This was my husband and I's first visit to Mauritius and to the Hotel Paul et Virginie and we were not disappointed in what we found.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the hotel staff and Manager and offered a welcoming drink. After being introduced to the staff who would be responsible for our well being for the duration of our stay,(We were staying All Inclusive and we were advised what was actually included in our package) we were then shown around the hotel complex and to our wonderfully appointed room, the sea views were amazing. Everything was well presented and extremely clean. There was a welcome platter of prepared fresh fruit which was absolutely delicious.
The room was well furnished and had a safe which we could put our valuables into with our own access code.
The bathroom was spacious with a large shower and a separate toilet and a large vanity area which was well lit. Everything you expected was there. Lovely fresh towels and our own Beach towels which were changed every day. No having to queue with tickets/tokens at a kiosk.
Dining in the main restaurant was wonderful as the tables were set with proper table linen for every meal and waiter/ess service. The staff were very friendly after you got over the initial slow pace. No-one seemed to be in any particular hurry and we were forgotten at one stage, but we were on holiday and had no time schedule to stick to, we finally got the hang of it and went with the flow. The food was very tasty and there was always something different, especially on the buffet evenings, which took on the local dishes and flavours the presentation was a show case in itself.
There was also the opportunity to dine at the Trinket Restaurant which was a fish restaurant and was open in the evenings. A very romantic setting as it was on a jetty out into the sea with a sand floor, but very elegant too! The food was delicious.
There are two lovely pools one by the restaurant bar area and one larger one in the main garden area by the accommodation, both of which are cleaned every morning by the pool maintenance staff. The gardens are well kept in all areas and the birds certainly love the abundance of greenery and palm trees throughout the complex.
The beach is extremely smalland accessible via steps. Access into the sea is not too much of a problem but some kind of shoe is advisable so that you do not step on any rogue coral, the beach is not private and the locals have access to it. There is security on the beach and on the hotel gates and they are very friendly and helpful.
There is one small shop on site selling beach wear, sun creams and bits and pieces and the odd jewellery gift, some of it very nice and good quality.
There are plenty of taxis available outside the hotel gates as their rank is nearby, but do try the local busses. They are an experience but good value for money and you can go all over the island for pennies in comparison to the taxi fares. They all have air conditioning (opening windows).
Port Louis is a good day out and a good mixture of the old colonial way of life and the local peoples way of life mixed in with the brand new Waterfront development with it's pricy Duty Free shops - lots of designer goods mixed in with the ethnic Mauritian handicrafts. China Town is worth a visit along with a tour around the markets both indoor and outdoor. The vegetable market is a must and try the local fast food hall - it's fantastic!
Pamplemousse Gardens is also a must visit along with a visit to the Sugar Museum.
There are lots of places to visit and lots of things to do so you would not get bored.
We will certainly visit this hotel again and we are impressed enough to take my daughter and her partner back with us on our next visit.

The staffs were absolutely brilliant they could not do enough for you they catered to your every need. The food was excellent. They have an extensive cocktail menu and the ones we tried were top shelf. We were on All Inclusive so did not try any of the chargeable ones. The beer was excellent and the wine was also very good.
The rooms were adequate good air-con and ceiling fan, free in room safe and free mini bar, lovely comfy beds and pillows.
The evening entertainment was OK something to suit most tastes on different nights, when it wasn't our thing we went down to the beach bar for the evening.
Out and about: A few yards down the road are a some shops. The bus stops out side the Hotel and goes to Goodlands (nearest town) Port Louis (capital) and many other destinations it costs pennies and was a FAST easy way to get all over the island.
We went on the Hotel Catamaran day it was fantastic, a brilliant Day.
A great time was had by all of us.
