Having read some of the previous reviews we were a little apprehensive. We should have had more faith in the Riu chain of hotels. The Tequila is a first class hotel, nothing is too much trouble for the staff from the cleaners to the bar staff.Everyone was so friendly towards us, the Mexican people have constant smiles on their faces.
The food was excellent, you had to wander around for about 10 minutes just to see all that was on offer before choosing. The bar staff were amazing, asking you want you would like to drink next before you could reach the bottom of your glass.
The grounds were immaculate with the leaves being hoovered of the pathways constantly. You woke to the sound of beautifully coloured birds singing in the palm trees.
The Riu entertainment team were just fantastic putting so much effort and professionalism into their shows. There were also some excellent outside entertainers brought in.
My only slight critisism was that the pool area was very shaded by trees and plants so that you couldn't get the sun all day in most positions around the pool, which is bad news for a sun-worshipper like myself. However, because you had the use of the two other Riu hotels, the Yucatan and the Playacar you could walk down to their pools or even better onto the wonderful beach where you could get a nice breeze blowing off the sea - wonderful. You also didn't have to come back to your own hotel for lunch, as you are able to use their beach restaurants and bars where the food was equally as good as at the Tequila.
If there wasn't so many more wonderful places in the world to see you'd probably see us all back there next Easter!!

This holiday was booked as a late deal AOA basis, to be honest I would never dream of doing it again. Very poor quality of meals and drinks, meals infact was appalling and cold if not down early. You had the option to use other Riu hotels for facilities not to dine in which looked far better and more choice. Other hotel's had real entertainment unlike ours very tacky, not alot for kids and teenagers more going on elsewhere. My opinion you get what you pay for better to know were your going and check it out first. Very disappointing to say the least. Departure tax is actually $43 per head that's £30 and not $18 which the brochure states, so that was another £120 from our spending money. I would not class the hotel as AAAAA (what are My Travel thinking of) To sum up if I was to go back I'd certainly not go AOA again and do my homework first.
