AVOID AVOID AVOID

The hotel whilst situated on a decent coral/sand beach is in desparate need of refurbishment.

The service in both the bar areas and the restaurants was painfully slow - waits of 20-35 minutes for a drink and that was after chasing repeatedly. Often the restaurant was full meaning that you were left waiting for a table anything upto 40 minutes. The staff were not particularly friendly either.

The reception areas, bars and restaurants were all open sided meaning that birds easily entered the areas and left behind plenty of unpleasant deposits all over the place - floor, chairs, tables etc. None of the roof/rafter areas were netted off so there were several nests within the bars/restaurants themselves.

The food was for the most part was inedible with much of the ingredients being poor quality and under cooked including very bloody chicken and raw potatoes. ";Fresh"; fruit and salads were anything but and appeared to have been prepared long before meal times. Birds were also able to peck at the food guests were to eat!! None of the hot food was kept hot - it was luke warm and none of the cold food was kept chilled.

We also experienced:
* intermittent water supply - it wasn't particularly clean water either
* broken electrical items - air conditioning, hairdrier etc
* bathroom was very dated and the floor unsafe due to shiny tiles

The tour operator Cosmos used a Thrid Party Agent in the resort and the closest Cosmos representative was in KENYA !!

DO NOT GO THERE

We booked the Berjaya Le Morne on the pretext that this was a 4* resort - only a few weeks prior we were told that it had been downgraded to 3*+. This is definitely a more appropriate grading.

Highlights:

The setting is superb - there is a shallow lagoon in front of the beach where snorkelling is excellent with masses of fish. The beach is also fantastic and on our visit very quiet - no need to reserve sun loungers.

Food was not bad - the Chinese was excellent although due to extensice kitchen renovations the a la carte was not available.

Helicopter trip a must - very expensive £300 for half an hour but amazing and not to be missed.

Rooms very nice (except bathroom) and on the large side

Bad bits:

Staff very slow - there did not seem to be anyone in charge in the restaurant and jobs passed around so that we would order drinks, go to the buffet and be half way through our meal before the drinks arrived. Although staff were on the whole friendly and helpful.

Lizards in the room - and on investigation where they were coming in the discovery of some very dodgy looking wiring.

Bathroom although massive had cracked tiles and mould in areas - our bath did not look as though it had been cleaned in some time.

On the whole we did have an very relaxing and enjoyable time and you cannot disagree that this hotel is much cheaper than others on the island. Rooms all face the sea and there were beautiful sunsets. The evening entertainment was limited - seemed to be a variation of 'Sega' dancing every night -we ventured into the 'Fun Pub Club' to find two dancers dancing to 'Dirty Dancing' tunes - soon left! And the resort is very quiet. A 20 minute walk takes you to the bank and a few clothes shops. Supermarket and greater choice of shops is a taxi drive away.

On the whole great for families and for those on a budget especially the all inclusive option, but this resort is 10 years old and doesn't appear to have been updated since then. It seems that some things have just been left - eg pool is great but surrounding it are slate tiles - which are loose in areas.
