"Playacar"
Overall Resort Rating:
A lovely fairly quiet resort but is close to other resorts with plenty of facilities. Nice shops with a Starbucks. There are plenty of excursions on offer for all varities of activities and for all ages.

"Playa del Carmen"
Overall Resort Rating:
You can do as much or as little as you like in Playa del Carmen. Lots of restaurants and bars and the obligatory souvenir shops aswell as some more upmarket traditional Mexican products, tequilerias and Cuban cigar shops. Lively at nightime and the most famous nightclub, Coco Bongo, is highly recommended by my 19 year old son, the best night out ever! For those seeking a bit of culture the Mayan ruins at Tulum are well worth a visit and if you only make one trip out of the hotel go to XelHa, the biggest natural aquarium in the world where you can snorkel safely all day. A fantastic day out and worth arriving early to fit it all in. I also have to mention the First Choice rep, Noe, who was extremely knowledgeable and helpful without being pushy. He also helped us to solve the problem of our missing 19 year old after he had been on an exciting nightout in Playa del Caremn!

"Playacar Mexico"
Overall Resort Rating:
Playacar is a gated resort so you feel really safe wandering out of your hotel resort. The beaches are gorgeous, white sands, crystal clear pale blue ocean, great for snorkelling and relaxing under the palm trees/lying in the beach hammocks. Recommend a day trip to Xel-Ha for safe snorkelling with an amazing array of fish. Tullum is also a good trip but recommend going by taxi rather than tour operator.

"Go on the excurtions but shop arround!"
Overall Resort Rating:
The resort was all inclusive, and the drinks were all main label drinks, and not cheap and nasty stuff. Cocktails were fantastic and made the drinking and rehydrating a bit more exciting and felt that were were on holiday. Food was excellent. Staff were absolutely amazing and were always wanting to help and didn't feel like they were after tips. They did not wait around for being tipped and had to be called back to give a tip, and was very appreciative when they receive it.

"Everything you need for a good holiday"
Overall Resort Rating:
We did not venture out too much as being all inclusive it seemed to defeat the object really but playacar as a resort is a very clean place lined with lovely hotels, private houses and surrounded by an amazing golf course. There is security on exit and entry which gives you peace of mind for safety the roads are very sedate due to the speed bumps all over and the beach is amazing what more could you ask for. A short walk away in one direction is an indoor shopping mall that is air conditioned or alternative a longer walk or short taxi ride is playa del carmen that has the harbour for the ferry to cozumel, Walmart for cheaper products than the local shops, 5th avenue for a huge array of shops selling lots of lovely local goodies but dont forget to barter start at half the asking price and walk away they will soon shout you back and go lower. Silver is big with lots of shops selling that there are lots of cafes bars and restaurants and nightclubs so something for everyone. Prices are not cheap but we did not try very many due to most evenings spent within the hotel. I have no reservation in recommending this resort what I saw of cancun was very much a bigger busier faster type city with busy wide roads and long walks between everything if you prefer relaxed but still plenty at hand if you want it then carmen is the resort just take a bus trip to Cancun for a look around its only an hour away I personally feel we chose the right resort and would definately revisit.

"Playacar/Playa Del Carmen"
Overall Resort Rating:
Playa Del Carmen is a short drive from Playacar. It costs $5 or 50 pesos, so not too expensive. You can also walk which takes 40 minutes. The resort was better than what I expected, we visited several times throughout our stay. There are lots and lots of bars and restaurants which seem to be very nice, however as we were all inclusive we only had the chance to eat out once. We stayed in Cancun last year and I found it to be very Americanized, in comparison to Playa Del Carmen which we found had a more Mexican feel to it. You will get hassled by shop owners trying to get you to buy their goods, however if you politely refuse and move on they are very friendly people. Also had the opportunity to visit the beach in Playa Del Carmen, very nice beach that consits of a stretch of bars and restaurants which is nice after a day of sun! With regards to drinks, we both drank Corona the whole time we went out and it was not expensive, a bottle cost 35 pesos, which is just over £1.

"Playacar"
Overall Resort Rating:
Playa Del Carmen was lovely - a nice beachside town with good shops and transport links down the coast. It's not Cancun however so don't expect the same nightlife and amount of things going on.
A lot of the beach was swept away in a hurricane a few years back so some parts looked a little weird but they are working on claiming it back.

"Riu Yucatan"
Overall Resort Rating:
They say first impressions last. And that’s certainly the case at the Riu Yucatan. Approached through lush jungle, the hotel rises up from a narrow sweep of white sand. The low-rise hacienda-style buildings nestle in well-tended gardens. And with the sound of waves gently lapping the shore you’ll think you’ve arrived in paradise. It’s the pool area that’s the real talking point though. Flanked by tall palms and just footsteps from the beach, the terrace is a real sun trap. Set into it are two lagoon pools that come with a whirlpool bath, swim-up bars and complimentary pool towels. And a generous sprinkling of sunbeds and parasols complete this picture of relaxation. In terms of things to do, there’s lots going on at the hotel. Sea kayaking, tennis courts and snorkelling are all on the agenda – they even hold scuba lessons in the pool if you’ve never done it before. That’s not to mention the games and activities organised by the entertainment team – they run all kinds of things like aerobics, volleyball and sports competitions. There’s plenty of choice when it comes to dining, as well. There’s the main buffet, a Mexican and an Asian-themed restaurant. And there’s an à la carte steakhouse when you really want to push the boat out. The hotel itself is tastefully decorated with lots of marble-tiled flooring. All terracotta, lemon and white, the reception is reminiscent of a Spanish hacienda. And the bedrooms are predominantly gold and cream. The overall effect is cool but cosy, with plenty of space

"Playa Del Carmen"
Overall Resort Rating:
Lively resort with plenty of shops, bars and clubs. Our hotel was on the beach and wasn't bothered by noise but still close to the action. Shopkeepers are very keen to get you into their shops - a polite no thanks does the trick! Most shops sold the usually tack but I found a few that were fantastic and sold really unsual things. It's a resort that is ideal for trips out - Cancun was an hour away and most of our trips where in the other direction.

"Paradise - Hidden Gem"
Overall Resort Rating:
Shopping district of Playa Del Carmen within walking distance. If we weren't afraid that we would upset family members we would have opted to stay at Casa Ticul and cancel the wedding resort reservations we had. We used ground transportation that the hotel arranged for us and I will tell you it was the BEST

"Area investment shows"
Overall Resort Rating:
On our visit we stayed at the pool a lot so did not see all that Playacar had to offer but we did enjoy the shopping on 5th Avenue and everything is up for haggling so you can get some real unique bargains. The beach that runs paralel to 5th Avenue was a slight disappointment as it is all hotels on the beach and there are no little bars or cafes to sit in and take in the stunning views of the carribbean. The nightlife is really good fun and you felt very safe walking around - our group had 2 over 60's and they enjoyed it as well as the younger ones so there is something for all.

"Temptation Resort"
Overall Resort Rating:
It’s the entertainment package that lures you in first. And it’s not your usual run-of-the-mill stuff. Here, girls can have fun in pole and lap dancing classes, and everyone can join in with cheeky games and contests. If you’d rather not, then there’s always the likes of beach volleyball, water polo and scuba diving lessons to try your hand at. Come sundown, there’s even more to tempt you. Mondays get the week off to a flying start with the Temptation dance group. And we’re not talking ballroom dancing. The rest of the week passes by in a blur of karaoke, fancy dress casino and DJ nights.
