It is very close to the colonial city center (a few bloks from the Santo Domingo church), but it is very quiet at night. We loved it!

Outside, two swimming pools are framed by tree-lined sun terraces dotted with coconut thatch umbrellas. The pièce de résistance is the enormous thatched swim-up bar. If it’s the beach you’re after though, step out through the lush tropical gardens and in five minutes you’ll be on powdery white sands. But if you want to skip the stroll and get there even faster, a shuttle service is on hand to whisk you down. On the food front, big buffet breakfasts get the day off to a satisfying start. After that, you’re spoilt for choice. There’s a steakhouse and an Asian restaurant for evening meals, plus a beach club eatery serving Mexican specials. Not to mention more tempting buffets.

We went in to Playa del carmen on the bus from the hotel which cost us $3 ppeach way. shops were lovely, it was very hot in the centre but shops air conditioning was amazing! make sure you barter with the sellers. be aware of people trying to sell drugs this isn't too bad but they do try and shout you over if you ignore them or say no thanks and walk away its fine.

Mexico City review

"Mexico City"

100%
of reviewers would recommend this

Because of its location on a high plateau and its high elevation (over 7000 feet) Mexico City enjoys mild, pleasant weather nearly all year. It's winters, while cooler than the summers, are very mild. The temperature in winter averages in the high 60's to low 70's with the average high peaking in the summer and early fall months in the low to mid 80's.

October through May is the city's dry season, this period having very little rain, while June through September is considered the "rainy season".

The beach does have grass washed up all the time BUT as quickly as it arrives it is cleaned up. The sand is beautiful, a perfect place to relax is virtual isolation, nobody selling things no access for anyone other than at the hotels. All in all as good as it gets

The beaches outside the hotel were unfortunetly covered in seaweed which washed up daily from the reef. Special tractors were on hand to clear the debis, however, it built up progressively throughout the day. Being All inclusive means you are restricted in purchasing food and drink. On a trip to Cancun however, a visit was made to one of the eateries. Generally, the cost and value for money was as expected, appauling. A starter was approx. £8 and water £2. Nightlife was bareable on the resort. If you want the hard clubbing sence, then Cancun can offer that (taxi £80 rtn). In and around Cancun there are plenty of things to; Chichen Itza, canotes, reefs etc. Playa del Carman is better for white beaches, diving and relaxing than the busier Cancun. The Dive it Centre at the resort is highly reccommended for PADI divers - their prices are competitive and they know what they are doing!! Well worth diving on the worlds second largest reef of in the cenotes.

Riviera Maya is more an area between Playa Del Carmen and Cancun than a resort as such, the hotels are huge and have easy access of the main road, and therefore ideal for quick transfers to the airport. Playa Del Carmen has a very long shopping street known as 5th Avenue which also has bars and restaurants.

"Beautiful area"

There is loads to do in the area whether you like to relax by the beach or be out and about on days out and fun activities. The many beaches are perfect and the water is warm and clear. If you leave the beach there are several fascinating ancient mayan ruins that are worth a visit. We went to Chichen Itza which was well worth the long bus trip. Tulum was closer by and was very nice but not on the scale of Chichen Itza. There are parks more suited for adventurous people such as Xplor and Xel-Ha where you can partake in various activities like swimming with dolphins, riding through the jungle on jeeps or snorkelling with tropical fish. The shopping on 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen was decent but the workers are very pushy and it gets a little boring after a while as all the shops sell the same stuff. But plenty of places to get souveneirs, have some dinner and go for drinks. There were still lots of things that we didn't manage to do while we were there.

Didn't see much beyond the hotel really. We did an excursion to the Coba ancient Mayan ruins. The site itself was very interesting and we had a good time there. The rest of this particular excursion however was drawn out, with a poor quality lunch and a forced trip to a souvenier market. The whole trip was extremely overpriced. Riveira Maya is far away from Cancun which is where most excursions start so we opted not to do any of the more fun things as we couldn't be bothered with the 4 hour round trip on the bus. This was not an issue as our hotel was gorgeous and the beach was amazing.

Mexico was rather run-down we thought. The resort we stayed in was wonderful, but leaving the hotel to go on excursions etc you see just how run-down some parts of Mexico are. There seemed to be an awful lot of houses, shops & shacks that just didnt look like they had been finished. It spoilt the view quite abit. We spent time in the tourist areas such as cancun or playa del carmen so these parts were all done up nicely and had a good atmosphere both day and night.

It’s the entertainment package that lures you in first. And it’s not your usual run-of-the-mill stuff. Here, girls can have fun in pole and lap dancing classes, and everyone can join in with cheeky games and contests. If you’d rather not, then there’s always the likes of beach volleyball, water polo and scuba diving lessons to try your hand at. Come sundown, there’s even more to tempt you. Mondays get the week off to a flying start with the Temptation dance group. And we’re not talking ballroom dancing. The rest of the week passes by in a blur of karaoke, fancy dress casino and DJ nights.
