just returned from a lovely trip to Mauritius.

We were able to fly from Glasgow which was a novelty for us and really made a difference to the ";holiday mood";.Also first time with 'emerates' who were by far the best airline we have used.Free drinks, good edible food, more leg room, on board cameras so you could follow the flight's progress, up to the minute films with personal seat back touch screen monitors i could go on and on. The flight was via Dubia but this only added to the adventure as you didn't need to collect baggage as this was changed for u and we just enjoyed the 2 hours in duty free. Then off to mauritius. Arrived to discover a cyclone had hit the island two days before us and that some of the trees and flowers had been damaged also the coral was broken and was washed up on shore didn't look nice. we reached our hotel 1 1/2 hours later due to roads covered in mud and flooded.

The hotel was basic, clean and the staff very friendly. Would recomend it to any one wishing a quiet relaxing stay. Food was on the whole good with set menus 5 times a week and buffet the other two. Sun loungers, parosols(if not too windy)and beach towels all provided. Like every where else its cheaper to do the tours with the locals but we went with the rep. Did the submarine dive well worth it. Also went to pammplemousses garden to see giant water lillies and ginourmous tortoises.

All in all it was a good relaxing stay and the people are nice but i don't think we would go back.

Well as people have said before a 3 star hotel with a 5 star service. If you want marble and fountains this is not for you. If you want a small personal hotel where every member of staff knows you, the food is wonderful and the service is second to none then this might be for you. Dan the resturant manager is strict with his staff and will not tolerate less then 100%. Every table is lined up to within a fraction of an inch. The cutlery is in perfect lines and each glass polished and placed correctly. Each of the 4 course meals are served to an extremly high standard. As soon as your glass is partly empty it is refilled. The waiters are charming and funny. People return again and again and as the taxi drivers said this is one of the hotels that is always full. To be honest i cant think of a negative thing to say. But if I had to be picky the entertaiment was a bit repetative. We met a great crowd who also helped to make the holiday complete, so the evenings were spent laughing and dancing.

I can not recommend this hotel enough clean and basic, no frills. But you will be treated like a million dollars.

Holiday 12th to 28th Aug 06.

First thing to say is that this is a very friendly and welcoming Island. Everyone we met were genuinely pleased to meet you.

The Silver Beach is classified as a 3 star hotel but the level of service and quality of food make this a 5 star location. The beach was clean, there were plenty of sunbeds, and free use of kayaks, pedalos, windsurfers and snorkel gear. We did find both the sea and pool cold during our visit. The weather wasn't particularly good either. We did have quite a few days which were overcast and 4 days when it rained. When the sun was shining it was nice and warm but the breeze/wind blowing off the sea did make feel a lot cooler. The restaurant staff were very attentive and service was very good. Breakfast and lunch each day was buffet and it was difficult to decide what to each as everything we tried was top quality and very tasty. The evening mea was set for 5 out of 7 days with a choice for the main meal. The restaurant was very amenable and if you didn't fancy any of the choices, they would make you something else.

We did three trips whilst we were there; A tour of the south, a tour of the north, and a tour of central Mauritus. We also took a taxi to Flac Market (500R) which is a must do trip.
We had a nice holiday and this hotel is very nice place to stay.

This Hotel is classed as a 3* but it's definately worth a 4*+.
Hotel is very clean, Rooms good size includes all you need including free mini bar. room-boy folds your towels everyday into swans or flowers.
Food is buffet twice a week and four course dinner for the rest. food is served nouveau cuisine style with a good choice and delicious, a mixture of creole, chinese and indian. A good place to eat out in the village is Tinos, I recommend the Lobster.

The Beach- Well, this is fabulous. Calm turqoise sea, really clear and lots of fish if you like snorkelling. You do need reef shoes though - Hotel shop for 175 rupees.
good trip to do is to Ile aux Cerfs from the hotel with their own speedboat, great day with BBQ on a beach, Lobster and Rum included. You leave at 9.30 so you're there before the crowds start arriving on catamarans at lunchtime.
Also you have to try the undersea walk, only cost us 800 rupees from the lads in the boathouse and worth everypenny. They do several trips that are a lot cheaper than the reps and are relly helpful. You can also get a taxi to take you around the island wherever you want. We went to Port Louis, Flacq, Grand Baie, Pamplemousses gardens in a day and it costs us about £30.

The Village is about 15-20 mins walk, and worth having a look around, the people are really friendly, although it looks very poor there is no problem. You may also like to walk the beach to the village, nice little bays with views across to Ile aux Cerfs.

This is a great little hotel not overcrowded, friendly attentive staff, we would not hesitate to go back there.

Le Tropical - Trou d'Eau Douce - Mauritius - All Inclusive First Class accommodation - Staff and Service are excellent - can't do enough for you. East Coast is a bit windy during July which is winter time.

Free boat daily to Ile Aux Cerfs provided by hotel - about 20/25 minutes journey - no wind and totally different weather, glorious sunshine, plenty of water sports to do or just laze about in the hot weather. Can be expensive to eat out - simple Cheeseburger with Chips at Ile Aux Cerfs can cost about £9. Best to take a packed lunch provided by the hotel before you set off or it can turn out to be an expensive stay. Entertainment at hotel is poor, resident band played 5 nights of the week, who were good but you soon got tired of the same old thing, one night was dancing of the local 'Sega' dance with audience participation which was good and Sundays with no entertainment at all. Mini bar in all of the rooms but a very poor selection of beverages. Hotel Rooms are cleaned daily and linen and towels also changed daily - first class! Bar in the hotel closes at 1130pm with no option of purchasing drinks after this time. It was like a morgue by mid night!

Best to hire a car and visit other places on the island or take a local taxi - the taxi driver will wait and bring you back to the hotel when you are ready. A must - is to visit La Vanille Reserve des Mascareignes in the South - this is a crocodile and Giant Turtoise park - a really good day out! Very relaxing holiday - 11 nights was just enough though!
