We have just returned from the Merville beach hotel after a loverly two weeks,
We were greeted at the hotel with a glass of wine and a quick talk on the hotel procedures then shown to our room which was pleasent enough and every thing worked ok and we had a loverly view over the indian ocean, there were a few minor problems in the room like the floor outside the bathroom felt spongy as if it was about to collapse, toilet roll holder hanging off the wall and the aircon packed up after a couple of days which I would say is a problem in that the hotel could do with a makeover as it is a bit tatty in places. The bar and restaurant is very good and all the staff do thier best to help you.The gardens around the ground are beutiful and certainly have thier fair share of maintinance. The beach outside the hotel was loverly and all the boat-house staff are so helpful and will give you lessons in every water sport which are all free. The hotel is about a ten minute walk from Grand bay but as there are no pavements it can be a bit dangerous and you would not want to walk it after dark, but the taxis are cheap and are always waiting for you.
Overall I would say the Merville was a good choice for us and with a bit of maintinance would be excellent.

Stayed all inclusive for 2 weeks from 28th Aug for our honeymoon.
We had a very warm welcome on arrival and the staff did their best to get our room ready for us although we werent due to be able to get into the room til after lunch.
We were then given a room upgrade as we were on our honeymoon which had a lovely view of the pool and the beach.
We basically had 2 weeks of pampering and relaxation.
My husband went diving twice from the hotel and said it was a fantastic experience. We both tried water skiing, snorkelling, paragliding and canoeing! We saw turtles from the glass bottom boat only a few yards from the beach.
The staff cannot do enough for you and will fetch you drinks whilst you sunbathe, they are the nicest people!
We went on the catamaran dolphin trip which was well worth it and saw plenty of dolphins.
We did go into Grand Bae one night to the Banana Bar which seemed to be the hub of activity in Grand Bae. Do keep your wits about you in the towns, some locals do pester you a bit trying to sell you things but a simple polite no thanks will do.
There is a Spa at the Hotel which is expensive (not included in all inclusive) we both treated ourselves to massages which was heavenly.
The food is absolutely brilliant and varied the wine is good quality and so are all the local spirits do not be put off trying them.
We hired a car for 2 days and went exploring, we went to a waterfall at the south of the island down a dirt track via a Sugar plantation, please please keep your wits about you, the guy running it clearly wants your money and will ask you for money to watch a guy dive into the water! We did feel a bit uneasy on a few occasions in Mauritius whilst travelling, but on the whole it was a fantastic place, wonderful hotel, staff and beach. Try and travel around the island its very diverse with lots to see. Avoid Port Louis, its noisy, dirty and very busy, with not much to look at, I would def not visit at night.
Other than that I would go back tomorrow if I could. PS weather was getting hotter everyday.
