Breakfast is from 7 until 10am. Then the dinner is 7 until 10pm. You have also lunch at 12 until 2.30pm but we do not know what they serve, as we were Half Board. After you’re full after dinner you go to sleep and wake up not that hungry, but have to rush for the breakfast, otherwise you’ll eat in 12h time. The food was quite boring with very unusual taste combination. For example a lamb soup with coconut milk, a fish with honey lime sauce, an oily eggplant with apples as an appetiser and similar. You get a plate size of your car’s wheel with a portion size of a ping pong ball. Firs the cold appetiser, then soup (you can’t even immerse your spoon fully in it!), main dish which is usually a choice of fish, lamb/chicken/pork loin and of some vegetables lasagne, quiche or similar. After that comes the dessert, which again is as small as everything else. The service is absurdly posh and impractical. They show you the menu, where you have literally no choice and agree to what you are shown. They always ask you for drinks, because this is where they make the most money of. The cheapest bottle of wine costs £23. It goes up until you reach the idiotically overpriced bottle of red wine from 2006 for £66. The taste is these wines is as of your wines from Tesco’s for £6. Water is £2.30, sparkling, £2,60!( CO2 costs on the island dearly). The meals come to quickly and there is a general feeling of rushing you. After all these meals our stomachs were very unhappy with the tastes they got. On the last 2 days we did not touch any dinner and barely any breakfast. We couldn’t look at these meals anymore. 11days, and you had enough. Breakfast is quite scarce. English people will find it ok, you have all varieties of eggs, beans, sausages, pancakes, toasts, HP sauce, serials etc. Apart from that is only bread, honey, jams, some very boring fruits, cheese and ham. That is it! The butter is so salty that when you eat it with jam or honey, it tastes just wrong.

We’ve booked a wedding package with them, which was actually the only nice thing that happened to us. We had a after-wedding dinner, that was a full seafood platter, where we still had to pay for simple bottle of water, £2.30 of course. In the end, our transfer for the airport was for 7.30pm. But our checkout time was at 12:00. Until we paid £23, we could not stay in our rooms. Because we were already skinned we decided to out of the room. Not only did they leave me (and my 5months pregnant wife) seating on a reception couch for 7.5h but also we stopped existing for them as guests. No drinks, snacks or simple “is everything ok?” offered. Just do whatever you want. We had only access to bathroom for the whole day and our luggage. I completed their hotel complaints book and took off for the airport.

Do not want to hear from them again and warn any new guests, beware.

A lovely quiet resort with clean beaches. Friendly locals and excellent service. A small variety of excellent hotels to choose from - certainly pricey, but worth it for a real treat.

Interesting nature reserve to be explored, either by private tour or individual trikes - grfeat for nature lovers.

Sea life amazing from the shore - great for turtle watching!

The beaches are maintained very well, beautiful golden sand very close to the warm indian ocean. As said above food and drink can be expensive, but out and about elsewhere in Mauritius it is very cheap. There was an amazing amount to do in Mauritius for such a small island. There is brilliant scuba diving areas, swimming with dolphins, (although be careful who you purchase this from as it is not guarenteed to see dolphins when bought from people selling on beach) walking with lions, la vanile wildlife parks, beautiful waterfalls, valleys and gorges. Mauritius is an amsolute must see.

This hotel is like a resort in itself, it is in the middle of nowhere so I only went outside the gates once on a horse riding trip which was excellent.

As we were there for a wedding at legends of my niece we didnt get out much in the evening also due to the fact we were all inclusive the opertuinity to explore at night didnt arrive. but gran bay and Port Louise are worth visiting as they are local. The trips are good but the pace of life is far slower then here so becoming tired at 9.30 is not unnsuall even for my 12 year old who came with us.

A word of advice though - opt for the all inclusive package because there is nowhere to go outside of the Legends complex and the food and drink is terribly expensive to buy within the hotel if you are only half board. If you decide to go out for the day ask if the hotel limo is free (a day trip to the capital with a four hour wait was only around£2 more expensive in total than hiring a taxi (around £20).

Grand Baie review

"Grand Baie, Mauritius"

75%
of reviewers would recommend this
resort to a friend

Open quote

Plenty to do in Grand Baie, including some very good dive centres which will take you out even if you haven't dived before and give you one on one tution to get you up to speed and the wildlife beneath the surface in the area is amazing. Divers reguarly drop food for the fish whilst they are diving so when you dive you'll often find the fish will swim alongside you hoping for food.

Boat trips to the nearby islands can also be arranged, they'll paint an idea of a private beach on an uninhabited island with great food and good snorkelling. However, many companies promise the same thing and all go to the same island. On our trip we were one of about 10 boats carrying upto 20 people each turning up to this idylic beach. Fortunately, we booked on the boat Discovery which operates from the beach opposite the Coin de Mire Hotel and boasts twin 250Hp engines, this meant we arrived at the beach before everyone else in the morning and could stay later in the afternoon as we could cross the sea in between much quicker. The staff on Discovery are very friendly and would recommend the boat trip to anyone, just be aware there will be lots of other people arriving on this beach but it is beautiful anyway.

Food wise plenty of fresh fish upsursprisingly at good prices or use some of the nice hotel restraunts for luxury dining. Nightlife is relaxed with locals often just spending the evening with a bbq on the beach or in some of the small bars in Grand Baie.

Trou Deau Douce review

Trou Deau Douce is just a small town on the east coast. There is not a great deal to see or do in the town, but it is an ideal peaceful location to base yourself at in a hotel. Travel links are good with regular buses to Centre de Flacq, where you can change buses are get pretty much all over the country. There are small shops, "supermarkets", bars and restuarants in town, but it is not a 'tourist resort' as such. There are boat services from here across to the Iles aux Cerfs.

Balaclava review

Since this is the only hotel I have visited in this resort, all the comments are more or less the same. But I believe that they are very good and have a good brand recognition. That is reason I chose this resort amongst the others. Their rentals are not so expensive but the other stuff is pretty expensive. If you are looking for a cheap holiday, then this isnt definitely the place. But if you are looking for a grand holiday in a reasonable price, then this is what you should be looking for. The management is very strict on the check out and check in times, so make sure your trip is well planned. Otherwise you might end up waiting at the airport or in the hotel lobby for your room to be ready. The beaches are excellent and there are lot of activities to do inside the resort. Also they have some free beach activities like glass bottom boat, jet skiing etc. They would keep you busy throughout the stay. This is one of the best places I have ever visited.

Grand Baie review

"wonderful views"

very dissapointing. We were led to believe that grand baie was wonderful, it isnt. There is a brand new part full of expensive designer shops if you like shopping, and the view across the marina is amazing, but the rest of grand baie is quite run down. Poor selection of bars and restaurants which didnt look inviting, I dont know about nightclubs as we didnt use any, i beleive there are some though but they wernt obvious. At the back of grand baie is a newish but shabby indoor market area selling overpriced souvenirs, and a childrens play area with dodgems and small rides. There is also a hypermarket but we found this cheap and tacky. Apparantely there is an good covered bazaar in the back streets but we didnt find it! The main beachfront road in grand baie is cluttered with street sellers offering local fritters and fruit, this attracts many of the locals. Smelt delicious but we didnt taste any. there is no proper beach in grand baie just a very small stretch of sand. There is private beach further round the marina but this private to the hotel there. The beaches are at nearby perebere and mon choisy.

The resort is small and has no nightlife so to speak. There is a Supermarket 5 minutes walk from the hotel. A bus stop is just 4 mins walk and the bus will take you to Port Louis every 30 minutes for around 50 repees return. Grand bay every hour for around 40 repees return. Triolet is a village 10 minutes inland and has a good supermarket, hairdressers and cybercafe. Taxi services are allocated to a hotel so the hotel likes you to use their taxi that waits outside the main doors day and night. Settle on a price first maybe ask them to do a full day excursion of the Island as the taxi driver has good English. If you want to Rock n Rock on this holiday this is Not the resort of you.If you are adventurous and independent you will love it.
