"Lovely resort, Paradise "
Overall Resort Rating:
The resort is lovely. The beaches are fantastic and there is so much to do. so much so, we couldn't fit it all in and are planning to go back again! Playacar is about a 15min walk away from Playa Del Carmen and its the plusher side of the resort, nice big hotels etc. To get a taxi only costs 50 pesos and in the playa centre there are loads of shops, restaurants and nitelife. Check out Senior Frogs and Coco Bongos! There is a central bus station in playa Carmen and you can get a bus to Cancun (about and hour away) for 30 pesos. We did that one day to do a jungle speedboat tour (which was cool by the way) but we were glad that we stayed in Playacar rather than Cancun which is still good but is kind of a built up concrete jungle. From Playa Caarmen you can go to a number of excurtions which are all near by like horseriding, snorkelling in the 2nd best reef in the world, Xcaret, swim with Dolphins - the list goes on!

"Playa del Carmen"
Overall Resort Rating:
Playa del Carmen is a little shut away from Mexico in general but within 30 mins walk you can be in Playa Del Carmen where there is lots of food and nightlife available if you want it. Tulum is also easily reached.

"Playa del Carmen "
Overall Resort Rating:
The resort was slightly quiet but still reasonably busy, plenty of American holidaymakers. We had a really good time, the beach is fantastic. Proper Mexican food too in abundance, perfect for us!

"Playacar"
Overall Resort Rating:
The resort was really nice. The beaches were really clean and there were lifeguards on everyone of them. The only thing we found was that to buy anything from the shops was quite expensive. 5th Avenue was really good but you do have to haggle with the prices with some places as they will overcharge you as you are a tourist.

"playa del carmen "
Overall Resort Rating:
Our visit was the explore the Mayan culture and tradition and there is so much to do whilst staying in Playa del Carmen. We spent three days visiting the Mayan ruins at Chichten Izta, Coba and Tulum. My favourite being the latter, which is the only Mayan settlement to be found on the coast amongst the Palm trees and lush vegetation. We also spent two days at the eco parks, Xel-Ha and Xcaret, where there is so much to do, including snorkeling through an underground river! Another trip was in speedboats through the lagoon and snorkeling on the reef, which I found out was the second largest after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

"not keen to visit"
Overall Resort Rating:
on arrival we were taken aback by the poverty of the town of puerta plata which the coach has to go through to reach the hotel resort, it would not make you keen to visit it at all.

"Playacar/ Playa del Carmen"
Overall Resort Rating:
Playa Car is the very small gated community where the hotels are, if you get a taxi 10-15 minutes into Playa del carmen you can shop, eat, drink in the pretty little town. There is a few touts, but they aren't pushy at all, and you can have a wander around and even take the ferry over to the neighbouring island.
Prices are very cheap, we ate out on 5th avenue (the main street in PDC) we had starters, steak and lobster and a few cocktails and including tip it came to 50dollars!

"Playa del Carmen"
Overall Resort Rating:
The resort was OK but nothing great. Just full of the standard Med tacky bars/clubs. It would probably be OK in the winter when the weather in Majorca etc is rubbish, but outside that you are better off cutting your flying time in half and going to Magaluf/Benidorm

"Great"
Overall Resort Rating:
Playacar is a very safe place to walk about in. The resort is gated at each end and very safe & secure. The crime rate is very low. Playacar is a quiet resort and it has lots of large private properties, a number of 4*+ hotel's and a couple of golf courses. We walked into Playa Del Carmen a 30 minute walk or you can get a taxi 50 mexican peso's each way which was a lovely walk.
Playa Del Carmen is a large resort and as you arrive the main area's to walk down is 5th Avenue which has the more expensive shops, then you get to the tourist shops, which sells everything. There is a couple of banks, bus station, restuarants ect. You catch the ferry to Cozemel here, it cost $12 per person each way.

playacar is ideally situated with shops close enough to all the hotels but if you want more playa del carmen is only a 50 pesos taxi journey away or a 20 - 30 minute walk away and is a straight road.

"Lovely"
Overall Resort Rating:
As we were in an all inclusive resort with plenty to do, we only ventured out to Playa Del Carmen a couple of times and found this place very nice indeed. Quite a funky area with nice shops, bars and beach. Well worth a visit and not too pricey is you haggle. A trip to one of the local cenotes is a must.

"Mexico Blue Dream"
Overall Resort Rating:
This was my first trip to Playa and my girlfriend's first trip to the Caribbean. I had read some previous reviews and I was not disappointed. I called in the morning and was snorkeling at Yal-Ku by lunch time. Our guide, Camilla, was both professional and knowledgeable. After Yal-Ku, she took us to Akumal Beach and we snorkeled with the sea turtles.
I highly recommand Mexico Blue Dream and if Camilla is available, then be sure to ask for her. You will not be disappointed with your choice.
