinary holiday destination and flight times from UK are not too bad at 10 hours or so.

Belle Mare review
"Belle Mare Mauritius Review"
resort to a friend
The beaches are maintained very well, beautiful golden sand very close to the warm indian ocean. As said above food and drink can be expensive, but out and about elsewhere in Mauritius it is very cheap. There was an amazing amount to do in Mauritius for such a small island. There is brilliant scuba diving areas, swimming with dolphins, (although be careful who you purchase this from as it is not guarenteed to see dolphins when bought from people selling on beach) walking with lions, la vanile wildlife parks, beautiful waterfalls, valleys and gorges. Mauritius is an amsolute must see.

This hotel is like a resort in itself, it is in the middle of nowhere so I only went outside the gates once on a horse riding trip which was excellent.
