This is the second time we have been to La Pirogue - and it is even better than our first visit on honeymoon in 1998. Overall we strongly recommend this hotel and will have no hesitation in returning. We stayed in a Standard Room this time - and it was noticeably smaller than the Superior rooms. The beach, restaurant, room service, gardens and general environment are first class - and the hotel is certainly worth its 4* rating. Not much to criticise - the mini bar was expensive, wine at dinner was expensive - thats about it really. Oh, we had a snake in our room the night before we left - room service arrived almost before I had put the phone down to remove the beast - it was not poisionous.
Having stayed in the Le Coco Beach for the first part of our honeymoon we transferred to the La Pirogue for the last few days of our holiday - we were not disappointed.

Having stayed in the Le Coco Beach for the first part of our honeymoon we transferred to the La Pirogue for the last few days of our holiday - we were not disappointed.
All rooms are in traditional thatched cottages set in the gardens - we stayed in a standard room. Accommodation was excellent but some of the items in the mini bar were not all inclusive unlike the Le Coco Beach - be careful. This was classed as a 4* Hotel and in certain ways it showed. If you have the opportunity to go to the beach barbecue- do not miss it, it was for us an experience we will never forget.
The staff as per the Le Coco Beach were first class and the room service was excellent. Unfortunately we were only there for a few days before our return to the UK and our evaluation is based on this timetable. There were occasions when in our opinion it was a little too formal but nonetheless this was after all a 4* Plus hotel and we enjoyed every minute. On the last day we had a late departure but our 'all inclusive' lasted until we left the hotel which made a big difference to the usual last day, last minute preparations - quite a plus for the hotel.
We would have no hesitation going back to La Pirogue

Sugar Beach Resort has to be one of the best places to go to in Mauritius specially to get married they make you feel so special. Yes it is a lot of money to go there but worth every penny. Sugar Beach Resort is on the West coast of the island and the Mauritians say that the west coast is the dry side of the island. Don't be put off though when it does rain as it is a very lush green island and tropical and it can rain and be quite cloudy too but still very very hot. I am a sun worshippper myself and bearing in mind we where getting married there and I can honestly say the weather although sometimes rained was exceptionally hot and it would never ever put me off going again. Cindy our wedding co ordinator was South African and she was lovely couldn't do enough for us to make our wedding special.
The hotel itself was excellent and the staff are so friendly and helpful its quite hard to get used to. The food was amazing and there was always something you could find to eat. We went all inclusive and would do the same again as it can be expensive. Before going I read an odd comment about people not understanding how the system worked regarding paying cos some things were extra - it was simple if an item didn't have a green star next to it this meant it would be extra. You sign for everything anyway so all you do is read what you are signing for. The only extras we paid for where are wedding dvd (which was excellent) and my hair and make up charges. Our photographer was also fabulous, the quality of the photos where excellent and they even put them on a disc for you to bring home and we paid a small amount for this.
All in all Sugar Beach Resort was fantastic and would recommend it to anyone even if you have children they had a kids club which we heard was excellent taking the children out and about. They told us the best months to go where May and October but I would return again in November no problem. They can get cyclones in January - February. all in all Mauritius is just like you imagine it to be - Paradise. We will return definitely in a couple of years.

The hotel is immaculate, the rooms very spacious and well looked after. We had a room overlooking the sea and was literally a stones throw away! The beach at the hotel was fairly small but not crowded, the sea was fantastic but maybe a bit chilly!
The hotel provided free watersports daily which was a real bonus unlimited too so its ideal for any active people out there.
We were married at the hotel and it was great id recommend anyone to do it its so relaxed with the hotel staff organising everything!! Our ceremony was on a jetty over the sea just before sunset, Have i won any body over yet?
The one minor bad point i would say is that breakfast and dinner are buffet service. Whilst the buffets are varied and generally high quality I was slightly dissappointed not to have table service. The 2 other resturants were very good we had a thai banquet on our wedding night which was a feast and also ate in the fish resturant too which was excellent.
We flew with air mauritius which were good flights. (Until you try and get your bags back at heathrow) baggage handlers not the airline!
This was a great holiday for us if we went again we would go earlier or later in the year march or september we did have some rain and a few no sun days but it was winter and still mid 20's.
