Just returned from a 2 week stay and feel we have to comment on this resort due to lack of recent reviews available. The hotel while it may seem small and in need of some refurbishment compared to others in the area. has everything you could possibly need for a wonderful holiday. Having previously emailed the by-request Manager and requested an upgraded room (First Choice rooms are only basic) we found our allocated room to have fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, 2 comfortable double beds, quite spacious and situated in the block near the adult pool. Our room was spotless and all around the site the staff were constantly cleaning and tidying. All of the staff at the hotel, without exception, worked so hard to make our holiday enjoyable, always efficient and polite and nothing too much trouble, even an umbrella available for when it rained which it did nearly every day. The animation staff produced some of the best shows we have seen and we have seen quite a few over the years and also provided a huge amount of activities throughout the day. This hotel seemed ideal for everybody regardless of age.

Playacar shopping centre is just across the road from the main gate and you can get all essentials from there. Playa Del Carmen is a 5 U.S. dollar taxi ride and all the shops and bars you could possibly need. As far as trips are concerned we only went to C...

We stayed from 19th -26th September after spotting a late deal on the internet. We have been to the Caribbean before but not to Mexico. We were more than happy when we saw the hotel was directly on the beach and the pool overlooked the gorgeous white sand and turquoise water of the beach. No getting up early to put towels on sunbeds, there was more than enough around the pool and the beach had hundreds.

Entertainment in the hotel was all by the animation team who worked really hard in the pool doing aqua aerobics, teaching people to dance the merengue by day and putting on the show in the evening. The costumes were superb but the shows just average. Food in the buffet restaurant could have been better, very monotonous, the same things every day but having said that it was all edible and we did eat there every day. A taxi for 5 dollars took you to Playa Del Carmen which was well worth a visit in the evening (too hot by day) where you could browse the dozens of shops/stalls and watch the ferry departing for Cozumel while you downed a nice cold drink. Don't take pesos take U S dollars. We did have a storm while we were there which meant very heavy rain for a couple of hours but people still stayed in the pool playing polo or sheltered under the covered bar until it had stopped raining and the sun came out again, temperatures were in the 90's every day.

We would recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a good value basic hotel. Although we really enjoyed our stay here we loved Mexico and would definitely go back but perhaps try another hotel next time mainly because we saw some really nice hotels and the food would probably be better.

The Viva Wyndham Maya is an excellent place to go for a holiday that involves the kids and pretty much the whole family.

The advantages are that when you come out of your apartment in the morning you don't have to think about money, you have it all on your wrist. You can choose from two pools, one is th quiet one and the other is where the entertainment is. I would recommend the one with the entertainment for people who have kids as their are water sports, dancing and beach games aswell. A big bonus is that the people are all nice. If your kids aren't into that kind of pool stuff then they can also go to the kids club where Alessia, Daniella and Emma will take good care of you. Some members of the animation team to look out for are Paul(he's mental), Giulia, Jors, Michelle, Ricardo, Fernando, Jaquelinne, Alessia, Louis, Eric, Armando, Nikolas and Victor. They are all absolutely fantastic. At night time they put on absolutely fabulous shows. Victor choreographs them and they do shows such as Madonna, Cinderella, Inside the Movies, Stars, Mexican Folklore, Moulin Rouge, Grease and many, many more.

The food is absolutely excellent. In the buffet restaurant there is a wide variety of choice and if you want to try have a change then go to one of the three A La Carte restaurants, The Italian one is the one up the stairs by the pool side with a HUGE thatched roof. Portofino is the fish restaurant. It doesn't only do fish so people who don't like fish can still go. The Mexican one is back to back with the Portofino. It is also excellent. If you do however want to go to these restaurants you have to que up for a very long time and early in the morning. If you are looking for a relaxed holiday or a fun filled holiday the Viva Wyndham Maya Hotel is the place to be!

This was the holiday to top all our previous holidays! First time in Mexico and the Caribbean - it was SUPERB! The view of the ocean from our hotel room was just stunning. This hotel is excellent. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and they always have a friendly smile for everyone. They work really hard to ensure your stay is nothing short of perfect. The entertainment is brilliant, with something different and for all tastes every night.

The rooms did vary quite a bit we found out - some have fridges and mini-bars, some don't. The storage is quite limited - around 10 hangers in the wardrobe and two very shallow drawers - not a lot of room for 2 weeks worth of clothes for 2 people. - However, that's about the only downside I can think of.
The beach is stunning and spotless. Loads of watersports, sunbeds and space.

This is a fabulous hotel and resort - a visit to Chitchen Itza is a must, but be prepared - it's VERY hot and not much shade. Swimming with dolphins was excellent and a day at Xcaret Eco Park was brilliant as well. - All in all 19/10!! This is just such a top place - GO THERE!!

after advising my T.A. of the closure of the Viva Wyndhams - info obtained from playa info.com - i expected to be 1st in the que for a relocate, particulary as i advised of hotels where i was prepared to put up with ";limited inconvieniences"; - again using info gained from web sites - the fact that Tour operators were advising of Limited inconvieniences or worse would have caused some guests to cancel creating availibility .

it now turns out that Thomas Cook have not used any of the info supplied and have only just offered the Costa Real in Cancun as an alternative -which i have rejected as is not suitable for the teenagers in our party (nothing to do of an evening except get turned away from the clubs and bars for being under age)

to date Thomas Cook have not even contacted me to advise of the closure of VWM(without web sites i would not have known and wonder when would i have been advised- perhaps on the coach to resort from Cancun) but they have sent me my tickets - I believe there may be a lot of people destined for VWM on Sunday who have not yet been advised that they can not stay in Playa let alone the VWM.

i do not know whether i am unique in recieving this level of service or if Thomas Cook is unique with this level of service?

I would reccomend To anyone who has booked through TandC you best check that you will not end up in this situation.

I am already missing the best holiday that i have never had -but not as much as my son and Daves daughter for whom this was to be their last family holidays!
