This was our honeymoon, and we thought we'd covered everything but still got a few surprises; June is Winter, and being in the Southern hemisphere the South Coast gets all the bad weather, so consequently the free watersports were only available on 2 occasions, the swimming pools were far too cold to use and the few long trousers and cardigans we took were used every night (and it was dark by 5.30!)! Added to that the weather was too unpredictable for any sea-going excursions, so we were stuck with limited entertainment or island tours.

Mercury were very good value, providing us with All Inclusive for the same price as another agent wanted for Half Board. However, many of their features in the brochure were misleading (accomodation, number of bars and restaurants) and this has been addressed with them.

The hotel itself was the biggest in the Indian Ocean, and was magnificent. I would happily recommend it for other times of the year when the lagoon is not so choppy and the semi-open bars and restaurants don't get so battered with the wind and rain. Go North of the Island for better weather! The staff were fantastic; nothing too much trouble, and even when service was a little slow they were full of apologies. Our only gripe with the hotel was that they were constantly trying to make extra money out of All Inclusive residents; most bizarre was temporarily excluding the bar showing World Cup football, so we all ordered waitress service from the main bar leaving them overworked and our poor bartender completely unemployed!!!

Your resort in Mauritius has to be chosen very carefully. Le Morne has 4 hotels and absolutely nothing else except the terrible poverty you see all over the Island. This only works if the hotel has enough entertainment and variation in food to keep you occupied, or the weather is good enough for excursions. In Winter, ours didn't.

In short, we would recommend this hotel for other times of year, but we will probably go back to shorter flights with more predictable weather next summer!

We stayed at the Indian Resort with Saga and on arrival were given a cold flannel and drink and because it was low season we were upgraded to superior accommodation. We left England in torrential rain and arrived in torrential rain. It was winter in Mauritius and it was never more that 24 degrees C. It got dark early and we had an enornmous amount of rain.

It was not the best beach we have ever been to nor was the sea the cleanest or clearest (buy jelly shoes because of stone fish which are lethal). The trips were good, the desert island trip was expensive but well worth the money - great.

The food was excellent especially the Indian although you had to pay extra. The Italian Restaurant was the worst - main course before starter.

A great holiday but if I went back would go at a warmer time of year as the sea and swimming pools were cold.
